Hideo Kojima was reported to have visited Sony City on October 13, 2026, wearing a Joy Division T-shirt. The Sony setting and the shirt prompted some fans to compare the image with Cyberpunk 2077 character Johnny Silverhand and Arasaka Tower. That comparison is fan interpretation: the available reports do not establish that Kojima intended a message or was referencing the game.
What was reported about Kojima’s Sony visit?
Instant Gaming News reported on October 13, 2026, that Kojima visited Sony City and shared photos. The outlet reproduced a short post attributed to him: “Visited Sony City.” The original post could not be independently retrieved, so the visit and wording are best described as reported rather than independently verified here. Instant Gaming News report
A Reddit discussion on the same date linked to an Instagram post attributed to Kojima and showed users joking about the visit. It documents that the discussion took place, but does not establish how widespread the reaction was. A handful of posts or jokes should not be treated as a broad consensus or a measurable trend. Why did fans bring up Johnny Silverhand and Arasaka Tower?
The reported image brought together two details that invite a pop-culture comparison: a visit to Sony’s corporate setting and a Joy Division shirt. Some viewers connected that combination to Johnny Silverhand, the anti-corporate figure in Cyberpunk 2077, and to Arasaka Tower, a symbol associated with the game’s fictional corporate power. ENMNEWS reported that fans made this comparison, but that does not show Kojima intended it. ENMNEWS report

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Sony City is a real-world location; Arasaka Tower and Silverhand belong to the game’s fiction. The resemblance is a joke or reading of the reported visual context—not evidence that Kojima was criticizing Sony, signaling a dispute, or referring to a specific game storyline. The comparison describes how viewers read the combination, not a documented link between the game and the visit.
Is the Joy Division shirt a Cyberpunk 2077 reference?
There is no confirmed evidence that it is. A 2008 GameSpot report identified Kojima as a Joy Division fan and described him wearing the band’s T-shirt while appearing in London. That earlier account makes an existing interest in the band a plausible explanation for the choice, but it does not identify the shirt worn in 2026 or establish why he wore it. GameSpot’s 2008 report

The current shirt’s exact model, maker, and seller have not been established. It should not be presented as a specific product or as proof of a deliberate reference. The historical report also does not establish that the 2026 shirt is the same design. A generic Joy Division T-shirt search may find related apparel, but there is no basis to call any listing the exact item Kojima wore.

The reported visit alone does not establish a new deal, reconciliation, or project announcement. The available coverage supports the visit report and the fan discussion; it does not independently corroborate broader claims about what the visit means for Kojima’s relationship with Sony or future work. A visit, by itself, is not an announcement of a business arrangement.

Kojima Productions describes itself as a Tokyo game-development studio led by Kojima and links to an official merchandise store. That company information does not clarify the purpose of the reported visit. The store is an official merchandise destination, but no affiliate arrangement or tracked referral link was verified. What can be said with confidence?
The careful takeaway is limited but clear: a secondary outlet reported a Sony City visit and attributed a brief post to Kojima; online users made a Johnny Silverhand and Arasaka Tower comparison; and a 2008 report had already connected Kojima with Joy Division. The shirt’s exact identity, the reason for wearing it, and any significance for Sony or a future project remain unconfirmed.

Is the shirt a Cyberpunk reference, and can I identify the exact one?
No confirmed evidence establishes a Cyberpunk 2077 reference. GameSpot reported in 2008 that Kojima was a Joy Division fan and had worn the band’s shirt, but the exact model, maker, and seller of the shirt in the 2026 report are unknown.
Does the reported visit mean Kojima has a new Sony deal or project?
The visit report does not establish a new deal, reconciliation, or project announcement. No such conclusion can be drawn from the reported visit alone.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Johnny Silverhand and Arasaka Tower comparison is a fan joke prompted by a reported Sony City visit and Joy Division shirt. Neither a deliberate Cyberpunk 2077 reference nor a new Sony project has been established.
