The Honda HRU19K1 Buffalo Buck is a discontinued Australian 19-inch-class petrol push mower. Its manual lists a 470 mm cut, 60 L catcher and 16–75 mm height range, while owner feedback is mixed rather than proof of uniform reliability. If you are considering one used, assess the individual mower, verify blade and parts compatibility, and confirm whether any warranty applies to its original purchase.
What the HRU19K1 is—and what it is not
The HRU19K1 is a legacy Buffalo Buck model, not the current Honda HRU19. Honda’s archived brochure identifies the K1’s engine as a GCV160 four-stroke and describes it as a push mower intended for domestic use. The specifications for the newer HRU19 belong to a different generation and should not be substituted when assessing a K1.
The K1 brochure describes an engine-brake system that Honda says stops the engine and blades within three seconds after the operator releases the handle. This is a manufacturer feature claim, not an independent test result. Honda’s archived HRU19K1 brochure provides the model-era description.

Honda’s owner manual lists the following K1 figures; the accessible manual listing does not establish a publication date.

Comments are mixed: some owners describe continued reliable starting and positive long-term use, while other feedback includes a complaint about the choke setup. Review titles such as “Good work horse,” “Worst choke set up,” and “Great Build Quality & Faultless Operation” represent individual users’ wording, not independently established product characteristics. The sample does not support a claim that every mower starts reliably, that choke problems are widespread, or that the K1 outperforms competing models. Read the HRU19K1 owner reviews as anecdotes, not a substitute for checking the particular mower.

- Confirm identity: Check the model marking and documentation so you are assessing an HRU19K1 rather than another HRU19 generation.
- Check service history and condition: Ask what maintenance has been done and look for evidence of care, damage or missing components. A review rating cannot establish the condition of an individual unit.
- Inspect the catcher: Look for tears, damaged fittings and secure attachment. Its documented capacity is 60 L, but wear can affect practical use.
- Check height adjustment and blade fit: Confirm the height mechanism operates through its settings and that the fitted blade is correct for the model. Honda lists incorrect height settings or the wrong blade among possible causes of poor cutting or mowing and bagging performance.
- Ask about parts and servicing: Check local availability with Honda or a qualified dealer before purchase, especially for model-specific or safety-critical parts.
- Clarify warranty eligibility: Do not assume the brochure-era warranty transfers to a second owner or remains valid. Confirm the original purchase date, proof of purchase, use type and applicable Honda terms.
Parts, cutting problems and maintenance
If cut quality or bagging is poor, Honda’s HRU19K1 troubleshooting guidance identifies incorrect cutting-height settings and an incorrect blade as possible causes. Check those setup points before assuming the mower has a mechanical fault. The guidance does not establish that either issue is the cause in any particular mower.
For a replacement, a useful model-specific search phrase is “Honda HRU19K1 mower blades.” A search result alone does not confirm fitment: verify the exact mower model and blade compatibility with Honda or a qualified dealer before buying. No particular retail listing or aftermarket blade is established here. For operating, storage and maintenance procedures, consult the Honda HRU19K1 troubleshooting page and the applicable owner manual. Refer uncertain or safety-critical servicing to Honda or an authorised dealer rather than relying on unverified repair instructions.

How it differs from the current HRU19
Honda’s Australian current HRU19 page positions that model for medium residential lawns. Its published specifications differ from the K1 manual in several important ways:

When comparing a used K1 with a current mower, weigh the older unit’s actual condition, service history, catcher state, height range, blade condition and fit, parts access, and any confirmed warranty eligibility against the newer model’s specifications. The documented figures alone do not establish which is the better buy.
Warranty and availability in Australia
The archived K1 brochure stated a four-year domestic warranty for its brochure-era product. That statement does not confirm coverage for a used mower today. Honda’s current Australian warranty page applies to purchases from 1 September 2025 and lists newer HRU19M2 products; its separate page covers purchases before 31 August 2025. Neither table establishes present HRU19K1 coverage. Ask Honda or a dealer to assess the original purchase date, proof of purchase, private or commercial use, geographic eligibility and applicable terms.
