Start Honkai: Star Rail with Graphics Quality set to Low, then test the same short battle or map route before changing anything else. Try a 60 FPS target only if that PC stays close to 60 during combat and camera movement; if it repeatedly drops, test 30 FPS instead. When Low is still unstable, reduce Rendering Quality, Shadow Quality, Reflection Quality, and Special Effects Quality one at a time, repeating the same test after every change.
That process is more reliable than copying a single “best” preset. Different low-end PCs can be limited by graphics memory, GPU speed, CPU load, heat, drivers, or background activity, so the useful goal is a frame-rate target the individual machine can sustain without making the image unnecessarily blurry.
Quick starting profile
Use this as a controlled starting point rather than a universal final preset:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Setting | Starting choice | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics Quality | Low | Use it as the baseline for every comparison. |
| Frame-rate target | Try 60 FPS, then 30 FPS if 60 repeatedly falls short | Judge it during the same battle, camera turns, and movement route. |
| Rendering Quality | Leave at the Low preset initially | Lower it one step only if Low still stutters; restore it if the image becomes too blurry. |
| Shadow Quality | Test after Rendering Quality | Compare smoothness and how much shadow detail you are willing to lose. |
| Reflection Quality | Test after Shadow Quality | Watch reflective floors, water, and polished surfaces for visual changes. |
| Special Effects Quality | Test after Reflection Quality | Check combat effects and busy scenes, not only an empty corridor. |
| Character and Texture Quality | Keep higher only when memory and stability allow | If the test remains stable, these can preserve character detail while heavier effects stay low. |
| V-Sync | Compare on and off for a specific problem | Keep it when it removes visible tearing without unacceptable input delay. |
There is no evidence-based FPS number that can be promised for every low-end PC. The useful result is a repeatable profile that remains stable in the scenes where your machine normally struggles.

Set a baseline before tuning
Open the in-game graphics page
- Launch Honkai: Star Rail and open the Phone Menu.
- Select Settings, then Graphics.
- Set Graphics Quality to Low.
- Begin at your monitor’s native resolution in full-screen mode, as recommended by the source guide. Do not change several other controls yet.
Starting from the Low preset gives you a known reference. If you alter resolution, effects, frame rate, and V-Sync simultaneously, you cannot tell which control solved a problem or caused a new one.
Use a repeatable test scene
Choose a short route that regularly exposes the slowdown: a particular battle, a route with frequent camera turns, or a busy area where effects appear. Perform the same actions in the same order each time. For example, start from the same location, run to the same group of enemies, rotate the camera through the same angles, and trigger the same type of combat sequence.
Keep a simple record of the frame-rate target, the one setting changed, whether movement felt steady, image clarity, visible tearing, and temperature after several minutes. The point is not to create a laboratory benchmark; it is to make each comparison fair enough that a real improvement is visible.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTest long enough to reveal degradation
A PC can appear smooth immediately after launch and slow down as it heats. Include a five-minute run in your comparison, especially if the first minute feels good but later battles stutter. If performance worsens over time, treat heat and airflow as possible causes instead of assuming another graphics slider will solve it.
Choose a frame-rate target the PC can hold
When to use 60 FPS
Try 60 FPS when the same test route stays close to 60 during combat, camera movement, and transitions. A high target that constantly oscillates can feel worse than a lower, steadier target because frequent drops are visible as uneven motion.
When to test 30 FPS
If the PC repeatedly falls below 60 in the repeatable test, select 30 FPS from the choices visible in the graphics menu and run the route again. A stable 30 FPS is a reasonable low-end target according to the guide. It reduces the amount of work the system must complete each second and can produce more consistent frame pacing than chasing an unattainable 60.
Do not use registry edits or unofficial tweaks to force a higher limit as routine advice. Compare only the frame-rate options the game actually presents, and judge the result in the scenes you play.

Evaluate consistency, not a single peak
- Smoothness: Does movement remain even when enemies, effects, and camera turns appear?
- Stability: Does the chosen target hold after several minutes, or does heat cause a later drop?
- Clarity: Is text and character detail still comfortable to read?
- Responsiveness: Does the frame-rate choice feel delayed when turning or selecting commands?
Use the target that wins these checks on your PC. A single moment at the nominal frame rate is not enough evidence that the target is sustainable.
Reduce demanding options in a controlled order
If the Low preset still stutters, change one control, repeat the identical test, and keep the change only when it improves the problem without an unacceptable visual cost. The order below follows the source guide’s stepwise method.
1. Rendering Quality
Lower Rendering Quality by one available step and retest. This can improve performance, but it is also the setting most likely to make the image noticeably soft. Inspect character outlines, menus, distant objects, and text after the change.
If the scene becomes too blurry, restore Rendering Quality and move to the next option instead of accepting an image you dislike. A lower render scale is not automatically the best trade-off for every machine.
2. Shadow Quality
With all other controls unchanged, test a lower Shadow Quality value. Compare the same area with characters and environmental shadows present. Keep it only if the frame-rate target becomes steadier or the stutter is reduced enough to matter during play.
3. Reflection Quality
Test Reflection Quality separately. Look at reflective floors, water, glass, or other shiny surfaces during the same route. The visual difference may be minor in some areas and obvious in others, so make the decision using locations you actually visit.
4. Special Effects Quality
Lower Special Effects Quality and repeat a combat sequence that produces particles, attacks, or other busy effects. An empty hallway may not reveal the cost of this setting; a real battle is a better test.

5. Character Quality and Texture Quality
The guide recommends keeping Character Quality and Texture Quality higher when the PC has enough graphics memory and the test remains stable. This can preserve character detail while you reduce effects that are more expensive for the GPU.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf raising either setting introduces hitching, texture pop-in, or instability, return it to the previous value. Graphics memory capacity varies considerably among low-end systems, so do not treat a higher texture setting as harmless merely because the frame rate looked acceptable for one minute.
6. Resolution and full-screen behavior
The baseline starts at the monitor’s native resolution in full-screen mode. Keep that reference while you tune the named quality controls first. If the game remains unstable after those tests, you can compare another resolution or display mode as a separate experiment, recording the change and its effect on clarity. Avoid changing display mode at the same time as several quality options; otherwise the comparison loses value.
How to decide whether V-Sync helps
V-Sync should be tested against a defined symptom, not enabled or disabled by habit. Keep every other setting unchanged, then perform the same camera turn with V-Sync on and off.
- Keep V-Sync on if it removes visible horizontal tearing and movement feels steadier.
- Restore the previous value if it adds noticeable input delay or does not address the problem you were trying to solve.
- Judge both versions during movement, not only while the camera is stationary.
Record the result alongside your frame-rate target. A setting that removes tearing but makes controls feel too delayed may be the wrong trade-off for your play style, even if the picture looks cleaner.
Check heat, airflow, and the active GPU
Look for heat-related slowdown
If the game starts smoothly and degrades after several minutes, stop changing graphics options and inspect cooling first. Check whether vents are blocked by dust, fabric, a wall, or another object. Clear the obstruction and repeat the same five-minute test. This does not prove that heat is the cause, but the timing is a useful clue.
Confirm which GPU is actually running the game
- Start Honkai: Star Rail and leave it running.
- Open Windows Task Manager.
- Use the performance information to identify the GPU handling the game while it is active.
- If the system has more than one graphics processor, confirm that the game is not using an unexpected integrated or low-power adapter.
The active-GPU check matters because changing settings for a more powerful adapter will not help if the game is actually running on another one.

Update an outdated graphics driver
HoYoverse’s support guidance says to update the graphics-card driver to the latest version. Obtain the current driver from the GPU manufacturer, install it according to the manufacturer’s instructions, restart Windows if requested, and repeat the same in-game test. A driver update is a troubleshooting step, not evidence that a new graphics card is required.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to do when the game crashes or freezes
Persistent crashes and freezes need a different path from ordinary low frame rates. Use the official support sequence rather than repeatedly lowering every slider.

- Update the active GPU driver.
- Check the published minimum requirements for the relevant game version and compare them with the actual PC.
- If the issue continues, contact HoYoverse Support with the device details and evidence requested in its crash article.
- Provide the log and dump files from the locations identified by that support article. Do not guess at alternate paths or delete those files before support can inspect them.
A crash is not necessarily a graphics-quality problem. Resource verification, an outdated driver, an unsupported configuration, heat, or another software conflict can produce similar symptoms.
Understand the published PC requirements carefully
HoYoverse’s PC Version Launcher FAQ, dated April 23, 2023, lists the following configurations:
| Category | CPU | Memory | Graphics | Operating system | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum configuration listed in the April 23, 2023 FAQ | Intel Core i3 | 6 GB RAM | Discrete Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 or higher | Windows 7 64-bit or higher | At least 20 GB reserved storage |
| Recommended configuration listed in the April 23, 2023 FAQ | Intel Core i7 | 8 GB RAM | Discrete Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or higher | Windows 10 64-bit or higher | At least 20 GB storage |
These are historical figures from that 2023 launcher FAQ, not verified current-version requirements. They should not be used to promise that a particular PC will run the current game, nor should the storage figure be interpreted as a guarantee that future updates will fit the same space. Check the requirements and support information for the version you are installing.
DLSS 2 is not a low-end recommendation
HoYoverse’s Version 3.0 “Paean of Era Nova” announcement, dated January 15, 2025, says that PC players with Nvidia RTX 20-series graphics cards and above can enable the added DLSS 2 function in Graphics Settings. That announcement documents feature availability for qualifying RTX hardware; it does not establish that buying an RTX card is necessary or cost-effective for a low-end-PC settings problem.
For a machine that already has compatible hardware, DLSS can be evaluated as another in-game option. For a reader seeking the safest first steps, the evidence-supported sequence remains Low preset, repeatable testing, one-setting changes, heat checks, and driver troubleshooting.
Diagnose the symptom instead of lowering everything
The game is consistently slow from the first minute
- Confirm the active GPU in Task Manager.
- Start from Graphics Quality: Low and test 30 FPS if 60 repeatedly fails.
- Reduce Rendering Quality by one step, then test shadows, reflections, and special effects individually.
- Check whether the PC matches the published requirements for the installed version; the 2023 figures above are historical only.
The game starts well and slows down later
- Run the five-minute repeatable test.
- Inspect vents and airflow for blockage.
- Check whether the active GPU driver is outdated and update it.
- Retest before making additional image-quality sacrifices.
The picture tears during camera movement
- Compare the same camera turn with V-Sync on and off.
- Keep the value that removes tearing without unacceptable delay.
- Do not change the frame-rate target or quality preset during this comparison.
The image is too blurry after tuning
- Restore Rendering Quality first.
- Test Shadow Quality, Reflection Quality, and Special Effects Quality separately instead.
- Keep Character Quality and Texture Quality higher only if the PC has enough graphics memory and remains stable.
The game freezes or closes
- Use the login-screen Update option to re-verify resources.
- Update the GPU driver and check requirements.
- Escalate to HoYoverse Support with the requested device information, evidence, logs, and dump files.
A practical tuning checklist
- Open Phone Menu > Settings > Graphics.
- Set Graphics Quality to Low.
- Keep the initial test at native monitor resolution and full-screen.
- Choose one battle or map route that regularly stutters.
- Try 60 FPS and observe combat, camera movement, and several minutes of play.
- If 60 repeatedly falls short, test 30 FPS.
- If Low remains unstable, lower Rendering Quality one step and repeat the same route.
- If the image is too blurry, restore Rendering Quality and test Shadow Quality instead.
- Continue with Reflection Quality and Special Effects Quality, one at a time.
- Raise Character Quality or Texture Quality only when graphics memory and stability permit.
- Compare V-Sync on and off only for tearing or input-delay symptoms.
- Check heat, vents, and the active GPU if performance changes over time.
- Update an outdated graphics driver.
- For crashes or freezes, re-verify resources from the login screen and follow the official support escalation steps.
Common tuning mistakes
- Changing everything at once: You lose the ability to identify the setting that helped.
- Chasing 60 FPS despite repeated drops: A fluctuating target can feel less consistent than 30 FPS.
- Lowering Rendering Quality automatically: It may solve performance problems at the cost of excessive blur; test other options before accepting that trade-off.
- Testing only an empty area: Combat effects and camera movement can expose problems that a quiet corridor hides.
- Ignoring heat: A five-minute decline points toward a thermal or airflow check, not just another preset change.
- Assuming old requirements are current: The April 2023 numbers are historical and cannot guarantee current-version compatibility.
- Buying hardware before diagnosing: The available evidence supports settings and troubleshooting steps, not a universal GPU, RAM, cooling-pad, SSD, or replacement-PC recommendation.
What this method can and cannot promise
This workflow can give you a defensible way to find the best compromise on one PC: a measured frame-rate target, known image-quality trade-offs, and a record of whether heat, tearing, or drivers affect the result. It cannot promise a specific FPS improvement, because the available guidance does not report controlled benchmark gains and does not establish one profile for every low-end system.
Use the profile that remains smooth in your own repeatable scene, preserves enough clarity to play comfortably, and stays stable after several minutes. Recheck it after a major game update or driver change rather than assuming an old comparison remains valid.
