Amazon’s built-in price history shows recent pricing over 30-, 90- and, where available, 365-day views. You can open it from a product page or ask Alexa for Shopping. Amazon also offers price and deal alerts; its Auto-Buy option goes further and can place an order automatically. Independent services such as Keepa and CamelCamelCamel provide their own charts and alerts, separate from Amazon’s feature.
What Amazon price history tells you
Price history gives you context for judging the price currently shown on an Amazon product page. A discount label or crossed-out price does not, by itself, tell you how the item has been priced over time. A chart can help answer questions such as whether the current price is unusually low compared with recent prices, or whether the item has been offered at similar prices before.
Amazon describes three available history periods: 30, 90 and 365 days. The shorter view is useful for recent changes; the longer view, when available, can place those changes in a wider context. None of the views establishes the lowest price an item will ever reach, predicts when it will fall, or proves that a current offer is the best one for you. Treat the chart as evidence about the period it covers, not a forecast.

Amazon reported in 2026 that more than 50 million customers had used the feature since its 2024 launch, and that the average customer checks it three times a month. Those are Amazon-reported usage figures, not independently audited measures of how often shoppers use price history or how much they save. (Amazon’s explanation of price history.)

How to open Amazon’s history
- Open the product’s detail page on Amazon and look beside the displayed price for the price-history link.
- Select that link to view the available history periods. Choose the 30-, 90- or 365-day view if it is offered for that item and market.
- Alternatively, open Alexa for Shopping from the product page and ask about the item’s recent price history. Amazon gives these example questions: “Has this item been on sale in the past 30 days?”, “What’s the price history?” and “Is this the lowest price recently?”
- Compare the chart with the live offer before deciding. Check that you are looking at the same product and a meaningfully comparable offer, then confirm the current listing and checkout price.
Amazon’s article says price history is available to customers in the U.S., UK, Canada and India. It also says 365-day insights were rolling out in the U.S., UK and India at the time of publication. These are dated availability statements, not a guarantee that every customer or product page in those countries will show every view. The page itself is the practical check for what is available to you.
How to read the chart without overreading it
Compare like with like
A history is useful only to the extent that the past and current offers refer to a comparable purchase. Check the exact item and its condition, the marketplace, and the offer being presented. A price associated with a different seller or a different version of a product may not answer whether the offer in front of you is good value. The available descriptions do not specify how every chart handles coupons, shipping, seller changes or each type of offer, so do not assume those details are included or excluded.
Use the displayed time window as a boundary
A 30-day chart answers a narrower question than a 365-day chart. A low point within the displayed period means the chart records a lower price in that window; it does not establish a record low across the item’s entire life. Likewise, the absence of a lower point in the displayed history cannot prove the price will not fall later. Make the comparison period explicit in your own decision: “lower than the past 90 days” is a more defensible conclusion than “the lowest price ever.”

Keep the chart separate from the checkout decision
History describes past pricing; the product page and checkout show the offer you can act on now. Recheck the product, seller, condition and total shown before purchase, particularly if you return to the listing after an alert or after comparing a third-party chart. A historical line is not a reservation of the earlier offer, and it does not guarantee that the displayed price remains available.
Amazon price alerts and Auto-Buy
Amazon’s October 2026 shopping guide describes several features accessed through Alexa for Shopping. They serve different purposes: one watches for a price threshold, another surfaces deals that match a stated need, and Auto-Buy can authorize a purchase rather than merely send a reminder. Read the action attached to a feature before enabling it.
Target-price notifications
You can ask Alexa for Shopping to track a target price and notify you when the item reaches it. This is useful when you already know the price at which you would consider buying. A notification is a prompt to revisit the offer; it is not itself a purchase. Check the live listing when the alert arrives, since the current offer still needs to suit your requirements.

Daily deal alerts
Amazon also describes daily alerts for a product need: you state what you are looking for, and Alexa for Shopping can provide updates when matching deals appear. This is different from tracking one exact item to a chosen price. A match should be evaluated as a new offer rather than assumed to be identical to a product or configuration you had in mind.
Auto-Buy is permission to order
Auto-Buy can be set to a chosen price. According to Amazon’s guide, when the item reaches that price the feature automatically completes the purchase using the customer’s default payment method. That makes it materially different from a price alert: it may commit you to an order without a fresh confirmation at the moment the threshold is reached. Consider whether the exact item, acceptable price and payment method are suitable for an automatic purchase before enabling it. Do not enable it if you only want a reminder to review the offer yourself.

Amazon’s feature versus independent trackers
Keepa and CamelCamelCamel are separate services, not names for Amazon’s own price-history feature. Each describes its own Amazon price charts and price-drop alerts. They can be useful when you want a separate view or alerting service, but do not assume a third-party chart and Amazon’s display use identical data definitions or cover identical offers.

Which tracker should you use?
Choose according to the task, not a blanket claim that one service is always more accurate. If you want a quick historical check while viewing an Amazon listing, try the built-in history link first. If you want an external chart or a separate price-drop alert, compare the available consumer services and verify their current functions on their own pages. If you need programmatic product or marketplace-offer data, Keepa’s API documentation is the relevant source; an API is a different use case from a shopper checking a chart.

A practical price-checking routine
- Identify the exact offer. Confirm the product, version and condition you actually intend to buy.
- Open the built-in history. Use the product-page link or ask Alexa for Shopping, then select the longest useful period that is available.
- State the comparison accurately. Note whether the current price is low relative to the 30-, 90- or 365-day view, rather than calling it an all-time low without evidence.
- Decide whether you need an alert. Set a target notification if you want to wait and make the decision yourself; distinguish this from a daily alert for matching deals.
- Review any external chart independently. If you consult Keepa or CamelCamelCamel, remember that it is that service’s chart, not Amazon’s. Compare only offers that are meaningfully alike.
- Verify before paying. Reopen the live listing and confirm the product and checkout price. If using Auto-Buy, understand that reaching the set price can trigger a purchase charged to the default payment method.
What price history cannot tell you
A chart is a record of what its source presents for a defined period, not a guarantee of future pricing or a universal measure of value. It cannot determine whether a product suits your needs, whether a different configuration is preferable, or whether waiting is worth it. A low price for an item you do not want is not a useful deal; the chart helps with the price question, while the purchase decision still depends on the exact offer.
Nor should a chart be treated as a complete accounting of final cost unless the service explicitly says what its plotted prices include. Amazon’s cited descriptions do not settle the handling of coupons, delivery costs, seller changes and every offer type. When the distinction matters, rely on the offer and total shown for your transaction, and treat chart differences as a reason to inspect rather than a definitive explanation.
Amazon frames its history feature as a way to understand recent pricing. That is useful context, but it does not independently prove that a particular current price is a bargain. A sensible conclusion is limited to the evidence: the current offer is lower or higher than the comparable prices visible in the selected history window, subject to what the chart represents.
