For AL, a signage and fabrication shop owner in Selangor, Malaysia, building a self-service printing site moved routine quoting, artwork intake, payment and order tracking into one customer flow. The site did not eliminate the need for shop expertise: AL still had to supply and verify the pricing logic, and a designer remained responsible for final artwork review.
What was taking up more time than printing
AL describes a typical order beginning with a WhatsApp message: “Bang, how much for a 2×4 signboard?” Staff then had to ask about material and mounting, look up a price in a spreadsheet, and recalculate when the customer changed the dimensions. Artwork could arrive late or in a form unsuitable for production, adding more administrative work to rename, file and check it for bleed and resolution.
In AL’s account, these steps around production took longer than the printing itself. Jobs could still be produced in 1–2 days when they arrived ready to print, but that is an author-reported operating example, not a measured or independently verified service guarantee.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →What the self-service site changed
AL built Tandaku to let customers configure an order rather than start with a sales conversation. The flow presents a product, material, dimensions and quantity, then displays a price. Customers can submit artwork, pay online and track the order. The site describes uploads for AI, PDF, SVG, PNG and JPG files, with automated checks for resolution, dimensions and bleed.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The current Tandaku site presents printed boards, stickers, banners and bunting, display stands, raw materials and cutting, sign letters, and ready-made signs. Its catalog and ordering flow can change over time; they illustrate the customer-facing range available on the site, not a permanent product list.
For the shop, the intended shift was from repeatedly assembling the same quote and collecting order details by chat to having customers enter those details themselves. AL says the shop received dozens of enquiries per week; that is his account, not a verified baseline for other print businesses. The available account gives no audited before-and-after measure of staff hours, conversion, revenue or margin, so the operational change is clearer than its financial size.
Why the price calculator needed shop knowledge
The customer interface was only useful if its displayed price reflected how the shop actually makes a job. A workable quote depends on more than a product name and dimensions: material cost, usable sheet yield, machine time, finishing, and size-dependent waste or cutting complexity can all affect the result.

Those inputs were not something generated code could infer reliably. AL had to encode the business rules and warns that rounding errors near the price calculation can quietly reduce margins across many orders. His practical advice is to define the pricing rules before building the interface and test the generated implementation against real historical orders. “The domain knowledge is the moat, not the code,” he writes.
AL gives one time-specific example: an ACP signboard measuring 2 × 4 ft displayed RM 96.15 when he wrote the account. Treat that as an illustration of the site’s quote flow at that time, not a current price or a general rate. Tandaku’s live prices may differ as products and inputs change.

What automation did—and what it did not
Automated file checks can flag problems such as unsuitable resolution, dimensions or bleed before a job reaches production. They can reduce manual sorting and help route artwork, but they do not establish that a file is visually correct or ready to print in every respect. AL kept a designer’s review as the backstop; the workflow is not fully autonomous production.
This division is useful beyond print shops: automate repeatable checks with explicit rules, then retain human judgment for decisions that depend on visual quality or context. In AL’s setup, the software handled intake and preliminary checks, while a person remained accountable for the final artwork review.

The reported stack and the trade-off of building quickly
AL reports using Next.js on Vercel, Supabase for data and authentication, and HitPay for DuitNow, FPX and card payments. This is his description of the implementation, not an independent architecture or security review.
He says AI-assisted development made it feasible for him to build a broad catalog, pages organized by material, category and city, and an order tracker more quickly. The account provides no timed comparison or external validation, so it supports a personal report of faster building—not a claim that AI development will produce the same result for every shop.

The experience points to a practical division of labor: generated software can help create the interface and cover a wide catalog, but the operator must provide the real-world rules and verify code wherever mistakes can affect money or production. As AL puts it, “Treat generated code near money as untrusted.”
When this approach makes sense for another shop
A self-service flow is most relevant when many enquiries repeat the same product and pricing questions, and customers can specify a job using a stable set of options. Before building, a shop owner can map the work into distinct decisions:
- Repeated quoting: Identify which product, material, size, quantity and finishing questions recur, and whether customers can choose from clear options without a staff member interpreting every request.
- Pricing maintenance: Document material costs, yield, machine time, finishing and waste assumptions, then decide how the prices will be kept current.
- File handling: Separate objective checks—such as resolution, dimensions and bleed—from visual judgments that should remain with a designer or operator.
- Order completion: Decide whether customers should be able to pay and track orders online, and which exceptions still need direct staff attention.
- Verification: Compare calculated prices with historical jobs, including changed dimensions and edge cases, before relying on the calculator for customer quotes.
AL’s account is one shop operator’s experience rather than a controlled comparison. Its strongest lesson is not that a generated site removes operational work, but that it can shift routine work into a customer flow when the underlying business rules are explicit, tested and paired with human review where judgment still matters.
