The Hitachi R-B330PT9 is a 303 L bottom-mount refrigerator, but there is not enough public test information to say whether it performed well in independent testing. CHOICE lists it as discontinued, and its detailed test results are available only to members. Treat it as a model to assess by its fit, condition, service support and the evidence available for the particular unit—not as a currently verified recommendation.
What the R-B330PT9 offers
Hitachi’s Australia product sheet, dated January 2019, describes the R-B330PT9 as a 303 L bottom-mount freezer inverter refrigerator. CHOICE lists the claimed capacity as 303 L, divided into 195 L for the fridge and 108 L for the freezer. These are stated capacities, not independently measured usable-volume figures.
The feature list in Hitachi’s sheet includes an inverter controller, two Eco Thermo Sensors, a vegetable compartment, Nano Titanium, spot cooling, a mould-proof door gasket, no-frost operation, an ice tray and ice box, LED lighting, tempered-glass shelves and a slide-out chilled case. Hitachi says the compressor varies cooling power and that the sensors separately detect temperature changes in the fridge and freezer compartments; these are descriptions of the design, not proof of cooling performance.

What independent testing does—and does not—show
CHOICE’s public listing identifies 2024 as the test year and marks the model discontinued. It displays a 3.5 energy-star rating and claimed energy use of 316 kWh per year. Its public page does not disclose the expert rating or results for heat-load processing, 10-year running cost, temperature variation, noise, reliability or owner satisfaction. The available information therefore does not support a confident verdict that the fridge tested well or poorly. CHOICE’s R-B330PT9 listing shows the publicly available details.
Hitachi’s January 2019 sheet also states 316 kWh per year. Treat this as a historical manufacturer claim, not a guarantee of actual consumption: usage, conditions and energy-label conventions can differ. Check the label and documentation for the specific unit and market.

Dimensions and installation clearances
CHOICE lists the body as 160 cm high, 56 cm wide and 66 cm deep. Its recommended installation dimensions are 165 cm high, 66 cm wide and 71 cm deep. Allow for the larger installation space rather than measuring only the cabinet opening, and verify the unit’s route through doors and hallways.
Hitachi’s manual calls for a rigid, level floor and a room temperature between 10°C and 43°C. It specifies at least 30 cm above and 5 cm on each side, and says rear clearance must not exceed 7.5 cm. These requirements can affect whether a space that appears large enough is actually suitable. Hitachi Australia’s manuals and downloads are the place to check the instructions for the relevant model.

- Use a grounded, exclusive wall outlet at the rated voltage, and confirm local electrical requirements.
- Confirm ventilation clearances and the floor is level before installation.
Initial cooling and everyday food storage
According to the manual, the compressor may start in about 30 seconds if the interior is not cold. Allow about four hours for sufficient cooling before loading food; in high ambient temperatures it may take about 24 hours. These are manufacturer instructions, not independent test timings.
For routine use, the manual advises leaving space for airflow, keeping the cold-air vent clear, letting hot food cool before storing it, and using wrapping or sealed containers to limit drying and odor transfer. Its Fresh Select compartment is described as suitable for fruit, vegetables, dairy, meat or fish, but high-moisture food placed near the cold-air vent may freeze. The manual recommends the freezer for meat or fish intended for longer storage. The Spot Cool area on the lower shelf directs chilled air toward items placed there.

Any temperature figures in the manual are approximate and conditional on a 32°C outside temperature, normal settings, closed doors and no food load; they should not be read as guaranteed temperatures in every kitchen or loading condition. For repairs or LED replacement, the manual directs users to a dealer or Hitachi Service Center.

Hitachi’s 2019 Australia sheet states a five-year parts-and-labour warranty and an additional five years of parts warranty on the inverter compressor. Those are historical manufacturer-sheet terms, not confirmation of coverage for a present-day purchase. Ask the seller for the applicable written warranty, including what is covered, the dates, region and service arrangements.

CHOICE’s page displays a price of $899, but this is the price shown on that listing, not a verified current offer. Since the model is marked discontinued, an advertised unit may be remaining stock or used. Confirm its age, condition, seller, return terms and access to service before committing.
Is it worth buying?
There is no substantiated public performance verdict to settle whether the R-B330PT9 is a good fridge. Consider it only if the specific unit fits your space and needs, its condition and warranty are clear, and you are comfortable making the decision without publicly disclosed detailed CHOICE test results. Compare it with available models on usable capacity and layout, installation dimensions, independently measured energy use, noise and temperature testing, warranty terms and service support.
