Isiah Swopes’s 2026 case study describes a harm-reduction library built around a Python static-site generator, editable content stored in KV, and Pages Functions for dynamic behavior. Swopes reports 563 drug profiles, 61 mixing-danger guides, hotline listings for nine regions, and an identification-video library across nine languages. These are the author’s figures and implementation account, not independently audited counts or a safety review of the library’s content.
What the project is designed to solve
Swopes says the library was created for people looking for information about drug identification, dangerous combinations, and quitting timelines—questions that can lead readers to forum speculation. He gives searches such as “what does fentanyl look like” and “can you mix Xanax and alcohol” as examples. The case study says Search Console showed “huge query volume,” but provides no figures, dates, or method, so that statement cannot be treated as a measured audience statistic.
The project’s purpose is educational and overdose-prevention focused. Swopes says its public information is compiled from NIDA, DEA, EMCDDA/EUDA, WHO, and CDC. The account does not document how individual entries are sourced, reviewed, dated, or corrected; it also does not establish the accuracy of translations or clinical guidance. The architecture described here should not be read as an endorsement of that content.

The design separates a large body of mostly static pages from a smaller set of editable or interactive features. In Swopes’s account, a Python build script creates pages from data files; Pages Functions and KV supply administrative editing, metadata, translation support, and video delivery.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Component | Reported role | Implementation described by Swopes |
|---|---|---|
| Static generation | Builds the main library | A dependency-free Python script, build.py, reads data_*.py files and generates approximately 1,100 HTML pages for profiles, guides, comparisons, and data pages. |
| Editable content | Lets the author update material without rebuilding every item as a static page | A PIN-protected /admin panel uses HMAC-token authentication against a Pages Function. KV stores edits; hydrate.js overlays those edits on static pages. Items without a static page are rendered client-side, and KV content takes precedence over seed data. |
| Search metadata | Gives pages item-specific metadata | A shared _seo.js helper removes the generic shell head and injects a title, description, canonical URL, hreflang, and Open Graph tags at the edge. |
| Translation workflow | Drafts short strings for language packs | A /api/translate endpoint calls Workers AI’s @cf/meta/m2m100-1.2b model, translating 60 short strings per call; results are merged into language packs during the build. Swopes says the machine output is a draft and receives human review in the admin panel. |
| Identification videos | Stores and streams short clips with browser seeking | Clips are kept under 3 MB, stored as binary KV values, and served by a Pages Function that honors HTTP range requests. |
Why generate pages instead of relying on one dynamic shell
Static generation gives the project a way to publish many profile and guide URLs from structured source files. Swopes reports that the generated pages contain JSON-LD for MedicalWebPage, FAQPage, and BreadcrumbList, plus sitemaps with lastmod and bidirectional hreflang clusters. These are implementation details from the case study; it does not report that search engines accepted the structured data or that the metadata improved rankings.
The author’s stated reason for the edge metadata helper is to avoid dynamic pages appearing to search engines as duplicates of the homepage. The helper supplies page-specific titles, descriptions, canonical links, language alternatives, and social-preview tags. That is a description of the intended mechanism, not evidence of a particular search-engine result.

How editing works alongside generated pages
The system pairs generated HTML with a KV overlay rather than making every page depend on a live content lookup. As described, Pages Functions serve static files directly when those files exist, while hydrate.js applies admin edits from KV. When a requested item has no static counterpart, the page is rendered client-side. This arrangement gives the author both a build-time content path and an editing path, but the case study does not provide latency, availability, or failure-rate measurements.

The editor is PIN-protected and uses HMAC-token authentication through a Pages Function, according to Swopes. The account does not describe token lifetime, rate limiting, recovery controls, or a security audit, so those properties cannot be inferred from the authentication label alone.

Where machine translation fits—and where it stops
For translation, Swopes reports sending 60 short strings per request to the @cf/meta/m2m100-1.2b model through /api/translate, then merging the resulting text into language packs during the build. The author explicitly describes model output as a draft, with human review in the admin panel.
The account does not name the nine languages, identify reviewers’ qualifications, or give language-by-language quality checks. Those omissions matter for a harm-reduction library: translated wording about overdose signs or combinations can be consequential. A translation workflow is not, by itself, evidence that the published guidance is accurate or clinically safe.

Video delivery without a separate video host
The reported implementation keeps each identification clip below 3 MB, stores it as a binary KV value, and uses a Pages Function that honors HTTP range requests so a browser can seek within a clip. Swopes says this avoided adding an R2 bucket and a separate video host.
The case study does not establish current service limits, workload capacity, or suitability at larger scale. The reported choice therefore describes how this project was assembled, not a general recommendation that KV is appropriate for video delivery in every deployment.

What the free-tier claim does—and does not—show
Swopes says the project runs on Cloudflare’s free tier. The case study does not provide the deployment’s request volume, storage consumption, current plan limits, or a calculation showing how the workload fits within them. Treat “free tier” as the author’s description of this project, not a promise that the same combination of pages, edits, translations, and media will remain free or fit the limits for another site.
Operational lessons from the build
Protect the source files and generated output
Swopes reports that concurrent edits to one source file corrupted the generator and duplicated content. Recovery involved restoring a raw GitHub file and using the last known-good commit. His project-specific recommendations are to keep generated output in Git and push changes frequently, giving the project a recoverable point when a source edit breaks the build.
Account for cache behavior during updates
The author says edge caching made asset changes appear stale. The approach described is to update asset version pins and the service-worker cache after changes. For re-uploaded videos that reuse filenames, Swopes recommends max-age=3600, must-revalidate instead of a year-long immutable cache. These are lessons from this project’s cache behavior, not universal performance guarantees.

What this case study can establish
The account offers a useful architectural pattern: generate the bulk of a content library as static pages, use an editable data layer for updates, and reserve edge functions for features that need runtime behavior. It also documents concrete maintenance problems around concurrent edits and cached assets. But the reported page and content counts, free-tier operation, and implementation details remain the project author’s account; the case study supplies no independent audit, traffic or cost measurements, security review, or validation of the library’s medical content.
