The Hitachi R-V410PT8BBK is a discontinued, 375 L top-freezer refrigerator with a reported 250 L fridge and 125 L freezer. CHOICE lists 268 kWh/year claimed energy use and a 4.5-star rating, but its public page does not reveal the model’s expert test scores. Whether it is worth buying now depends on the unit’s condition, verified availability, and the warranty and service support offered by the seller.
What the Hitachi R-V410PT8BBK offers
The R-V410PT8BBK is the black-finish version in Hitachi’s R-V410PT8 top-freezer family. CHOICE places it in the 300–380 L size band and lists 375 L total capacity, split between a 250 L refrigerator compartment and a 125 L freezer compartment. These are reported capacity figures, not a guarantee of usable space for every type of food or container. CHOICE’s model listing identifies the model year tested as 2020.
Features listed by Hitachi
Hitachi’s January 2019 product sheet lists tempered-glass shelves, LED lighting in the refrigerator compartment, a movable twist ice tray, a Triple Power Filter, a moldproof door gasket, and Fresh Select storage that switches between vegetable and dairy/meat modes. These are manufacturer specifications and feature claims; they do not establish independent results for food preservation, filtration, or durability. The sheet gives dimensions of 1605 × 650 × 720 mm and 375 L capacity. Hitachi’s product specification sheet also notes that specifications may change.

How much space does the Hitachi R-V410PT8BBK need?
CHOICE lists the cabinet at 161 cm high, 65 cm wide, and 72 cm deep. Its recommended installation envelope is 166 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 77 cm deep. Plan around the larger installation figures rather than treating the cabinet measurements as the full space requirement: allow for the listed envelope and check the actual unit’s manual and site conditions, including door movement and access through the delivery route, before purchase. CHOICE’s listing supplies both sets of figures.

What do the energy and price figures mean?
CHOICE reports a 4.5-star energy rating and claimed consumption of 268 kWh per year. The page content accessed on 7 October 2026 presents those figures, but they are not new measurements from 2026; the model’s listed test year is 2020. Treat them as reported specifications, not a prediction of your household’s actual electricity use, which depends on conditions and use.
CHOICE also displays A$949 as the price, but the model is marked discontinued and that figure is a historical page value, not a current quote. It should not be used as a benchmark for a used unit or remaining stock without checking the seller’s current price, condition, and included coverage. CHOICE lists a five-year warranty and Thailand as the country of origin; for any specific unit, confirm whether warranty coverage still applies and who will provide local service. CHOICE’s model page is the source for the reported rating, consumption, price, warranty, origin, and discontinued status.

Is the Hitachi R-V410PT8BBK discontinued?
Yes. CHOICE currently identifies the R-V410PT8BBK as discontinued. That does not establish that every retailer or second-hand seller has no unit available, but availability and condition need to be confirmed directly. Ask whether the refrigerator is new, display stock, or used; inspect it in person if possible; and get the return terms, warranty status, and service arrangements in writing.
What do independent tests and owners say?
CHOICE lists 2020 as the model year tested, but its accessible page gates the Expert Rating and model-specific results for temperature stability, evenness and range, heat-load processing, running cost over 10 years, temperature mapping, noise, reliability, and satisfaction. The public information therefore does not establish whether the refrigerator performed well or poorly in those tests. CHOICE’s page does not provide public numerical scores for this model.

ProductReview.com.au’s R-V410PT8 family page shows two owner reviews and lists R-V410PT8BBK among verified model numbers. One reviewer describes noise and a door-finish/denting issue; another describes the refrigerator as quiet and energy efficient. With only two self-selected accounts that conflict, these comments cannot establish a general noise, build-quality, or reliability pattern.

It may be worth considering if a particular unit fits your kitchen and budget, its condition can be checked, and the seller provides acceptable warranty or return terms. The published specifications give a clear capacity and space-planning starting point, but the accessible independent evidence does not show its test scores, and the limited owner feedback is inconclusive. Do not pay a premium based only on the historic A$949 listing or assume that a discontinued model will have easy parts and service support.

- Check the appliance dimensions and the maker’s required installation clearances against your available space.
- Compare claimed annual energy use using the same market’s rating system, and confirm the figure applies to the model and market being sold.
- Check warranty terms, local service access, and parts support for the exact unit.
- Look for independent results on temperature control, food preservation, and noise; do not infer a ranking for this Hitachi from scores that are not publicly visible.
