Google no longer calls the consumer integrations in Gemini “Extensions.” The current name is Connected Apps, and the list you see depends on your device, Gemini app, country, language, and account type.
There is also a separate feature called Gemini CLI extensions for developers working in a terminal. This guide covers both, but keeps them separate: a Connected App links Gemini to services such as Gmail, Spotify, or WhatsApp, while a CLI extension adds tools, commands, or context to the Gemini command-line application.
How to find Gemini Connected Apps
In the Gemini web app, open gemini.google.com, then:
- Click Settings & help at the bottom of the page.
- Select Connected Apps.
- If that option is not listed, open Personal Intelligence, then choose Connected Apps.
To connect or disconnect an app, find it in the list, turn it on or off, and follow the authorization prompts. You can also request a particular integration directly in a prompt by typing @, selecting the app, and clicking Submit. If the app is not connected yet, Gemini either connects it or asks you to grant permission.

Some services are available automatically and do not appear as ordinary Connected Apps. Gemini can use public information from Google Search, Google Flights, Google Hotels, Google Maps, and YouTube. Turning Connected Apps off does not disable that public-data access.

Google Messages is a separate case: it does not support Connected Apps in Gemini. If you cannot find an expected Messages integration in a particular account or setup, that is a product limitation rather than necessarily a permissions problem.
Device control

Utilities is primarily an Android device-control integration. It is not a general-purpose remote-control layer for every phone function.

Google Workspace
The Google Workspace app groups several Google productivity services rather than necessarily presenting each one as a separate switch:

Google Classroom is restricted to designated users aged 18 or older in Google Workspace for Education. It is enabled by default only for Education customers; an administrator can control whether users have access.

GitHub’s documented Gemini integration should not be described as unrestricted repository administration. Google documents importing a repository into a chat and asking questions about its code; that is not the same as granting Gemini permission to modify or administer repositories.

These are device-specific integrations, not a standard set available on every Android phone. A Samsung user and a Xiaomi user may therefore see different Connected Apps even when both are running the same broad version of Gemini.
What happens when Keep Activity is off?
Keep Activity changes Connected App availability, but not in the same way on every platform.

Personal information from services such as Maps, Flights, Hotels, or YouTube requires permission. The public-data integrations are also not switches that can be disabled from the Connected Apps screen.
Why an app may be missing
Google does not provide one universal Connected Apps list for every Gemini installation. A missing app can be caused by:
- the device or operating system;
- the Gemini app you are using, such as web, Android, or iOS;
- your country or language;
- your personal, work, school, or other account type;
- an administrator policy;
- Keep Activity being disabled on a platform where that prevents Connected Apps.
For example, WhatsApp is documented for Android phones and tablets, not as a universal Gemini integration. Similarly, manufacturer apps are limited to supported devices.
Work and school account restrictions
Work and school accounts use Workspace controls that are separate from the settings on a personal Google account. Workspace apps require Gemini conversation history to be enabled.

- Open Menu → Generative AI → Gemini app → Apps.
- Choose the relevant setting: Workspace apps, Classroom app, or Other Google apps.
- Click Save.
Changes can take up to 24 hours to apply. If Workspace apps are disabled, existing chats remain available, but Gemini cannot access additional Workspace information until the setting is restored.
There are also mobile restrictions. In the Google Workspace mobile app experience, work and school accounts cannot use Gems or Canvas. On Android, trying to use the Gemini mobile app inside an Android Work Profile redirects the user to the Gemini web app in a mobile browser.
Gemini CLI extensions are a different feature
If you found the term “Gemini extensions” in terminal documentation, that refers to Gemini CLI, not the consumer Connected Apps screen. CLI extensions can add MCP servers, context, custom slash commands, and other developer-oriented functionality.
List and manage CLI extensions
Inside an interactive Gemini CLI session, list installed extensions with:

gemini extensions update --allValid disable/enable scopes are user and workspace. The install source can be a GitHub URL or a local path. Installing from GitHub requires git to be installed.

Create or link a CLI extension
To create an extension from a template:

gemini extensions link <path>CLI extensions load from <home>/.gemini/extensions and must have a gemini-extension.json manifest at their root. Custom commands live in a commands/ directory: commands/deploy.toml creates /deploy, while commands/gcs/sync.toml creates /gcs:sync.
Restart the CLI session after adding or updating an extension. Management changes, including new slash commands, do not take effect in the current session.

Important CLI security behavior
CLI extensions do not inherit the entire shell environment. Gemini CLI passes standard safe variables and variables explicitly allowlisted in the manifest’s settings array.
Extension policy rules also cannot automatically approve tool calls or turn on “yolo” behavior. Gemini CLI ignores extension-supplied allow and yolo decisions for security. Extension-provided sub-agents are currently documented as a preview feature under active development.

FAQ
Are Gemini Extensions still called Extensions?
For the consumer Gemini web and mobile experience, Google’s current term is Connected Apps. Gemini CLI still uses the term extensions for its developer-focused terminal integrations.
How do I enable a Connected App in Gemini?
Go to gemini.google.com, click Settings & help, choose Connected Apps, find the service, turn it on, and complete the authorization prompts. If Connected Apps is not visible, check Personal Intelligence → Connected Apps.

Google documents WhatsApp Connected App support for Android phones and tablets. It is not a universal integration across the web app, iOS, and every account.

Do Google Flights, Hotels, Maps, and YouTube need to be enabled?
Gemini can automatically use public information from those services; they are not necessarily ordinary Connected Apps. Keep Activity must be on for public information from Flights, Hotels, Maps, and YouTube.
Can Gemini modify my GitHub repository?
Google’s current Connected Apps documentation describes importing a repository into a chat and asking questions about its code. It does not establish unrestricted repository modification or administration.
What happens to Connected Apps when Keep Activity is disabled?
They are unavailable on the Gemini web app, iOS, and smart watches. On Android, Utilities, Phone, Messages, and WhatsApp remain available as an intentional exception.

The Bottom Line
For most Gemini users, the feature formerly described as Gemini “extensions” is now Connected Apps. Open Settings & help → Connected Apps—or Personal Intelligence → Connected Apps—to see what your account and device support. The available choices range from Gmail and Drive to Spotify, Google Home, WhatsApp, shopping, travel, and manufacturer-specific Android apps.
Do not expect every service on every platform, and do not confuse these integrations with Gemini CLI extensions. The former connect Gemini to consumer and Workspace services; the latter install developer tools and commands in a terminal.
