Neither the Hisense U7SG nor the TCL QM7L is the universal winner. RTINGS’ September 10, 2026 comparison favors the U7SG for reflection handling, low-quality-content processing, out-of-box color accuracy and HDR tracking. Tom’s Guide, meanwhile, describes the QM7L’s picture as more vivid and punchy. Choose based on your room, the image you prefer and the current price for the same screen size.

Which TV is better for a bright room?
The U7SG is the better-supported choice when windows or room lights create reflections on your screen. RTINGS lists its finish as matte and favors its reflection handling over the QM7L’s. That matters if you watch during the day or cannot reposition the TV to avoid light sources.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThis is a specific advantage, not a guarantee that glare will disappear in every room. Brightness, window placement and viewing angle also shape the experience; the comparison’s cited finding supports the U7SG for reflection handling, not a promise of glare-free viewing.

Which picture looks better: more vivid or more accurate?
Choose the QM7L for a punchier color impression
Tom’s Guide says the QM7L’s SQD approach produces a more vivid, punchy presentation than the U7SG’s traditional quantum-dot display. Consider it if you prefer colors that appear more saturated and lively. That description is about the perceived style of the image, not proof that it is more color-accurate.
Choose the U7SG if accuracy and HDR tracking matter more
RTINGS favors the U7SG for out-of-box color accuracy and HDR PQ EOTF tracking. In practical terms, those findings make it the stronger choice between these two if you value a picture that tracks the intended color and HDR brightness presentation more closely without relying on a vivid-looking image as the main goal.
These priorities can point to different sets: “punchier” and “more accurate” are not interchangeable verdicts. Your preference for saturated color versus closer tracking should guide the choice.
How do refresh rates and gaming fit into the decision?
RTINGS lists a 165 Hz native refresh rate for the U7SG and 144 Hz for the QM7L. That is one specification to compare, but refresh rate alone does not establish which TV has better gaming performance. The cited comparison does not provide enough detail here to make a complete feature-by-feature gaming verdict, so check the exact model’s inputs, supported gaming formats and settings against your console or PC before buying.

Tom’s Guide names gaming among the U7SG’s strengths in its August 24, 2026 review, alongside color and audio. It also notes muddy blacks and shadows as drawbacks. Treat that as the review’s assessment rather than a guarantee of how the set will look in your room or with every game.

Tom’s Guide’s August 24, 2026 U7SG review mentioned a $899 sale price. Its QM7L review described a 55-inch listed price of $1,200 and sale pricing as low as $1,000 at the time covered. These are dated examples from separate review contexts, not current offers or a same-size, same-date price comparison. U7SG review · QM7L review
For a useful buying comparison, look up both TVs in the same size and compare the current price, delivery terms and availability. A past price for one model cannot establish which is the better deal today. The available size information is also uneven: Hisense confirms multiple U7SG sizes, while the cited sources do not establish the QM7L’s full size range.
Which one should you buy?
- Pick the Hisense U7SG if the TV will face windows or lights, you watch lower-quality content and want the stronger result in RTINGS’s reflection-handling, processing, color-accuracy and HDR-tracking comparisons.
- Consider the TCL QM7L if you prefer a more vivid, punchy color presentation and its current price for the size you want works for you.
- Compare before paying extra if you are choosing primarily for gaming: the refresh-rate difference is not, by itself, a full gaming-performance verdict.
- Check size and availability carefully before settling on a model, particularly if you need a size other than one confirmed on the manufacturer’s U7SG materials.
RTINGS’s side-by-side verdict favors the U7SG, while Tom’s Guide’s shopping perspective leans toward the QM7L for buyers seeking the best performance in this price tier. Neither editorial judgment eliminates the other’s priorities: room reflections and accuracy favor the U7SG in the cited comparison, while the QM7L may appeal more if its punchier image is what you want.
