Choose Hellraiser: Revival for first-person combat and graphic Cenobite horror, Silent Hill 2 for a slower psychological mystery, or Amnesia: The Bunker for scarce resources, stealth and emergent survival systems. They are not interchangeable versions of the same horror formula. Their viewpoints, progression, sources of fear and expectations of the player are fundamentally different.
This guide compares what each game is designed to make you do, the kind of tension it creates, and the practical details that matter before you buy. The comparison treats Hellraiser: Revival as the 2026 release, the modern Silent Hill 2 remake as Konami’s psychological-horror interpretation, and Amnesia: The Bunker as Frictional Games’ 2023 systems-driven survival game.

| Main source of fear | Cenobite mythology, body horror, cultists and violent encounters | Guilt, grief, memory, symbolism and manifestations of consciousness | Isolation, darkness, scarcity and an unpredictable pursuer |

| Best fit | Players who want explicit Hellraiser lore and visceral action | Players who want an interpretive character study and atmosphere | Players who enjoy experimentation, stealth and resource management |
The simplest dividing line is agency. Revival gives you more offensive agency: Aidan can combine earthly weapons with the Genesis Configuration. Silent Hill 2 gives the story and symbolism more control over the experience, asking you to interpret James Sunderland’s inner life. The Bunker gives you a hostile set of systems and asks you to improvise inside them.
Hellraiser: Revival: action horror built around the box
What the story is about
In Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, Aidan’s girlfriend Sunny activates the Genesis Configuration. The Cenobites tear her apart, and Aidan learns that her soul may still be recoverable. He must enter the Labyrinth and confront the Scarlet Church, its leader Marlowe, the Unworthy, Leviathan and other forces tied to the Hellraiser mythology.
#1 Best Overall
- Gorgeous Pixel Art & Animation: The game captures the essence of the Terrifier films with bright, cartoonish pixel art and fluid animations that vividly depict the gruesome action.
- Multiplayer Mayhem: Team up with up to 4 players for a chaotic local co-op experience. Work together—or against each other—in various game modes. Travel through multiple stages, each with different paths to explore and enemies to defeat. Prepare yourself for intense boss battles that will test your skills.
- Bloody Arsenal of Weapons: From chainsaws to cleavers, pick up a variety of weapons to turn your enemies into bloody pulp. Enjoy hilarious and gory attacks that make every fight as entertaining as it is brutal. The finishing moves are guaranteed to leave a gory delight impression! Relive the golden age of gaming with a glorious chiptune soundtrack that perfectly complements the retro aesthetic.
- Multiple Game Modes: With 6 different game modes, whether you're looking for a quick beat 'em up session or an extended challenge, there's a mode that fits your style.
- Languages: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (LATAM), and Spanish (Spain) in game text.
The game is a new story in the Hellraiser universe rather than a direct continuation of the films. Xbox Wire describes it as inspired by the first two Hellraiser movies. That makes it suitable for someone who wants recognizable Cenobite ideas without requiring the game to retell a film plot.
How it plays
PlayStation’s official description calls it “first-person action horror survival.” The emphasis is important: this is not a helpless-survivor game in which combat is an occasional emergency. Aidan uses conventional weapons alongside the Genesis Configuration’s powers, and the Steam listing frames the loop as harnessing the box while fighting “hell’s wretches, deviants, cultists, and even its most infernal priests.”
The box is both a narrative catalyst and a gameplay system. The available descriptions do not provide a complete ability list, so it is more accurate to say that the Configuration adds supernatural options to Aidan’s arsenal than to assign it specific attacks. Expect the game’s encounters to alternate between weapon handling and use of those abilities rather than treating the box as a purely cinematic prop.
World, tone and content
Locations include a labyrinthine Hellraiser setting and cult-controlled spaces. The threat is explicit and physical: pain-and-pleasure mythology, mutilated bodies, gore and hostile human and infernal enemies. The PS5 storefront lists blood, gore, intense violence, nudity, strong sexual content and drug use. Steam additionally identifies torture, consensual mutilation, BDSM practices, addiction, suicide and domestic abuse among its mature themes.

- This pack contains the first three chapters in the Poppy Playtime saga
- Each chapter features engaging new toy characters that can be either friend or foe
- Survive and progress by solving challenging puzzles
- Each game reveals to you a newly discovered area of the massive toy factory
- The Poppy Playtime Triple Pack includes a reversible coversheet and a Poppy Playtime sticker sheet
Those warnings are part of the buying decision, not background trivia. If your limit is psychological suggestion or implied violence, Revival is the least suitable of the three. If you specifically want Clive Barker’s extreme body-horror language translated into a first-person action game, it is the most direct match.
Release and edition information
Hellraiser: Revival launched on October 8, 2026, according to the July 16, 2026 PlayStation Blog post and the Steam listing. The PlayStation storefront lists a PS5 version, one-player mode, standard and deluxe editions, and both digital and physical launch availability. Steam lists Saber Interactive as developer and publisher, a demo and an 80 GB storage requirement.
The clearest physical purchase choice in this comparison is therefore Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival PS5. Do not assume that the edition structure, physical timing or storage requirement applies to either of the other games.
Silent Hill 2: the psychological and symbolic option
What the story is about
Konami’s remake follows James Sunderland, who travels to Silent Hill after receiving a mysterious letter from Mary, his wife who has been dead for years. The town’s fog, monsters and other manifestations are tied to James’s consciousness. Discovering what happened is inseparable from discovering what James is repressing.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
The original Silent Hill 2 released in 2001; Konami announced the remake on October 19, 2022. The remake is developed by Bloober Team, with Akira Yamaoka returning as composer and Masahiro Ito as artist. Those credits establish continuity with the series’ creative identity, but the key purchasing reason is the premise: this is psychological horror organized around a character’s guilt, grief and memory.
How it creates fear
Combat is present, but it is not the central fantasy. Weapons do not turn James into a power character, and the game’s tension comes from uncertainty about what the town means and what James will discover. Fog, environmental clues, puzzles and manifestations keep attention on interpretation rather than on clearing rooms.
That authored structure suits players who prefer a deliberate mystery with a defined emotional arc. The monsters are not simply a bestiary to defeat; Konami describes them as reworked manifestations of James’s consciousness. Their significance is therefore part of the investigation, even when the game asks you to fight them.

Choose Silent Hill 2 if you want a slower pace, a focused protagonist and symbolism that rewards reflection. It is the strongest fit for readers who would rather analyze why a place and its creatures exist than optimize ammunition or combine supernatural attacks.

- Featuring Burnhouse Lane, No Son of Mine, and Dagon: Complete Edition
- 5D Chess - Solve classic adventure-style inventory puzzles.
- Find the Truth Or Die In Shame and Terror - enjoy a hardcore survival horror experience.
- 100% faithful adaptations of Lovecraft's works brought to life through atmospheric voice acting
- Compact stories, each suitable for one gaming session
Choose something else if your priority is constant mechanical action, a sandbox that changes from run to run, or a clearly stated arsenal-and-upgrade loop. The available material supports its psychological-horror identity, not a claim that it offers the same systemic replayability as The Bunker or the same combat emphasis as Revival.
Amnesia: The Bunker: survival through power, scarcity and improvisation
The situation
Amnesia: The Bunker is Frictional Games’ 2023 first-person survival-horror game, released June 6, 2023. Henri Clément, a French soldier in World War I, is trapped underground with a photosensitive monster known as the Beast.
Henri’s immediate problem is not simply finding an exit. He must keep the bunker’s generator running, search for randomly placed resources and ration scarce ammunition. When the generator stops, darkness expands and the Beast hunts more actively, turning a maintenance failure into a direct escalation of danger.

Why its systems feel different
The bunker is semi-open rather than a fixed sequence of rooms. Frictional’s design goal is to reduce linearity and predictability through procedural generation and emergent gameplay. Resource locations can change, and the order in which you solve problems affects how much risk you carry into the next area.
Best Value
- A dark, enthralling 4-5 hour narrative to keep you hooked and guessing until the end. Gorgeous visuals as you traverse numerous and diverse environments, presented with a cinematic, film-like aesthetic. Ranged and melee combat with upgradeable weapons to help you survive your nightmarish journey.
- A stellar voice cast, starring Valerie Rose Lohman (What Remains of Edith Finch, Wolfenstein: Youngblood), Jonah Scott (Dying Light 2: Stay Human, Date Everything), and Aleks Le (Persona 3: Reload, Marvel Rivals, Ghost of Yotei).
- A beautifully dynamic and haunting soundtrack composed and performed by Jacob Noska, and Jonah Henthorne: members of the band Auric Echoes.
- The puzzles you encounter are more than your standard key hunt. Project Songbird rewards those with an eye for detail, making each puzzle a challenge of creativity and wits.
- The combat of Project Songbird offers a variety of approaches inspired by the classics of the survival horror genre. Melee and gunplay is slow and weighty, and ammo is incredibly scarce. However, combat isn't your only option, as you have a multitude of tools at your disposal to aid in sneaking past any creatures that wish to do you harm.
Weapons are intentionally limited. The revolver reloads slowly, and guns, grenades and flares can solve environmental problems as well as harm or distract threats: a shot may deal with a lock, while another item may address a fire hazard. Every expenditure therefore has an opportunity cost. Using ammunition to open a route can leave you less prepared for the Beast.
Who should choose it
Choose The Bunker if you enjoy making imperfect plans, testing the environment and adapting when a system behaves differently than expected. Its fear is practical: darkness, a dwindling generator, uncertain supplies and a pursuer whose behavior makes a safe route temporary.
It is a weaker fit if you want a strongly choreographed story, abundant combat or a mythology-centered spectacle. The official Frictional landing page is intentionally minimal, so detailed feature claims should come from the game’s established descriptions rather than assumptions about a larger franchise formula.
How the core choices compare
Combat and vulnerability
- Most combat-forward: Hellraiser: Revival. Weapons and Genesis Configuration abilities are central to Aidan’s progression through cult and infernal encounters.
- Combat in service of story: Silent Hill 2. Fighting exists within James’s investigation, but the psychological mystery remains the organizing principle.
- Combat as a scarce resource: Amnesia: The Bunker. Slow reloads, limited ammunition and alternative uses for weapons make avoidance and improvisation as important as shooting.
Exploration and pacing
Revival uses directed story locations, so choose it when you want the game to lead you through a Hellraiser narrative. Silent Hill 2 combines a foggy town and interiors with clues and puzzles, producing a measured investigative rhythm. The Bunker gives you a semi-open space in which generator status, resource placement and monster behavior can change the safest next move.
What kind of fear you are buying
| If you fear… | Best match | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Graphic bodies, pain and infernal imagery | Hellraiser: Revival | Its identity is built on Cenobite mythology, gore and direct encounters. |
| What a character may be hiding from himself | Silent Hill 2 | The town and its monsters externalize James’s consciousness. |
| Being trapped with too little light and too few supplies | Amnesia: The Bunker | Power management and scarcity intensify the Beast’s threat. |
Which one should you buy?
Pick Hellraiser: Revival when…
- You want first-person action rather than predominantly evasive survival.
- You specifically want a new Hellraiser-universe story inspired by the first two films.
- You are comfortable with explicit gore, torture themes, sexual content and body horror.
- You want supernatural abilities and earthly weapons in the same combat loop.
Pick Silent Hill 2 when…
- You value character psychology, symbolism and an authored mystery over systemic replayability.
- You prefer a third-person perspective and a slower investigative pace.
- You want the monsters to have thematic meaning tied to the protagonist.
- You are interested in James Sunderland’s relationship to Mary and the secrets behind his visit to Silent Hill.
Pick Amnesia: The Bunker when…
- You enjoy stealth, experimentation and solving problems with whatever is available.
- You want resource pressure where fuel, ammunition and light directly shape your choices.
- You prefer a semi-open environment and emergent encounters to a fixed sequence.
- You find an unpredictable pursuer more frightening than a large combat roster.
Practical facts before starting
| Game | Release information established here | Hardware or storage detail |
|---|---|---|
| Hellraiser: Revival | October 8, 2026; standard and deluxe editions; digital and physical launch availability | PS5 storefront listing; Steam lists an 80 GB requirement and a demo |
| Silent Hill 2 | Remake announced October 19, 2022; original released in 2001 | Specific current platform, edition and price details are not established in the supplied material |
| Amnesia: The Bunker | Released June 6, 2023 | Detailed platform, edition and price information is not established in the supplied material |
That distinction matters when shopping. The confirmed PS5 physical and edition information belongs to Revival; it should not be projected onto Silent Hill 2 or The Bunker without checking their current retailer or platform listings.
The bottom-line decision
There is no single winner independent of taste. Hellraiser: Revival is the best fit for action-oriented players who want Cenobite lore and graphic body horror. Silent Hill 2 is the best fit for a psychological, symbolic mystery centered on one damaged character. Amnesia: The Bunker is the best fit for players who want survival decisions to emerge from power, scarcity and an unpredictable enemy. Match the game to the kind of control you want: offensive power, interpretive investigation or improvisational survival.
