Choose the Hisense PX4 Pro if gaming is important to you or you want the newer model’s measured improvements in input lag, contrast and rainbow-effect control. It adds variable refresh rate (VRR), supports high-refresh gaming and uses Hisense’s VIDAA smart-TV platform. Choose the Hisense PX3-Pro if you specifically want Google TV or can buy it at a substantially lower current price. The two projectors perform similarly overall, so the right choice depends more on those differences, your room and your actual local price than on a simple “newer is always better” rule.
Prices and firmware can change. Hisense announced a US PX4 Pro MSRP of $3,999.99 when sales began on July 21, 2026; treat that as launch pricing, not a current quote. Check your regional retailer listings before deciding.
PX4 Pro vs. PX3-Pro at a glance
Both are ultra-short-throw (UST) 4K-class laser projectors designed to sit close to a wall or screen. Independent testing finds similar overall performance, but the PX4 Pro has the more capable gaming feature set and some image-quality advantages. The PX3-Pro’s main differentiator is its Google TV interface.

What the PX4 Pro changes
New RGB triple-laser hardware
Hisense describes the PX4 Pro as a TriChroma RGB ultra-short-throw projector using its LPU Digital Laser Engine 3.0. The US product page identifies an RGB triple-laser module, a 0.47-inch DMD, a DLP 8445 chip and a precision iris lens. Hisense also says the laser module provides “15% more brightness.” That is a manufacturer claim; it is not an independently verified brightness comparison in the available testing, so do not assume the PX4 Pro will be 15% brighter than every PX3-Pro in every room.
For the PX3-Pro, Hisense lists 4K AI upscaling, Dolby Vision and 3000:1 native contrast. The contrast figure is a manufacturer specification and should not be read as a directly comparable laboratory result against the PX4 Pro.
Image improvements found in independent testing
RTINGS’ direct comparison says the PX4 Pro improves input lag, contrast and rainbow-effect handling while keeping broadly similar overall performance. “Rainbow effect” refers to brief red, green or blue color flashes that some viewers notice on DLP projectors, especially in high-contrast scenes or when moving their eyes quickly. If you or a family member is sensitive to that artifact, the PX4 Pro is the safer choice based on the comparison.
Recommended Free Tools
What Hi-Fi? also reported that the PX4 Pro controlled bright image elements against dark sections better than the PX3 and cheaper UST models during its viewing evaluation. That is a reviewer observation, not a controlled measurement, but it points to a practical benefit in scenes that combine highlights with shadows.
Gaming: the clearest reason to buy PX4 Pro
VRR and high refresh rates
RTINGS lists PX4 Pro support for variable refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and refresh rates up to 240 Hz at 1080p. VRR synchronizes the display’s refresh timing with a compatible console or PC, reducing tearing and helping motion look steadier when frame rates fluctuate. The 240 Hz figure applies to a 1080p signal; it does not mean the projector displays native 4K at 240 Hz. The source describes the 4K presentation as pixel-shift 4K.
The PX3-Pro does not support VRR according to the same comparison. If you play competitive games, use a gaming PC, or want a projector that can adapt to uneven frame rates, this difference is more consequential than a small change in menu software.

Input lag and connection planning
RTINGS finds lower input lag on the PX4 Pro, but the cited comparison does not provide a single lag number to quote here. Connect a console or PC directly to a projector input that supports the required HDMI 2.1 features, then enable the source’s game mode and VRR output. Receivers, soundbars and HDMI switches can limit bandwidth or disable VRR; test the complete signal chain rather than assuming every component passes it through.
Choose the PX3-Pro for gaming only if VRR and the PX4 Pro’s lower measured lag are not important to you, or if the PX3-Pro’s price is sufficiently lower to justify giving up those capabilities.
Smart-TV experience: VIDAA versus Google TV
PX4 Pro and VIDAA
The PX4 Pro uses VIDAA. Its menus, app catalog, voice features and update policy are different from Google TV’s, and availability can vary by country. Verify that the streaming services you use are supported in your region before buying. If a service is missing, an external streaming device connected by HDMI can provide an alternative interface, but it adds another remote and power requirement.
PX3-Pro and Google TV
The PX3-Pro includes Google TV. Buyers already using Google accounts, Google Assistant, casting and the Google TV content layout may find it more familiar. Google TV does not automatically make the PX3-Pro the better projector: the PX4 Pro still has the gaming and image-performance advantages identified by RTINGS.
When both models are connected to a separate streaming box, the platform difference matters less. When you expect the projector’s built-in software to be your primary source, choose the interface you prefer and confirm local app support rather than relying on screenshots from another market.

Ultra-short-throw installation and screen requirements
A UST projector’s optical geometry is much less forgiving than a conventional long-throw projector. Small changes in height, angle or distance can move the image dramatically. A wall that looks flat to the eye may produce visible waves or uneven focus across a very large picture.

Before you order
- Measure the wall width and ceiling height where the image will go.
- Check the projector’s current regional manual for throw distance, cabinet clearance and image-size limits.
- Confirm that the screen is designed for UST projection. UST-compatible ambient-light-rejecting (ALR) screens use a different optical structure from ordinary front-projection screens.
- Allow space for ventilation, power, HDMI cables and access to the projector’s controls.
- Account for seating distance, speaker placement and any soundbar that may sit in front of the screen.
Hisense’s PX3-Pro product page specifies a maximum 150-inch image. The cited PX4 Pro material does not provide a complete screen-compatibility and placement guide, so obtain the current PX4 Pro manual and the screen manufacturer’s documentation before committing to a particular size. Do not infer that a screen suitable for one UST model is automatically suitable for the other.
Basic alignment procedure
- Place the projector on a rigid, level surface centered on the screen’s horizontal axis.
- Set the projector at the distance specified for your target diagonal; measure from the correct reference point in the manual, not from whichever cabinet edge is easiest to reach.
- Turn on the projector and display a built-in grid or alignment pattern.
- Move the entire chassis to correct position and size. Avoid using digital keystone as the first fix, because geometric correction can reduce usable resolution and introduce scaling.
- Adjust focus and recheck all four corners. If one corner remains soft while the center is sharp, revisit leveling and screen flatness before changing picture settings.
- Only after the physical alignment is correct should you install the screen permanently and route cables.
Picture quality in a real room
UST projectors can produce a cinema-sized image, but room light and screen choice strongly affect perceived contrast. Dark walls, controlled lighting and a suitable UST screen help preserve shadow detail. A bright room can wash out blacks even when a projector’s specification lists a high native-contrast number.
The PX4 Pro’s precision iris and the contrast advantage reported by RTINGS are most relevant in mixed scenes, where bright highlights and dark areas appear together. What Hi-Fi?’s observation about controlling bright elements against dark sections describes the same type of viewing benefit. These findings do not establish that the PX4 Pro is universally brighter or better in every installation.

Compare the final picture with the room lights on and off; a showroom demonstration cannot predict your wall, screen and seating arrangement exactly.
What an upgrade really means
Owners of a PX3-Pro should not assume that every viewing session will look dramatically different after moving to PX4 Pro. RTINGS characterizes overall performance as similar, with specific gains in input lag, contrast and rainbow-effect handling. The upgrade is easiest to justify when you will use the new features repeatedly: VRR for variable frame rates, high-refresh 1080p play, or a direct comparison that confirms you notice the improved contrast control.
If your PX3-Pro is used almost entirely for films and television through Google TV, the practical change may be smaller. In that case, compare the cost of selling or replacing the existing projector, a possible new streaming device, a UST screen and installation work. A lower-priced PX3-Pro can be the more sensible first purchase for a new buyer, while an existing owner may reasonably keep the current unit until gaming or picture limitations become noticeable.

Signal-chain and setup pitfalls
- Assuming every HDMI component passes VRR: An AV receiver, soundbar or switch may restrict bandwidth. Connect the gaming source directly to the projector while troubleshooting.
- Confusing 240 Hz with 4K/240 Hz: The cited PX4 Pro specification is up to 240 Hz at 1080p, with pixel-shift 4K described separately.
- Using keystone to fix a misplaced projector: Reposition and level the chassis first; digital correction can reduce image detail.
- Buying a standard projector screen: UST light strikes the screen from a steep angle. Confirm that the screen is specifically rated for UST use and for your chosen diagonal.
- Judging contrast from a bright showroom: Test or evaluate in lighting similar to your room, including the lights you normally leave on.
- Assuming identical regional software: VIDAA and Google TV catalogs, voice functions, firmware and bundled accessories can vary by country.
- Planning around an unverified maximum size: The PX3-Pro page lists 150 inches; obtain the PX4 Pro manual before ordering a screen at the edge of your wall.
Price, availability and regional differences
Hisense announced that the PX4 Pro became available in the United States through its shop, Amazon and Best Buy on July 21, 2026, with a $3,999.99 MSRP: Hisense’s availability announcement. That figure is a launch MSRP, not a promise of today’s selling price, a sale price or availability outside the US.

Which projector should you buy?
Buy the PX4 Pro when:
- You play on a console or PC and want VRR, HDMI 2.1 bandwidth or high-refresh 1080p gaming up to 240 Hz.
- Lower input lag matters for fast games.
- You are sensitive to DLP rainbow artifacts and want the model that performed better on rainbow-effect handling in RTINGS’ comparison.
- You value the PX4 Pro’s reported contrast improvement or the reviewer-observed control of bright elements in dark scenes.
- VIDAA provides the apps and controls you need, or you plan to use an external streamer.
- The current PX4 Pro price is close enough to the PX3-Pro’s price that the newer gaming and image features justify the difference.
Buy the PX3-Pro when:
- Google TV is a priority and you want it built in rather than supplied by an external device.
- You mainly watch films and shows and do not need VRR or the PX4 Pro’s high-refresh gaming modes.
- You find a meaningfully lower verified price after comparing warranty and return terms.
- Your room and screen are already planned around its 150-inch maximum specification.
Wait or reconsider both when:
- You cannot confirm UST screen compatibility and throw distance for your room.
- You need a specific streaming app that is unavailable on the local version of the chosen platform.
- You are expecting a native-4K, 240-Hz gaming image; the cited PX4 Pro gaming description specifies pixel-shift 4K and up to 240 Hz at 1080p.
- You are choosing solely from the manufacturer’s “15% more brightness” statement rather than an independently measured result.
Pre-purchase checklist
- Write down the projector’s current local price, warranty and return window.
- Measure the intended screen width, height and projector position.
- Confirm the screen is rated for UST projection and for the diagonal you want.
- List every gaming source and check whether you need VRR, HDMI 2.1 bandwidth or 1080p high refresh.
- Check the local VIDAA or Google TV app catalog for your essential services.
- Read the current regional manual for ventilation, placement, supported signals and firmware procedures.
- Plan direct HDMI connections for gaming sources if a receiver or switch might restrict bandwidth.
- Buy only after deciding whether your priority is gaming capability, built-in smart-TV software, image performance or the verified price difference.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the PX4 Pro a major upgrade over the PX3-Pro?
It is a targeted upgrade rather than a completely different class of projector. RTINGS reports similar overall performance, with the PX4 Pro ahead in input lag, contrast and rainbow-effect handling and adding VRR. Those changes matter most to gamers and viewers sensitive to DLP artifacts.
Which projector is better for PS5, Xbox or PC gaming?
The PX4 Pro is the stronger choice because RTINGS lists VRR, HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and up to 240 Hz at 1080p, along with lower input lag than the PX3-Pro. Check your console, cable, receiver and switch settings because any link can limit VRR or bandwidth.
Does the PX4 Pro display 4K at 240 Hz?
No such combination is established here. The cited specification lists up to 240 Hz at 1080p and describes 4K presentation as pixel-shift 4K. Treat those as separate operating modes.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Is the PX4 Pro 15% brighter than the PX3-Pro?
Hisense describes the PX4 Pro module as offering 15% more brightness, but that is a manufacturer claim rather than an independently verified head-to-head measurement. Room lighting, picture mode and screen material also affect perceived brightness.
Can I use the same screen for both projectors?
Possibly, but do not assume it. Confirm each model’s throw geometry, image-size range and the screen manufacturer’s UST compatibility guidance. The PX3-Pro page lists a 150-inch maximum; obtain the current PX4 Pro manual before ordering a screen.
Is the PX3-Pro still worth buying?
Yes, when Google TV is your priority, VRR is unnecessary and the verified local price is meaningfully lower. Compare warranty, returns and total installation costs rather than relying on an old or advertised price.
What should I verify before installation?
Confirm throw distance, cabinet clearance, ventilation, supported signals, screen size and UST screen compatibility in the regional manual. Level the projector physically, align the chassis before using keystone, and test the complete HDMI chain with your actual sources.
The Bottom Line
PX4 Pro is the better all-round pick for serious gaming and for viewers who value the measured contrast, input-lag and rainbow-effect improvements. PX3-Pro remains the sensible alternative when Google TV or a substantially lower verified price matters more. Before either purchase, confirm your local price, app catalog, UST screen, throw distance and HDMI requirements.
