HMD has not confirmed that it is leaving any country. On 15 October 2026, GSMArena and Telset reported the same claim from an unnamed source: HMD may withdraw from “select markets,” reduce production for its global portfolio, concentrate on regional markets and enterprise/industrial hardware, and possibly make no further global product launches during 2026.
The reports do not identify the markets involved. Treat the story as an unconfirmed planning rumor, not a shutdown announcement or proof that support, warranties or sales have ended where you live.
What the October 2026 rumor claims
GSMArena described its source as usually reliable for HMD information, but still labeled the information a rumor. The alleged plan has four parts:
- Withdrawal from unspecified “select markets.”
- Lower production for HMD’s global device portfolio.
- A stronger focus on regional markets instead of a single worldwide strategy.
- More emphasis on enterprise and industrial products, with no additional global product launches during the rest of 2026 possibly under consideration.
Telset repeated those elements on the same day and also said HMD had not officially confirmed them. No affected-country list, timetable, product-by-product cancellation list or revised support policy has been published with the reports.

Is HMD leaving my country?
There is currently no reliable country-by-country answer. The rumor uses the phrase “select markets” without naming any of them, so it cannot establish that HMD is exiting a particular country.
There is an earlier web-presence development that may explain why the claim gained attention. Nokiamob reported on 15 March 2026 that localized HMD pages for many countries had disappeared or redirected to HMD’s international site. The countries it listed were Morocco, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland, Brazil, the United States, Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon and Oman.

- 50 MP camera with Selfie Gestures and Selfie slo-mo.
- HMD Fusion is quite the looker, even in its standard, see-through outfit. It’s serving you an ultra-slim body and a raw, no-frills aesthetic. Elegant and industrial. So when you don’t need any extra functionalities, you can enjoy the au naturel look.
- Product does not include a wall charging adapter. A USB-C cable is included. Product should only be charged using the included USB-C cable and a charging adapter with a charging capacity of 5-33 Watts (Lower rated wattage will result in longer charge times).
A redirected or removed local webpage is evidence of a change in web structure, not proof that stores stopped selling devices, distributors lost authorization, repair centers closed or warranties became invalid. Local inventory and service can continue through carriers, retailers or regional partners even when a country-specific site is no longer maintained.

Is HMD shutting down?
Nothing in the available reporting establishes that HMD is shutting down. A narrower geographic strategy and lower global production would be a restructuring of market priorities, not necessarily a company closure. The distinction matters: a business can reduce worldwide launches while continuing selected phones, feature phones or industrial devices in specific regions.

HMD’s own newsroom lists the ultra-rugged HMD Terra M as becoming available across select European countries in 2026. That country-specific launch is consistent with regional activity continuing, although it does not disprove a plan to reduce the number of markets served globally.
What happens to Nokia phones?
Nokia-branded smartphones, tablets and feature phones do not share one licensing deadline. Nokia’s 2025 annual report describes different rights for the categories:

| Category | Licensing position reported by Nokia | What a buyer should infer |
|---|---|---|
| Nokia-branded phones and tablets generally | The broader Nokia-branded device licence expired by March 2026. | Do not assume a new Nokia smartphone or tablet will be launched or stocked globally under the old arrangement. |
| Nokia-branded feature phones | Rights were extended through March 2029, but only for limited countries. | Some Nokia feature phones can remain legitimate local products through that period; availability is country-specific, not worldwide. |
The March 2029 date is an extension of feature-phone rights, not a promise that every model will be sold until then. A model can go out of stock, lose carrier distribution or be replaced before the licence end date. Check that a listing is official local stock for your country rather than a grey import.

Neither GSMArena nor Telset reported an HMD announcement cancelling warranties or software support. The rumor therefore does not by itself change the written terms attached to a phone you already own. Coverage can nevertheless depend on the selling entity, country law, retailer and whether the device was imported.
Best Value
- Product is universally compatible. The following mobile network providers are confirmed to be compatible at this time: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Boost, Cricket, Tracfone. Other carriers cannot be confirmed to be compatible. Carrier network coverage is dependent upon the carrier's service area. Please confirm compatibility with your carrier first.
- Slide seamlessly from one app to another thanks to its octa-core processor and improved performance with up to 3 GB of additional virtual memory
- Take advantage of all that Android has to offer including regular security updates for enhanced safety
- No more where's my charger panics, with 2-day battery life
- HDR and Al Imaging built right into its dual camera, ready to help take great pictures
If you already own an HMD or Nokia phone
- Save your invoice, serial number, model identifier and the warranty terms supplied at purchase.
- Use the phone’s built-in update screen and HMD’s current support pages for your region rather than relying on a retailer’s listing.
- For a repair, contact the seller or the authorized service channel named on your receipt; a redirected country website does not identify which local provider remains responsible.
- If a service center refuses a covered claim, request the reason in writing and use the consumer-protection process that applies in your country.
If you are considering a purchase
- Confirm that the seller provides a local invoice and names the warranty provider.
- Check cellular bands, 4G or 5G support, eSIM requirements and emergency-calling compatibility for your network.
- Ask how software updates are delivered and for how long the seller expects the model to be supported; do not treat an importer’s “global version” label as an HMD commitment.
- Verify return and repair arrangements before opening the package.
Should you buy a Nokia feature phone now?
A Nokia feature phone can still make sense if you want calling, texting, long battery life and a simple interface, but the 2026 licensing situation makes local verification essential. The Nokia annual report supports continued rights in limited countries, not universal availability.
| Check before buying | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Country availability | A model may be authorized in one of the limited licence countries but absent from yours. |
| Network compatibility | Older 2G or 3G support may not work where those networks have been retired; confirm the exact bands and VoLTE behavior. |
| Warranty and service | Local stock normally gives clearer statutory rights than a grey import. |
| Software and apps | Feature phones have different capabilities and update expectations from smartphones; confirm messaging, hotspot, accessibility and app support before purchase. |
| Seller status | Check the model number, regional packaging and invoice, not just the Nokia name in an online listing. |
What to watch next
A confirmed HMD statement would need to identify affected countries, timing, products and support arrangements before the phrase “market withdrawal” has a practical meaning for customers. Until then, the most useful signals are official HMD announcements, local retailer and carrier listings, and a functioning regional repair channel.
For now, the defensible conclusion is limited: HMD may be considering a smaller, more regional business footprint, but no public evidence names the markets or shows that the company is shutting down. Nokia feature-phone rights extend to March 2029 in limited countries, while the broader Nokia-branded phone and tablet licence timeline is different.
