Hitman: Absolution does not have a published Switch 2 button chart in the available official documentation. Feral Interactive’s manual documents the gamepad functions—movement, camera, sneak, aim, shooting, cover, Instinct, disguises and more—but not Nintendo A/B/X/Y labels. On a Switch 2, open the game’s Controls or Controls Layout screen and use the mapping shown for your connected controller.
Nintendo’s Switch listing confirms gyro aiming, handheld, tabletop and TV modes, and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller support. The practical guide below explains what every documented control does, how to set up stealth and point shooting, and why the camera-shoulder switch should not be confused with a 180-degree quick-turn.
What is officially known about Switch 2 controls?
Feral Interactive’s official manual uses a generic dual-analog gamepad diagram. It identifies functions by their role rather than by Nintendo button letters: the left analog stick moves Agent 47, the right analog stick controls the camera, clicking the movement stick activates sneak, and clicking the camera stick changes the camera shoulder. The manual also lists dedicated inputs for aiming, precision aiming, shooting, running, reloading, Instinct, interaction, picking up objects, taking cover, dragging bodies, melee, agility actions, disguises, holstering, the silencer, weapon categories, the notebook and pausing.

That diagram is not a Switch or Switch 2 button chart. No authoritative primary source in the available documentation assigns those functions to A, B, X, Y, ZL, ZR, L, R or either Joy-Con button. A controller connected to Switch 2 may also display a different layout from handheld Joy-Cons or a Pro Controller. Treat the in-game layout as the final authority.

How to verify your actual mapping
- Start Hitman: Absolution with the controller you intend to use.
- From the title or pause menu, open the entry labelled Controls, Controls Layout or an equivalent controller-settings screen.
- Choose the displayed gamepad diagram and identify the inputs for aim, shoot, Instinct, interact, cover and sneak before starting a mission.
- Test a non-critical action in a safe area. Confirm which stick controls the camera, which stick click activates sneak, and which shoulder input changes the camera side.
- Repeat the check after switching between handheld controls, detached Joy-Cons and a Pro Controller. Do not assume the labels remain identical.
If an on-screen prompt conflicts with a remembered button, follow the prompt and the current layout screen. Prompts are tied to the active controller profile; a generic internet diagram cannot replace them.
Complete function reference from the gamepad manual
The table describes the documented functions without inventing Nintendo button labels. “Hold” means the action is active while the listed generic input is held; the physical button must be read from your Switch 2 layout screen.
| Function | Generic gamepad input described by the manual | When you use it |
|---|---|---|
| Move | Left analog stick | Walk or steer Agent 47 through a level. |
| Camera | Right analog stick | Look around, line up a target and check corners. |
| Camera-shoulder switch | Click the camera stick | Move the over-the-shoulder view to the opposite side. |
| Sneak | Click the movement stick | Enter the slower, quieter movement mode. |
| Aim | Hold the aim shoulder control | Raise a firearm or other aiming-capable item. |
| Precision aim | Separate input while aiming | Refine the reticle after entering aim mode. |
| Shoot, throw or drop item | Dedicated action input | Fire a weapon or handle the currently selected throwable/item as prompted. |
| Run | Dedicated movement-speed input | Move quickly when stealth is no longer the priority. |
| Reload | Dedicated reload input | Refill the equipped firearm when ammunition is available. |
| Instinct mode / blend in | Dedicated Instinct input | Reveal useful information and, with a matching disguise, blend into crowds. |
| Interact | Dedicated interaction input | Use doors, switches and other mission objects. |
| Pick up | Dedicated pickup input | Collect a weapon, item or object when the prompt appears. |
| Take cover | Dedicated cover input | Attach to suitable cover and move between cover points. |
| Drag body | Dedicated body-drag input | Move an unconscious or eliminated person to a hiding place. |
| Melee | Dedicated melee input | Perform a close-range attack when the situation allows it. |
| Activate items | Dedicated item-activation input | Use an equipped object rather than merely carrying it. |
| Agility actions | Dedicated agility input | Perform a contextual movement action when the game presents one. |
| Take disguise | Dedicated disguise input | Adopt clothing from a body or clothing bundle when the prompt is available. |
| Holster weapon | Dedicated holster input | Put a weapon away before moving through areas where carrying it is suspicious. |
| Toggle silencer | Dedicated silencer input | Change the equipped weapon’s silencer state when supported. |
| Weapon-category selection | Dedicated category-selection input | Switch between available weapon or item categories. |
| Notebook | Dedicated notebook input | Open mission information and related notes. |
| Pause | Dedicated pause input | Pause the action and reach menus such as controls. |
The manual’s wording establishes the functions, not the exact Nintendo hardware labels. If a table cell in your game shows a different physical button, use the game’s current display rather than remapping from a generic controller image.

Absolution is built around controlling exposure rather than simply moving from one objective marker to the next. The useful control sequence is cover, observation, distraction, takedown, concealment and disguise. The following order keeps those actions understandable when prompts appear quickly.
1. Approach exposed areas through cover
Use the take-cover input when a wall, vehicle, furniture item or other marked surface offers protection. From cover, look with the right stick and watch patrols before moving. When the game presents a route between cover points, follow the prompt to change position instead of crossing an open lane. The camera-shoulder switch can make a corner easier to inspect, but it only changes the viewing side; it is not automatically a rapid 180-degree turn.

2. Use sneak when noise and visibility matter
Click the movement stick to activate sneak according to the manual. Sneak is the appropriate state for closing distance, moving past a distracted guard or positioning for a silent takedown. It is slower than running, so switch to normal movement or run only after you have judged the exposure of the next area.
3. Treat items as tools, not inventory decoration
The manual describes items that can be weapons, distractions or both. Pick up an object when prompted, select the appropriate category, then activate or throw it using the displayed action. A distraction can pull a guard away from a doorway or body; a weapon may solve a problem but can also create witnesses and an investigation. Decide what the object is meant to accomplish before using it.

4. Hide every body that could be discovered
After a takedown, use the drag-body action and move the person to a suitable hiding spot. Leaving a body in a patrol route can turn a quiet elimination into an alarm. Check the surrounding space before releasing the body, then holster any suspicious weapon if you need to pass through a public area.
5. Take a disguise only when it improves access
When a body or clothing bundle offers a disguise, hold the take-disguise action near it. A disguise changes who can move through an area without immediate suspicion, but it is not a universal pass. Use Instinct to blend in with people wearing the same type of outfit, and remain alert for characters who can recognize an impostor. Holstering a weapon is also important when the disguise or location makes an exposed firearm suspicious.
Instinct: information, blending and resource management
Instinct is more than a visibility filter. The manual says it can highlight usable items and objectives, predict enemy paths and help Agent 47 blend in with people wearing the same type of outfit. Activate it before committing to a route, especially when you cannot see the next patrol from cover.

Use Instinct before you move
- Scan for highlighted items that can create a distraction or provide another approach.
- Check objectives so you do not enter a restricted area without a reason.
- Watch predicted enemy paths and wait for a gap rather than improvising in the open.
- With a matching disguise, use the blend-in function to reduce attention while crossing a crowd.
How the meter comes back
The manual states that the Instinct meter can be replenished by completing objectives, creating distractions and making stealthy takedowns. That makes a patient route valuable: a completed objective or quiet diversion can restore the resource you need for the next guarded section. Do not spend every charge on a long scan when a short look at a patrol route is enough.
Aiming, shooting and precision control
Ordinary shooting
For standard firearm use, hold the generic aim shoulder control, point with the camera stick and press the shoot input. Reload with the dedicated reload action when the weapon requires it. The exact shoulder and face-button labels are not established for Switch 2, so read them from the in-game layout.
Precision aim
Precision aim is a separate input available while aiming. Enter aim first, then use the precision-aim action to refine your reticle for a difficult shot. Because it is a second stage, pressing the precision control before aim may do nothing or trigger another context-sensitive action.
Point shooting
Point shooting is deliberate rather than an instant panic button. The manual’s sequence is:
- Enter Instinct mode.
- Aim at the targets you want to include.
- Tag the targets using the displayed target-marking prompt.
- Take the shots after the targets are tagged.
Practice the order in a low-risk situation. If you fire before tagging, you are performing ordinary shooting, not the documented point-shooting sequence.

Gyro aiming
Nintendo’s official listing says the Switch edition includes gyro aiming and describes it as a precision feature. Use gyro as a fine-adjustment aid after entering aim, while keeping the stick for broad camera movement. The listing does not publish a Switch 2-specific gyro button or sensitivity chart, so do not assume a particular trigger, toggle or calibration gesture. Check the game’s control and motion settings on your hardware.
Is there a quick-turn button?
No named quick-turn command or Switch 2 button assignment is defined in the available primary sources. The documented camera-stick click switches the camera shoulder. It should not be advertised as a 180-degree quick-turn unless the game’s own Controls Layout screen explicitly labels it that way.
For a fast reversal, use the right stick to rotate the camera while maintaining awareness of Agent 47’s position. If your layout includes a separate action labelled quick turn, use that displayed assignment; otherwise, do not bind a remembered button from another game to this title. The distinction matters because changing the camera shoulder preserves the over-the-shoulder view, while a true quick-turn would change the character’s facing direction.
Choosing a Switch 2 control setup
| Setup | Strengths | Trade-offs | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stick-only handheld | Consistent movement and camera control without motion input; easy to use anywhere. | Fine reticle adjustments depend entirely on the right stick and precision-aim action. | Quiet exploration, cover movement and players who prefer traditional controls. |
| Handheld with gyro | Combines stick rotation with small motion corrections; supported by Nintendo’s listing. | Motion can be awkward if the console is held at an unusual angle or moved while scanning. | Fine aiming after entering aim mode, especially when a small reticle correction is needed. |
| Pro Controller with sticks | Full-size grips and separated sticks make long sessions and camera checks comfortable. | Requires a separate controller and does not change the need to verify labels in-game. | TV play, deliberate stealth routes and players who prefer a conventional gamepad. |
| Pro Controller with gyro | Combines stable grips with motion-assisted precision where enabled. | Motion behavior and toggles still depend on the game’s settings and active layout. | Players who want precise aiming without giving up full-size controls. |
There is no evidence here that one setup is objectively faster or more accurate. Choose the arrangement that lets you keep the camera controlled, the aim input accessible and the motion sensor stable.

- Scout. Move with the left stick, look with the right stick and click the camera stick if another shoulder gives you a clearer view.
- Plan. Activate Instinct to identify objectives, usable items and predicted patrol paths.
- Approach. Sneak and move between cover points when the route is exposed.
- Separate. Pick up and activate or throw a distraction when a guard blocks access.
- Eliminate quietly. Use the melee or contextual takedown action when the opportunity is safe.
- Conceal. Drag the body to an appropriate hiding place before continuing.
- Adopt access. Take a disguise if it improves movement through the next area, then use blend-in when matching people are present.
- Escalate only if necessary. If a shot is required, aim, use precision aim for the final adjustment, and reload or change weapon category as needed.
- Recover. Complete objectives, create another distraction or perform a stealthy takedown to replenish Instinct for the next section.
Common control problems and fixes
“The button I expected does not work.”
Open the in-game Controls Layout screen and confirm the active controller profile. Switch 2 may be using a different display for handheld controls, detached Joy-Cons or a Pro Controller. Use the function name, not a memorized Nintendo letter, to identify the action.

“I keep changing shoulders when I want to turn around.”
You are probably clicking the camera stick. That action is documented as a camera-shoulder switch. Release the stick click and rotate the camera normally; only use a separate quick-turn command if the game explicitly shows one.
“I cannot trigger point shooting.”
Follow the complete sequence: enter Instinct, aim at targets, tag them, then fire. A normal shot taken before tagging does not become point shooting afterward.
“Gyro aiming does nothing.”
Confirm that motion aiming is enabled in the game’s settings, that you are actually in aim mode, and that the active controller supports motion input in your current play mode. Nintendo confirms gyro aiming for the Switch edition, but does not publish a universal Switch 2 toggle or button label.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute“A disguise still attracts attention.”
Use Instinct’s blend-in function with people wearing the same type of outfit, holster a weapon when appropriate and avoid assuming that every character accepts every disguise. A disguise improves access; it does not remove all suspicion.
Switch release facts
Nintendo’s official UK listing identifies Hitman: Absolution as Nintendo Switch download software released on 13 November 2025. The listing describes 20 missions, gyro aiming, handheld, tabletop and TV modes, and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller compatibility.
Those details describe the Switch release. They do not establish a separate Switch 2 button diagram, a distinct Switch 2 edition or a particular store-delivery behavior. If you are playing the Switch version on Switch 2, rely on the controls shown by the running game and on the controller profile currently connected.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Learn the functions first—left stick movement, right stick camera, stick-click sneak and camera-shoulder switching—then confirm the physical Switch 2 buttons in the game’s Controls Layout screen. Use cover, distractions, body hiding, disguises and Instinct for stealth; use aim, precision aim and the documented Instinct-to-tag-to-fire sequence for shooting. Gyro aiming is supported, but no official source assigns a universal Switch 2 quick-turn or button map.
