The Hisense PX4 Pro has the ingredients of a compelling ultra-short-throw projector: RGB triple-laser color, a claimed 3,500 ANSI lumens, an adjustable iris and gaming modes reaching 240 Hz at 2K. Independent reviewers also found meaningful picture and setup drawbacks. No reviewed Hisense announcement or product page confirms an imminent software update, so the PX4 Pro is best judged on what it does now—not on the hope that firmware will transform it.
What the PX4 Pro is—and what its headline specifications mean
The PX4 Pro is an ultra-short-throw (UST) projector intended to sit close to the wall or screen, not a conventional projector designed to be placed at the back of a room. Hisense Singapore lists a 0.2 throw ratio and an image range of 80 to 200 inches. The screen is sold separately on that regional product page, so a compatible UST screen and a suitable installation are part of the real setup. Hisense Singapore’s PX4 Pro specifications
Hisense lists 3,500 ANSI lumens, 118% BT.2020 and 6,500:1 contrast at Iris Level 7. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of performance in every mode or room. The RGB triple-laser light source and wide-gamut claim point to color as a major strength, but they do not guarantee accurate color out of the box. Hisense Singapore also lists 4K UHD resolution; RTINGS describes the image as pixel-shift 4K DLP rather than native 4K. RTINGS’ review

How good is the picture?
RTINGS found the PX4 Pro’s picture strongest in dark scenes, reporting deep blacks and superb color volume. It also found raised blacks in brighter content, inaccurate color before calibration and a noticeable rainbow effect. That combination matters: vivid color and strong dark-room performance do not mean the projector delivers consistently deep blacks or accurate color in every scene and setup. RTINGS
What Hi-Fi reported that its initial image looked over-processed, with overbaked color and too much motion smoothing. Its reviewer improved the presentation by selecting Filmmaker Mode, Warm 2, dynamic tone mapping and Film motion. Treat that as one reviewer’s reported adjustment, not a universal best preset: room conditions, source material and individual preference can change what looks right. What Hi-Fi’s review

What calibration and an update might change
Picture processing, motion handling and calibration controls are areas where software settings or firmware could plausibly affect the experience. But the available sources do not identify a specific PX4 Pro firmware update or promise a fix for inaccurate out-of-box color, over-processing or raised blacks. Calibration may improve color accuracy; it cannot be assumed to eliminate every limitation reviewers observed.

The rainbow effect is tied to how viewers perceive the projector’s image, while the UST throw geometry and lack of optical zoom or lens shift are physical constraints. RTINGS also warns that keystone adjustment may not always work as intended. Firmware should not be treated as a substitute for checking placement, screen geometry or personal sensitivity to rainbow artifacts before buying. RTINGS

Gaming: 240 Hz is not 4K at 240 Hz
Hisense Singapore lists 4K at 60 Hz and 2K at 120 or 240 Hz, along with VRR, ALLM, FreeSync Premium, MEMC and input lag of at most 20 ms. The resolution qualifier is essential: the listed 240 Hz mode is 2K, not 4K. What Hi-Fi likewise describes 1080p/240Hz gaming. Check the documentation for your regional model and the capabilities of your source device before planning around a particular refresh rate. Hisense Singapore What Hi-Fi
Installation and smart-platform trade-offs
A 0.2 throw ratio and an 80–200-inch stated image range give the PX4 Pro a broad potential screen-size range, but they do not make placement effortless. RTINGS describes the unit as heavy and notes that it has no optical zoom or lens shift. Measure the projector’s intended position, screen size and furniture dimensions before purchase; do not assume keystone correction will compensate reliably for a poor physical alignment. The Singapore model lists VIDAA U9, while RTINGS identifies Google TV on the PX3 Pro. If the smart platform is important to you, compare the exact regional models and the apps and features you need rather than inferring platform parity from the product family. The same RTINGS comparison lists the PX3 Pro with a smaller stated 90–130-inch range and without an iris or VRR; regional variants may differ, so verify locally. RTINGS
Should you wait for a software update?
There is no verified update roadmap in the cited Hisense availability announcement or Singapore product page, and RTINGS’ page updates document changes to its review rather than a promised projector firmware fix. Hisense announced U.S. availability on July 21, 2026, but that announcement does not say a software release is coming or that one will address picture issues. That makes “one software update away from true splendor” a possibility, not a supported buying assumption. If the main concern is picture processing, look for a confirmed update notice for your exact regional model and verify what it changes. If your concern is rainbow sensitivity, placement flexibility or room geometry, those are not problems to defer to firmware.
Quick Recap
Who should consider the Hisense PX4 Pro?
- Consider it if you want a large UST image, value vivid color and dark-scene performance, and can calibrate the picture and plan the installation carefully.
- Look closely before committing if you are sensitive to rainbow artifacts, expect consistently low blacks in bright scenes, want accurate color without adjustment, or have limited space to position a heavy projector precisely.
- Verify before buying the regional specifications, included accessories, current local price, warranty, availability and screen requirements. Hisense’s U.S. store listing showed a $3,999.99 sale price against a $4,499.99 regular price and sold-out status when checked; these are volatile listing details, not a dependable current quote.
