The Steam playtest is live, the official FAQ says it works well on Steam Deck, and Steam is currently the only platform with an available test build. Choose the planned Nintendo Switch version instead if handheld, tabletop, or TV play matters more than immediate access; wait for Nintendo’s regional listing before treating it as available to buy.
Hokko Spaces is a standalone miniature-diorama sandbox from Robert Tatnell and Wonderscope Games, published by Team17. It is planned for Steam and Nintendo Switch later in 2026, but the developer has not announced a specific day, price, physical cartridge, deluxe package, or collector’s edition.
What Hokko Spaces is
Hokko Spaces is a focused creative sandbox built around making small, detailed diorama-style worlds. Instead of presenting a large life-simulation town, it gives you compact spaces to construct, decorate, and bring to life. You place objects, unlock friendly residents through simple goals, and watch Hokko characters move around and interact with the environments you create.

The announcement says every item is designed for Hokko Spaces itself. There is no player-created content system, so the catalog is not an in-game marketplace for sharing user-made objects or levels.
Should you buy Hokko Spaces on PC or Switch?
The best first purchase depends on whether immediate access or portability is your priority. PC is the practical choice today because the Steam playtest is live. Switch is the better format for players who specifically want handheld or tabletop play, but its store listing and purchase details are not available yet.

Why PC is the current recommendation
Steam is the only platform with a playable test build at present. That lets you assess whether the compact building loop and visual presentation suit you before the full release. The official FAQ also identifies Steam Deck as working well, making PC the most flexible option for both desktop and portable play.

Wait until Nintendo’s regional eShop or a confirmed retail page shows the product before assuming that a particular country, edition, price, or launch date is covered.

Release date and current availability
The official FAQ says the release date is “planned for later this year.” Because the announcement is dated June 6, 2026, the published window means later in 2026. It does not provide a day, month, early-access end date, or launch time.
The Steam playtest is available now, but a playtest should not be treated as the final product. Features, item counts, interface details, performance, and availability can change before launch. The available information does not establish a final review build, a guaranteed save transfer from the test, or the exact rules for continued access after release.

Do you need Hokko Life first?
No. Hokko Spaces is not an edition or expansion of Hokko Life. The official FAQ says Hokko Life will not affect Hokko Spaces and that there is currently no cross-game functionality. Owning the earlier game does not unlock residents, items, spaces, camera features, or any other Hokko Spaces content.

You can therefore start with Hokko Spaces when it launches without completing Hokko Life or knowing its story. The two games share a creative sensibility and developer, but the purchase decision should be based on the style of play you want.

Hokko Life on Nintendo Switch
Nintendo’s official listing for Hokko Life identifies a digital Switch release on September 27, 2022. It lists 1.6 GB of storage, single-system play, handheld, tabletop, and TV modes, and compatibility marked as supported on Switch 2. Those details apply to Hokko Life only, not to the unreleased Switch version of Hokko Spaces.
Hokko Life on PC
The Steam listing for Hokko Life gives minimum requirements of Windows 10, 2 GB of RAM, DirectX 11, and 2 GB of storage. Its recommended configuration is 4 GB of RAM, a GTX 660- or R9 270X-class graphics card, and 4 GB of storage. These are useful facts for evaluating Hokko Life, but they must not be used as Hokko Spaces system requirements; no authoritative PC requirements for Hokko Spaces have been published.
Which game fits which player?
- Choose Hokko Spaces if you want compact diorama construction, scene composition, adjustable atmosphere, and a newer focused format.
- Choose Hokko Life if you want a currently released game with a larger collection of life-simulation activities and established Switch and PC listings.

Choose Hokko Life only for its own feature set
Hokko Life is a sensible fallback if you want an already released Hokko game with farming, fishing, crafting, painting, seasonal events, and a broader community-sim structure. It is not a prerequisite, upgrade path, or content key for Hokko Spaces.
