AI-assisted podcast production is a workflow in which software can transcribe a recording, connect edits to transcript text, and optionally process speech audio before export. It does not replace the decisions that make an episode coherent or the final listening check: creators still need to review the transcript, listen around edits, and confirm the finished file before publishing.
What AI does in a podcast workflow
AI is not one production step. It can contribute at several points between capturing a conversation and preparing a finished episode. A transcription feature turns speech into searchable text; transcript-linked editing uses that text to locate or change corresponding audio; speech enhancement processes the sound. These functions solve different problems, and a tool offering one does not necessarily offer all of them.
The basic sequence is capture, organize, edit, optionally clean up the sound, export, and publish. A creator might use one application for several stages or move recordings between tools. The practical benefit is that text can make it easier to find a passage, while automated processing can offer an additional way to handle speech audio. Neither feature establishes that the transcript is error-free, that an edit is musically or editorially sound, or that processed audio will suit every recording.

How the production process works
1. Plan the recording and choose a capture setup
Decide whether the episode is a solo recording, a remote conversation, or a recording that includes video. You can start with a phone or computer recorder; a dedicated microphone is optional, not a prerequisite. The TechRadar consumer guide cited here recommends considering a microphone but does not establish that any particular model is necessary or compare microphone performance.
For a remote guest, a recording service can capture participants over a browser or mobile device. Spotify Support describes Riverside as an option for multitrack audio or video recording. Adobe describes Podcast Studio as a way to record solo or with remote guests. Those are examples of available workflows, not required tools. Before recording, decide whether you want separate participant tracks: individual tracks can give an editor more control over each voice than a single combined recording.
2. Capture the conversation
Record the episode using the setup you chose. If the application offers separate tracks, make sure each participant is being recorded as intended; the source materials do not establish a universal setting or interface path, so check the current controls in the recording tool rather than assuming the feature is enabled.
Adobe says its Podcast Studio captures individual WAV tracks at 16-bit, 48 kHz. That specification is Adobe’s product description, not an independent quality test or a promise about every recording setup. A recorded file’s technical format also does not, by itself, establish that the conversation is clear or ready to publish.
For a guest session, keep a local backup when your setup allows it and confirm that the recording is actually being saved. This is a sensible production safeguard, not a guarantee offered by any feature described in the cited materials. If the interview matters, verify that the files are present before ending the session.

3. Transcribe and organize the recording
Automatic transcription creates a text view of spoken material. That view can make a long interview searchable: instead of relying only on memory or scrubbing through the recording, you can locate a topic, phrase, or section in the transcript. Adobe describes automatic transcription in Podcast Studio, while Spotify identifies Riverside and Descript as transcript-based editing options.
Treat the transcript as an aid, not a reliable final record. Names, specialist terms, overlapping voices, accents, and unclear speech can be rendered incorrectly. Check a passage against the audio before using its text to make an editorial decision. In particular, do not treat a transcript as proof that a speaker said a particular word if the recording is ambiguous.
4. Edit the content using the transcript and audio
With transcript-linked editing, deleting or moving text can remove or reposition the corresponding audio. This offers a text-oriented way to find and shape sections; it does not turn editing into a purely textual task. Removing a hesitation or repeated phrase may be straightforward, but deleting a sentence can also change a speaker’s meaning or make the next line sound abrupt.
Use the transcript to identify candidate edits, then listen to the affected audio in context. Check the lead-in and the transition out of every cut, not only the words selected in the transcript. Listen for clipped syllables, interrupted words, gaps that feel unnatural, and changes in meaning. For a conversation, consider whether an edit hides a relevant response or makes a reply sound disconnected from the question that prompted it.
Moving transcript text can also move audio, but the result still needs editorial judgment. Reordering speech may create a sequence that is technically editable yet confusing to a listener. Keep the episode’s intended meaning and flow as the standard for whether an edit works.

5. Decide whether to apply speech cleanup
Some tools offer processing intended to enhance speech. Adobe describes an Enhance Speech feature, and Spotify’s Riverside materials describe AI tools in the creation workflow. These are optional processing steps: the cited sources do not show that enhancement universally improves a recording or that the result will suit every voice, room, or episode.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Listen to the unprocessed and processed audio before committing to an effect. Keep the version that sounds more appropriate for the episode, rather than assuming that a feature should be used because it is available. If processing makes speech sound unnatural or creates an unwanted change, return to the original audio or adjust the processing using the controls the tool provides.
Speech cleanup is separate from content editing. It cannot decide which answers belong in the episode, whether a claim needs context, or whether a transition makes sense. Make those decisions while reviewing the material; use processing only for the sound result you can actually hear.
6. Export a deliverable and publish it
When the edit is complete, export a file in a format accepted by the destination. Spotify lists MP3, M4A, WAV, MOV, MPG, and MP4 among the supported export types for preparing content for Spotify for Creators. The list covers audio and video formats; choose according to the episode type and the destination’s current requirements. A format appearing on the list does not mean every format is appropriate for every use.
Listen to the exported file, not just the project inside the editor. Confirm that it opens, plays from beginning to end, and contains the expected material. Then upload it using the podcast host’s current publishing process. The production materials describe export and publishing at a general level; they do not establish a universal upload sequence or episode settings for every host.

What to check at each stage
| Stage | What the tool can contribute | What the creator should verify |
|---|---|---|
| Capture | Remote audio or video recording; some workflows record separate tracks. | That the session is recording, the expected participants or tracks are present, and the files have been saved. |
| Transcription | A searchable text view of the recorded speech. | Names, key terms, unclear passages, and any words used to justify an edit. |
| Content editing | Transcript text can locate and, in transcript-linked editors, remove or reposition corresponding audio. | That cuts preserve meaning, do not interrupt words, and sound natural in context. |
| Speech processing | Optional AI-based speech enhancement or other described tools. | That the processed result sounds suitable compared with the original recording. |
| Export and upload | Export to formats supported by the intended destination. | That the exported file plays correctly and meets the destination’s current requirements. |
How to choose a workflow or tool
Start with the production requirement rather than the word “AI.” If you record alone, remote guest capture may not matter. If you routinely interview people remotely, the ability to record participants separately may be more relevant. If your main bottleneck is finding material in a long conversation, transcript-based editing may help. If you need to alter speech audio, look for an enhancement option and assess the result on a real recording.
- Capture: Does the workflow support solo recording, remote guests, or both?
- Tracks: Does it provide separate participant tracks if you need to edit voices independently?
- Editing: Can you work from a transcript, and can you check the corresponding audio around a change?
- Processing: Is speech enhancement available, and can you compare its result with the original?
- Delivery: Can you export a format accepted by your intended podcast destination?
- Control: Does the workflow give you the manual audio and editorial control your production requires?
Spotify Support describes Riverside as a way to record video and audio, edit recordings, use AI tools, and publish episodes to Spotify. Spotify’s recording and editing support information also identifies transcript-based editing options including Riverside and Descript. Adobe’s documentation describes recording, transcription, editing, and enhancement capabilities in Podcast Studio. These descriptions help identify possible workflows; they do not provide a controlled comparison of price, accuracy, audio quality, or editing speed.
Spotify creation tools and changing platform details
Spotify’s support information says its own creation tools are no longer available and directs creators to Riverside for recording and editing. It also describes Riverside in connection with publishing episodes to Spotify. Because platform features and integrations can change, verify the current Spotify for Creators workflow and any integration requirements before you build a production process around them.
Do not assume that using a recording or editing product automatically publishes an episode everywhere. Exporting a file and uploading it through a host are distinct steps unless the current tools explicitly provide an integration for the destination you use. Check the present publishing instructions for your chosen host.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Publishing a transcript without checking it
An automatic transcript can contain errors, especially in difficult or overlapping speech. Review the audio for important passages, names, and statements before turning transcript text into a cut or presenting the transcript as accurate.

Trusting a text edit without listening
A transcript-linked edit can remove the corresponding audio while leaving a technically valid project. Listen across each cut to catch clipped words, unnatural gaps, or a change in what the speaker appears to mean.
Assuming enhancement is always an improvement
A processing feature is an option, not an objective verdict about a recording. Compare the result with the original and keep the version that sounds appropriate; do not apply processing simply because the tool advertises it.
Choosing a file type without checking the destination
Supported export formats vary by destination and may change. Use the host’s current requirements to select a suitable file type, then play the exported version before upload.
Planning around a discontinued feature
Spotify’s support materials state that Spotify’s own creation tools are no longer available. Platform features can change, so check the current support instructions before relying on an older workflow.
What AI-assisted production does not establish
Feature descriptions are not evidence that one service is more accurate, faster, or better sounding than another. The available source material does not provide controlled comparisons, quantified time savings, transcription accuracy scores, or independent sound-quality results. It also does not establish that AI can replace an editor’s judgment about meaning, story, or pacing.
The reliable way to use these features is to separate assistance from approval: use transcription to navigate speech, use text-linked editing to make candidate cuts, and use enhancement only when the sound result is useful. The creator remains responsible for checking what will reach the listener.
