The Hisense HRBF179B is a tall, narrow 179 L bar fridge with 156 L of fresh-food space and a 23 L zero-star ice-making compartment—not a conventional freezer. Its listed dimensions, ventilation gaps and manual-cycle defrost are important to check before buying. Manufacturer specifications make it a plausible secondary fridge for drinks and chilled food, but public independent-test information does not establish a performance score or recommendation.
What the Hisense HRBF179B offers
Hisense Australia lists the HRBF179B as a black, single-door bar fridge. The manufacturer describes a chiller zone, interior LED lighting and an XXL door balcony. Those features and its tall, narrow form may suit someone seeking extra chilled storage, but they are product claims rather than independently assessed usability findings.

Is the 23 L compartment a freezer?
It is described in the specifications as a 23 L “ice-making (Zero star)” compartment. That is not equivalent to a conventional freezer for storing frozen food over an extended period. If frozen-food capacity is essential, do not assume this compartment will meet that need; check the manufacturer’s documentation against the food and storage duration you have in mind.

How does defrosting work?
Hisense’s product page calls the feature semi-automatic defrosting, while the technical sheet lists the defrost cycle as manual. The descriptions should not be read as evidence that the fridge is frost-free. Consult the model’s current manual for operating and care instructions rather than assuming it never needs manual defrosting.
Will it fit your space?
The cabinet measures 515 mm wide, 1229 mm high and 514 mm deep. Hisense specifies ventilation clearance of 50 mm at each side, 50 mm at the rear and 100 mm above. Allow for those gaps in addition to the appliance’s dimensions.

- Measure the full installation space, including the specified ventilation gaps.
- Check the route into the room and whether the fridge can pass through doorways and around corners.
- Allow for the door to open where you plan to place it, and make sure shelves or nearby cabinetry will not obstruct access.

What does independent testing establish?
CHOICE’s public Hisense HRBF179B listing identifies 2026 as the year tested and displays claimed energy use, energy stars, warranty and capacity figures. Who should consider it?
Consider the HRBF179B if you want a tall, narrow secondary fridge and its 156 L of fresh-food capacity, door storage and chiller zone match what you need. That is a fit inferred from the published size and features, not a hands-on suitability test. Look elsewhere or investigate carefully if you need substantial frozen-food storage.
Before choosing, compare total and fresh-food capacity, the practical value of the freezer compartment, installation dimensions and clearances, energy claims, defrost method, warranty and the delivered price available to you. Hisense’s Australian page displayed A$499 when accessed on 7 October 2026; that snapshot is not a dependable current-market price. The listing also showed stock information that may change.

Verdict
The HRBF179B is best judged as a compact secondary fridge, not as a fridge-freezer replacement. Its published capacity breakdown and clearance requirements make it possible to assess whether it fits your space and routine, but the 23 L zero-star compartment limits its appeal for buyers who need meaningful frozen storage. Public CHOICE information does not provide enough detail to treat the model as independently recommended.
