An online casino runs on connected systems, not a single application. The player interface, operator platform, game services, wallet, payment integrations and operational tools coordinate to present games and keep account and wager records consistent. The exact boundaries vary: an operator may combine capabilities in one platform or connect specialist services through APIs and event streams.
What systems make up an online casino?
A useful way to understand the stack is to separate what the player sees from the services that manage accounts, games and money. These are architectural responsibilities, not a claim that every operator has a separate product for each one.
Player experience
Web and mobile interfaces present the lobby, account information and game interface. In one documented remote gaming server (RGS) design, the browser connects to the game server while the operator provides the game lobby. The client is the visible entry point; the division of responsibilities behind it depends on the system design.
Operator platform
The operator side commonly handles player accounts and identity, wallet, bonuses and responsible-gambling controls. In the documented RGS boundary, player identity, KYC, deposits, bonuses, responsible-gambling policy and the wallet belong to the operator, while the RGS has a distinct game-system role.

Game delivery and execution
Games can reach an operator through an aggregator or directly from a game provider. An RGS may manage launching a game, the round lifecycle, RNG, bet resolution and game-side records. The contract and product design determine the precise split between operator and provider.
Payments, risk and compliance
Payment service providers and payment rails connect deposits and withdrawals to the platform, while risk and compliance capabilities may be built into the platform or supplied through integrations. A payment transaction moves funds; it is not the same thing as the player’s internal wallet balance. Applicable compliance requirements depend on the market and deployment, so a general architecture description cannot establish what a particular jurisdiction requires.

Operations and data
Back-office tools, reporting, analytics, monitoring and resilient infrastructure support the service beyond the game screen. Vendor platform descriptions include reporting pipelines, monitoring and data stores; a public-company filing also identifies real-time monitoring, high availability and scalability as platform capabilities. These examples show operational concerns in the stack, not a neutral measure of how all operators perform.
What happens when a player places a wager?
The sequence below is conceptual, not a universal wire protocol. A documented RGS design provides one concrete example: the operator sends a signed session request, and the RGS makes signed bet, win or rollback calls to the operator wallet.

- A session is opened. The player enters through the operator’s interface, and the platform makes the relevant session and account information available to the game service.
- The action is evaluated. The game system accepts the player’s action and, in the cited RGS design, owns the game loop and RNG.
- The wallet and game service coordinate settlement. The wager and its result must be reflected in the account’s money state. In the cited design, the operator wallet is the source of truth for money, while the RGS owns the game loop, RNG and an audit ledger.
- Records are made available for operations. The result can feed account history, reporting and reconciliation. Which system stores each record, and how systems recover from a delayed or repeated request, depends on the implementation.
Which system is authoritative when records differ?
System ownership is a central architecture decision because it defines which record governs a balance, game result or account session. The documented RGS example establishes a particular division, but it does not define a cross-industry protocol or universal recovery rules.
| State or responsibility | Documented RGS example | Why the boundary matters |
|---|---|---|
| Player identity and wallet balance | Operator; the wallet is the source of truth for money | Determines which system’s account record governs a balance. |
| Game loop and RNG | RGS | Separates game execution from the operator’s account and wallet responsibilities. |
| Game-side audit ledger | RGS | Provides a game-side record that can be considered alongside operator records. |
| Session state and recovery behavior | Not established as a universal assignment | Must be defined for the specific integration, including how it handles retries, rollbacks and reconciliation. |
For an operator and provider, agreeing on authoritative records and the handling of retries, rollbacks, disputes and reconciliation is more useful than assuming a generic platform diagram answers those questions.

What does “real time” mean?
Here, “real time” describes systems coordinating player actions and visible results quickly enough to sustain an interactive session while keeping game and wallet state correct. It does not imply one latency target shared by every platform or game.
Vivo Gaming describes result latency of around 200 ms on its technology page. That is a vendor claim, with no year stated, and is not an independent benchmark or an industry-wide figure.

How much of the stack does the operator keep?
Integration models differ in who supplies the interface, session services, wallet and settlement. The examples below illustrate the trade-off described for live casino integrations; they are not a ranking or a claim that one model is universally preferable.
| Integration shape | What the example assigns | Architecture implication |
|---|---|---|
| Operator-led live integration | The operator keeps its UI and wallet; a provider supplies video streaming and settled results through a data feed. | The operator retains those parts of the player and money experience while integrating the provider’s feed. |
| Provider-led seamless API | The provider manages sessions, wallet and settlement. | More session and settlement responsibilities sit with the provider. |
These alternatives make ownership and trust boundaries explicit: who controls player identity, wallet state, game rules and audit records? Platform breadth is another consideration. A single platform may include player accounts, wallet, bonuses, aggregation, reporting and back office, while another deployment connects specialist services.
Quick Recap
What should be checked for a specific platform?
- Responsibility boundaries: Establish which party owns identity, session state, wallet balance, game outcome and audit records.
- Integration shape: Confirm whether games or live feeds use the operator’s existing interface and wallet or a provider-hosted session and settlement flow.
- Operational evidence: Check what monitoring, audit, reconciliation and resilience capabilities are documented for the actual deployment. Examples in vendor material and company filings do not provide a neutral comparative scorecard.
- Market fit: Confirm applicable compliance and market requirements with qualified sources for the relevant jurisdiction; the architecture examples alone do not establish legal obligations.
