The Helio G91 is not a proven all-around speed upgrade over the Helio G85. Both are 4G MediaTek chips with the same CPU core families and Mali-G52 MC2 graphics, while G91’s clearest advertised differences are support for displays up to 90 Hz and a vendor-claimed 108 MP camera capability. Those are chip-level ceilings, not guarantees that a phone using G91 includes a 90 Hz screen or a 108 MP camera.

Is the Helio G91 faster?
The available benchmark results do not establish a dependable overall winner. NanoReview’s comparison page, accessed in 2026, reports G91 ahead in AnTuTu 11 and PCMark 3.0, but G85 ahead in Geekbench 6 CPU tests. These are aggregates drawn from different phone samples, not a controlled test using otherwise identical phones.

A separate listing from 91mobiles gives AnTuTu scores of 271,962 for G85 and 265,150 for G91, labeling each as the highest score recorded by a device with that chipset. What G91’s display and camera claims mean
90 Hz display support
G91 is listed with support for displays up to 2520 × 1080 at 90 Hz; G85’s infographic specifies FHD+ at 60 Hz. A chipset’s display support does not mean every phone using it has that refresh rate. Check the exact handset specification, since the phone’s panel determines what you see.

108 MP camera claim
MediaTek advertises G91 camera support up to 108 MP with in-sensor zoom, while its specifications list ISP modes of 64 MP and 16 MP + 16 MP. Treat 108 MP as a vendor capability claim, not evidence that every supported capture mode is identical or that a G91 phone has a 108 MP sensor. G85’s product material lists up to 48 MP single-camera support and a 16 MP + 16 MP dual-camera mode. The actual sensor, image processing, and camera implementation depend on the phone.
Gaming, heat, and battery life
The available comparisons do not provide controlled, same-platform measurements of sustained gaming frame rates, thermal throttling, power draw, or battery endurance for these chips. MediaTek’s 2020 G85 launch release described HyperEngine as dynamically managing CPU, GPU, and memory using power, thermal, and gameplay measurements; that is the manufacturer’s description, not independent proof of sustained performance in a particular handset. For gaming or battery expectations, look for testing of the exact phone model. Cooling, software, screen settings, battery capacity, and manufacturer tuning can all affect results; the chip name alone does not settle them.

If two phones are otherwise comparable, G91’s listed 90 Hz display capability and advertised 108 MP camera support may give manufacturers more options. The benchmark evidence does not justify choosing a phone solely because it uses G91. Compare the actual handset features that affect your use:

- Display refresh rate and resolution in the phone’s own specifications.
- Camera sensor and supported shooting modes, rather than the chipset’s headline ceiling alone.
- RAM, storage type and capacity, and software support.
- Independent testing of the exact model for gaming or battery life if those are priorities.
- Price and condition of the phone you are considering.
