The seven systems named in Matthew Lynch’s August 5, 2026, article are Tesla Powerwall 3, Enphase IQ Battery 5P, LG Chem Prime, Generac PWRcell, SolarEdge Energy Bank, FranklinWH Franklin Home Power (FHP), and Sungrow SBR Series. That is the article’s list, not a verified current ranking or evidence that millions of U.S. homeowners are installing them. U.S. battery storage is growing quickly at grid scale, but grid capacity figures do not establish household adoption.

What the seven-product list actually represents

The list comes from Matthew Lynch’s article in The Tech Edvocate, published August 5, 2026. The article makes favorable claims about reliability, integration, modularity, monitoring, scalability, and backup. Those are the article’s characterizations, not independently verified comparisons of the seven systems. The available official sources do not establish current availability for each product line or whether each is offered in every market. Read the source article.

Does the evidence show that millions of homeowners are installing batteries?

No household installation count is established by the cited figures. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported 43.6 gigawatts (GW) of operational battery storage capacity at the end of 2025. It also reported that 8.3 GW was added in the first six months of 2026, bringing U.S. nameplate battery storage capacity to nearly 52 GW. These are power-system capacity figures, not counts of home batteries; they cannot be converted into a homeowner total using the available evidence. EIA’s August 7, 2026, report.

Other EIA figures need the same distinction. In February 2026, developers planned 86 GW of new utility-scale generation capacity for that year, with solar accounting for 51% and battery storage for 28% of planned additions. Those were plans, not completed installations. In February 2025, EIA forecast 18.2 GW of utility-scale battery storage additions during 2025; that was a forecast published before the year ended, not a final actual. Neither figure measures residential adoption.

These data support a narrower conclusion: U.S. grid-scale battery capacity has expanded rapidly. They do not verify the headline’s claim about millions of homeowners or prove that homeowners are rushing to buy these seven products. EIA’s 2026 capacity plans and EIA’s 2025 forecast.

What a home battery does—and what it cannot promise

A battery stores electricity generated elsewhere so it can be used later; storage is not itself a primary source of electricity. In a solar-equipped home, a battery may store surplus solar generation for later household use. Whether that helps during an outage, reduces a bill, or provides a particular amount of backup depends on the system design and local electricity arrangements. The available evidence does not establish household savings, outage duration, or results for the seven named models.

EF ECOFLOW 12kWh Power Station: DELTA Pro Ultra with Extra Battery
  • One Powers All. The unit of DELTA Pro Ultra whole house generator includes an inverter and a battery. One inverter supports 120V & 240V and has an exceptional 7200W output, allowing you to run almost any heavy household appliance, even a 3-ton central air conditioner. Triple the inverters for an incredible 21.6kW AC output, allowing you to live life to the fullest even during an outage. The electric generator achieves a total 7200W output even during charging.
  • Strong Power Security. Scalable from one battery of 6144Wh, two days of essential power, all the way to 15, it multiplies the energy to a gigantic 90kWh. For a standard North American household, that's over 30 days of essential power secured.
  • Customize Your Home Power. Use the EcoFlow app to priolritize specific circuits in your home, extending your backup even longer. For more than just blackouts, it intelligently analyses your home power usage to offset peak rates while utilizing solar to lower energy bills.
  • Multi Ways to Charge. One battery of 6144Wh can be fully recharged in 2 hours. Faster than any other 6kWh solar generator. Users can choose among electric vehicle piles, solar, wall outlets or outdoor generators for charging.
  • Uninterrupted Life. Online UPS with 0-ms transfer time, offering 24/7 protection for sensitive electrical devices against power disturbances or grid failure. All fans are off for the first half hour of outputting 2000W, giving you absolute silence for tranquility in everyday life.

For example, a battery’s stored energy and its ability to supply power are different measures. A system might have enough stored energy for a period of use but be unable to run every appliance at once. Backup also depends on transfer equipment, which circuits are connected, and how the system is configured. Ask for those details in the proposed design rather than assuming that “home backup” means the whole home stays powered.

How to compare options for your home

Ask installers to quote the same use case and explain their assumptions. DOE’s Federal Energy Management Program offers a customizable lithium-ion battery storage procurement specification and a linked system evaluation method. It is intended for federal agencies, not a consumer product comparison, but it illustrates the value of defining requirements before evaluating systems. DOE’s lithium-ion battery storage specifications.

Capacity and output

Compare usable energy capacity in kilowatt-hours (kWh) with power output in kilowatts (kW). Capacity describes how much energy the quoted configuration can store and make available; power describes how much load it can supply at one time, including short-duration peaks. Request the figures for the exact proposed configuration and ask which loads it can support.

Backup scope and equipment

Find out whether the design backs up the whole home or selected circuits, what transfer equipment is included, and which loads are excluded. Ask the installer to explain how the system behaves when the grid fails and what happens when the battery’s available energy is depleted.

Compatibility and expansion

Confirm compatibility with your existing solar inverter, electrical panel, planned solar configuration, and any generator integration. If you might expand the system, ask what additional equipment or installation work would be required. A product’s general ability to integrate or scale does not establish that it will work with your particular home.

Warranty and local service

Review the written warranty, its capacity terms, the installer’s responsibilities, and who handles service in your location. Ask how support works if the installer is no longer available. Do not rely on a broad reliability claim in a product roundup as a substitute for the applicable warranty and service terms.

Installed cost and household economics

Compare the full installed quote, not just equipment cost. What to take away from the headline

The seven names identify products discussed by one article, while the EIA numbers describe a growing U.S. power-system storage fleet. They answer different questions. Treat the list as a set of leads to verify, and choose a system only after a local assessment confirms its current availability, compatibility, backup design, warranty, service, and installed economics.
