The MediaTek Helio G85 is the stronger processor overall: it pairs newer CPU cores with a higher-specified GPU, and 91Mobiles lists higher benchmark results for it than for the Helio G35. The G35’s 2.3 GHz peak CPU clock is higher than the G85’s 2 GHz peak, but clock speed alone is misleading because the chips use different CPU cores.
What separates the Helio G85 and Helio G35?
The G85 combines two Arm Cortex-A75 cores, which can run up to 2 GHz, with six Cortex-A55 cores up to 1.8 GHz. The G35 uses eight Cortex-A53 cores up to 2.3 GHz. The G85’s mix of core designs gives it the stronger CPU specification despite its lower advertised peak clock.
The graphics hardware differs too: the G85 uses an Arm Mali-G52 MC2 GPU with a manufacturer-listed maximum frequency of 1 GHz; the G35 uses an IMG PowerVR GE8320 with a maximum frequency of 680 MHz. These specifications favor the G85, but they do not establish a particular game’s frame rate or guarantee sustained performance in a specific phone.

These are advertised platform capabilities, not a promise about every phone. A handset manufacturer chooses the actual RAM and storage configuration, supported network bands, and other components.

Which one is better for gaming?
The Helio G85 is the more capable choice on paper for gaming because its GPU specification is stronger and its CPU design is newer. That makes it the better bet between these two chipsets, but the processor name alone cannot predict how smoothly a particular game will run. The phone’s cooling, memory configuration, software, display resolution, and the game’s own demands all affect the experience.
No sourced gaming frame-rate or sustained-performance test is available here, so a specific FPS figure or guarantee would be unwarranted. When comparing phones, look for testing of the exact handset and game you care about rather than treating chipset specifications as a direct performance promise.
What do the listed benchmark results show?
91Mobiles’ comparison page, accessed in 2026, lists the following scores. They point in the same direction as the specifications: the G85 scores higher in each reported test.

These are 91Mobiles’ listed comparison figures, not guaranteed scores for every phone using either chip. The comparison does not provide enough test-protocol detail to confirm identical phones, software, cooling, or benchmark versions. Treat the numbers as an indication of the reported ranking, not as a universal percentage improvement in everyday speed.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which phone should you choose?
If two phones are otherwise comparable in price, condition, and configuration, the Helio G85 is the stronger chipset choice. But phones are more than their processors. Check the exact models and regional versions before deciding.
- Compare the actual price and condition of each phone.
- Check its RAM and storage capacity rather than assuming the chipset determines them.
- Compare the display, battery capacity, charging, and software-support information for the specific models.
- Confirm that the phone supports your carrier’s network bands in your country.
- For gaming, look for performance information about the exact phone and games you play; sustained results can depend on the handset’s implementation.
MediaTek’s official product pages describe chipset capabilities, while the phone maker determines the final device configuration. Neither a chipset specification nor a benchmark listing establishes a phone’s camera quality, battery life, network compatibility, or long-term support.
