The fastest reliable way to advance in Hollywood Merge is to make each energy spend serve a visible character request, preserve rubies for a genuine bottleneck, complete weekly tasks during normal play, and keep only useful items on the board. This guide explains that loop, how to recover energy, and how to avoid the clutter and resource mistakes that slow new players down.
What you are trying to optimize
Hollywood Merge combines a merge board with character requests, quests, episodes and rotating events. Your practical objective is not to create the highest-level item at random; it is to turn limited actions into progress that the game is currently asking for. A good turn usually does at least one of four things:
- Advances an item shown in a character request.
- Completes a quest and moves you toward coins for level progression.
- Counts toward a weekly task and its reward.
- Improves board space by combining items that would otherwise occupy separate slots.
That priority answers the beginner question, “But how can you advance easily?” Start with the requests above the board, spend energy on the relevant chain, and avoid producing items merely because a generator is available.

Energy is the action budget
As Cristina Mesesan explains in the Pocket Gamer beginner guide, “Energy is what allows you to add more mergeable items to your board.” In practical terms, energy is spent to produce the pieces you will combine. Merging itself is useful only when the resulting pieces support a request, quest or another immediate objective.

Energy replenishes over time. The guide also identifies two recovery routes: popping energy bubbles and merging energy bottles. Use those sources before considering any premium shortcut. The available evidence does not establish a universal regeneration rate, maximum energy cap or fixed cost for every generator, so do not plan around an assumed timer or a number copied from another version.
Requests tell you which chain matters
Character requests appear above the board. Read them before spending energy and identify the item family each request requires. Some characters ask for more than one item. When one requested item is fulfilled, the game marks it with a green check, making it easier to see which part of a multi-item request remains.
Do not stop after creating the first checked item if another request is still open. Keep the unchecked requirement visible while you decide whether to produce another chain or wait for energy. This simple check prevents a common waste: filling the board with attractive but irrelevant pieces while the actual request remains unfinished.
Quests turn requests into progression
Completing quests is presented as one route to earn coins for level progression. Coins and merge outcomes therefore reinforce one another: requests identify the work, and completed quests provide progression currency. Before making a merge, ask whether it advances a displayed request or quest. If the answer is no, delay it unless the merge is needed to reclaim board space.
A repeatable beginner routine
- Inspect the request panel. Note every requested item and look for a green check beside requirements you have already delivered.
- Choose one active chain. Prefer the chain that completes a request soonest or clears the most board space. If a character has multiple requests, identify the remaining unchecked one.
- Spend available energy deliberately. Add only the mergeable items needed for that chain. Stop when the next production would create pieces with no near-term use.
- Merge immediately when it helps. Combine matching pieces when the result advances the request or consolidates several occupied slots.
- Deliver completed items. Turn in the requested item and confirm the green check or quest completion rather than assuming the game registered it.
- Collect the resulting progress. Claim coins or other visible rewards, then inspect the request panel again before your next energy spend.
- Check weekly tasks. If a task asks for merges or another small action you are already performing, let normal request work count toward it.
- Reorganize the board. Remove or combine items that no longer support an active request, while keeping a short-term reserve for the next likely merge.
This loop is more dependable than emptying all available energy in one burst. It also leaves you with a clear decision when energy runs out: wait for the refill, look for an energy bubble or merge energy bottles, and resume the same request-led plan.
Managing energy without an invented formula
Spend now or wait?
Spending energy immediately can finish a request sooner, but it can also create clutter if the needed chain is not clear. Waiting preserves the ability to respond to a newly visible request after the board changes. Neither choice is universally superior; use the request panel and available board space as your decision test.

| Choice | Useful when | Main risk |
|---|---|---|
| Spend energy now | A visible request needs the pieces and you have room to hold the chain. | You may fill slots with items that do not complete anything. |
| Wait for natural refill | No current request can use the next items or the board is crowded. | Progress pauses while energy accumulates. |
| Pop energy bubbles | A bubble is available and the resulting energy can be used on an active chain. | Taking it without a plan can encourage unnecessary production. |
| Merge energy bottles | You have bottles that can be combined into a useful recovery item. | Holding too many bottles consumes slots needed for request items. |
What the guide does not establish
There is no supported universal number for energy regeneration, storage limits, generator costs or the exact value of an energy bottle. Treat those values as version- or event-dependent if they appear in your own game. A schedule such as “spend exactly X energy every Y minutes” would be an assumption, not a rule established by the beginner guide.

The Pocket Gamer guide characterizes rubies as scarce. It notes that they can be used for exclusive chests or merge pieces and recommends saving them early. For a beginner, that means ordinary energy management should come before premium spending.
A sensible decision order
- Check whether the request can be completed with a natural energy refill, an energy bubble or merged energy bottles.
- Check whether an existing board item can be merged instead of buying a replacement.
- Keep the rubies if the purchase would only save a short wait or create an item with no immediate request.
- Consider spending only when a scarce piece is genuinely blocking a rare merge you have a clear reason to finish.
The rare-merge example is a strategy suggested by the guide, not a guarantee that it is the best purchase for every player. Shop contents, prices and offers can change. Do not treat an in-game purchase as required for the request-led routine; the guide’s beginner advice is designed around conserving the currency rather than buying progress.
Weekly tasks: make routine play pay twice
Weekly tasks ask for a number of merges or other small objectives and provide rewards when completed. Open the task list early in the week so you know which actions can overlap with your character requests.
How to combine tasks with requests
- If a weekly task counts merges, perform those merges while building a requested chain rather than creating a separate chain solely for the counter.
- When a task asks for a small action you were going to take anyway, complete it before spending energy on optional board experiments.
- Check the task panel after a qualifying action; do not assume progress was credited if the objective has several stages.
- Claim the reward as soon as the task is complete so it does not remain uncollected while the week changes.
The available guide does not state a universal reset time, current reward table or fixed number of objectives for every week. Use the timer and wording displayed in your own task panel rather than an old schedule.
Board-space management
Think several turns ahead
Board space is a resource. Every unmerged item occupies a slot that could hold a piece for the current request. Before producing another item, look at the next few merges needed and decide whether you have room for their intermediate pieces.

Keep, merge or defer
| Board item | Recommended action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Matches an active request chain | Keep it where it is easy to combine, or merge it if the result advances the request. | It has a near-term purpose. |
| Is one step from a requested item | Reserve space for the missing partner and prioritize that chain when energy returns. | A small amount of work may finish the request. |
| Is an energy bubble or bottle | Use or merge it when the resulting energy supports an active request and space is tight. | Recovery items help pacing but still occupy slots. |
| Has no visible request or planned merge | Do not produce more of it; consolidate it only if that creates useful space. | Unplanned inventory becomes clutter. |
The guide recommends keeping the board organized but does not prescribe a single best layout. You do not need a particular corner, pattern or permanent storage zone. The useful rule is functional: leave room for the next requested chain and avoid holding extras that will not be used for several turns.
A quick cleanup checklist
- Are any two pieces ready to merge?
- Does each stored item belong to a current request, a near-term merge or energy recovery?
- Have you delivered every item marked with a green check?
- Would producing one more piece leave enough slots for all of its intermediate steps?
- Can a weekly task be advanced by the same merge?
Mailbox questionnaires and other prompts
The beginner guide also discusses mailbox questionnaires alongside requests, coins and weekly tasks. Treat mailbox messages as prompts to inspect when they appear. Read the wording and reward before committing energy or rubies, and return to the main request panel afterward so a side activity does not displace the item chain that is already paying toward progression. Because questionnaire contents can vary, follow the exact objective shown in your mailbox rather than assuming a permanent reward or schedule.
Events, episodes and version differences
Hollywood Merge receives updated episodes and events, so a screen described in an older guide may not match your installation. Store listings are snapshots, not a promise that every account or region changes at the same time.
What recent US store listings showed
| Store snapshot | Listing detail | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| US Google Play listing | Named VOYAGERONE DISTRIBUTION LIMITED as developer, displayed Episode 74 and listed the Golden Memories event as beginning October 8, 2026. | A listing-specific status; your episode or event timing may differ. |
| US Apple App Store listing | Version history showed version 0.0.923, described as about 16 hours old when checked, and announced Episode 75 plus events scheduled to begin October 16. | A platform- and region-specific version-history snapshot, not a universal rollout time. |
Before relying on an event date, open the update notes and event panel in your own game. If an episode number, task, reward or event name is different, follow the current in-game text. Do not spend rubies based solely on a dated schedule.

Producing items without checking requests
Symptom: The board is full, but no requested item is close to completion.
Fix: Stop the unrelated chain, inspect the request panel and use the next energy spend only on a visible requirement or a merge that creates needed space.
Spending every ruby on the first obstacle
Symptom: A small delay consumes the currency you later need for a rare merge piece.
Fix: Try refilling naturally, popping energy bubbles or merging bottles first. Save rubies unless the purchase resolves a meaningful bottleneck.

Leaving weekly rewards unclaimed
Symptom: You completed qualifying actions but the reward is still waiting in the task panel.
Fix: Open weekly tasks after a milestone and claim each completed reward before the week changes.
Filling the board with “maybe useful” items
Symptom: There is no room for the pieces needed by an active request.
Fix: Merge duplicates, stop generating items with no near-term purpose and retain only a short-term reserve.
Assuming another player’s numbers apply
Symptom: A claimed energy rate, reward or event date does not match your screen.
Fix: Use the values shown by your current version and region. The available guidance does not establish a single energy timer or weekly reset for all players.
A decision framework for each turn
When you are unsure what to do next, ask these questions in order:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- What is visible? Read every character request and mark the unchecked requirement.
- What is affordable? Count your energy and inspect bubbles or bottles before considering rubies.
- What fits? Confirm that the board has room for the intermediate pieces of the chosen chain.
- What overlaps? Prefer a merge that advances both a request and a weekly task.
- What changes after delivery? Recheck requests, quests, coins and available space before producing anything else.
This framework balances the three trade-offs that matter most: immediate energy spending versus waiting, ruby spending versus preserving a scarce reserve, and holding items versus protecting board space. It gives you a reason for every action without pretending that one fixed sequence beats every event or version.
Progression and spending: what to expect
The game’s Google Play listing identifies in-app purchases, but purchases are not required to apply the beginner strategy. Natural energy recovery, energy bubbles, merged bottles and request-led merges remain the core loop. If you do spend, treat any offer as optional and check its current terms in the store shown by your device; prices and contents are not established here and can change.
Coins earned through completed quests support level progression, while rubies are the premium resource the guide says to conserve. Keeping those currencies conceptually separate helps: use ordinary play to build progress, and reserve premium currency for a deliberate bottleneck rather than routine impatience.
