To run the Hela demo as currently listed, plan on a 64-bit Windows PC with 16 GB of dual-channel memory, a GTX 1060 6 GB or Radeon RX 580 8 GB-class graphics card, and 15 GB of free storage. That minimum tier is explicitly limited to low settings at 1080p and 30 frames per second in split-screen. For the published high-quality 1440p targets, the recommended class is a Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 7800X3D paired with an RTX 3070 or Radeon RX 6700 XT. Epic Games Store and Steam list these demo requirements in 2026; the separate, much lower table on the Hela website should not be used for a current demo purchase decision.
This guide explains what each tier means for solo and local co-op play, how to check your PC, which settings to start with, and how to troubleshoot performance without promising an unverified frame rate on hardware that falls between the published tiers.
Hela demo requirements at a glance
The current demo-specific listings from Epic Games Store and Steam divide PCs into minimum and recommended tiers. Both retain 16 GB of dual-channel RAM; the major step up is processor and graphics performance.

What the minimum tier can realistically deliver
1080p single-player
The listings do not publish a separate minimum-spec solo benchmark. A PC close to the minimum should therefore begin at 1080p with the low preset and adjust upward only after checking frame-time consistency. There is no cited independent test that establishes a reliable solo frame rate for every GTX 1060- or RX 580-class system.
1080p split-screen
Epic gives a specific limitation: “When using a PC with minimum required specifications split-screen can only run in low graphics preset with 1080p @ 30 fps.” Treat that as the minimum-tier local co-op target. If split-screen stutters, keep the low preset, close other applications, and verify that the game is using the discrete GPU rather than integrated graphics.
Why 16 GB matters
Sixteen gigabytes is required in both published tiers, and the listings specify dual-channel operation. Two matched modules are preferable to one module of the same total capacity because single-channel memory can reduce CPU and integrated-memory bandwidth. The requirement does not state a particular memory speed, so buying a faster kit alone does not move a PC into the recommended graphics tier.

What the recommended tier is designed for
Solo play at 1440p
The recommended listing targets the high preset at 1440p and 40 fps for single-player. This is the clearest basis for choosing an RTX 3070- or RX 6700 XT-class GPU if your priority is a sharper image and a higher target than 1080p/30.
Local co-op at 1440p
At the same recommended tier, split-screen is listed at high preset, 1440p and 30 fps. The lower co-op target is intentional in the published specification: rendering two views and handling additional local players can cost more GPU and CPU time than solo play. Do not assume that a system meeting the recommended tier will deliver 40 fps in split-screen.
Hardware between the tiers
There is no complete graphics-menu breakdown or independent benchmark covering intermediate hardware in the cited material. A PC with, for example, a newer mid-range card but a weaker processor cannot be assigned a dependable frame rate from the tables alone. Use the minimum and recommended targets as boundaries, then test in the demo and tune resolution or preset based on observed frame pacing.

How to check whether your PC qualifies
- Confirm Windows architecture. Open Settings, select System, then About, and check System type. The demo listings specify 64-bit Windows 10 for minimum and 64-bit Windows 11 for recommended. A 32-bit installation does not satisfy either listing.
- Identify the processor. In Settings > System > About, read the processor model. Compare it with the Core i5-8600K/Ryzen 5 2600 minimum pair and the Core i7-12700K/Ryzen 7 7800X3D recommended pair. Model names are more useful than clock speed alone because core count, generation, and sustained boost behavior affect split-screen workloads.
- Check installed memory and channels. Windows shows total RAM in Settings > System > About; Task Manager’s Performance > Memory page can show slot usage. You need 16 GB configured for dual-channel operation. If only 8 GB is installed, adding memory is a prerequisite rather than a graphics-setting tweak.
- Check the discrete GPU and VRAM. Open Task Manager > Performance > GPU or run
dxdiagand inspect the display tab. The minimum comparison is GTX 1060 with 6 GB or RX 580 with 8 GB; the recommended comparison is RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT. Integrated graphics and cards with less video memory are below the listed minimum, even if the computer has a modern CPU. - Check free storage. The demo lists 15 GB. Leave additional room for Windows temporary files, shader caches, and updates so an almost-full drive does not interrupt installation or patching.
- Use the dedicated GPU on laptops. In Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics, add the demo executable and choose High performance if the laptop has switchable graphics. Keep the charger connected and select the manufacturer’s performance power mode while testing.
Starting settings for common goals
| Goal | Starting point | What to change first |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum-class PC, solo | 1080p, low preset | Keep the preset low; lower resolution or render scale only if frame pacing is unstable. |
| Minimum-class PC, split-screen | 1080p, low preset, 30 fps target | Do not raise the preset before achieving stable frame times; close overlays and background capture tools. |
| Recommended-class PC, solo | 1440p, high preset, 40 fps target | If performance dips, reduce expensive effects or resolution before lowering texture quality, provided VRAM is sufficient. |
| Recommended-class PC, split-screen | 1440p, high preset, 30 fps target | Use the co-op target as the reference; a solo 40-fps result does not carry over automatically. |
The cited pages do not document every exposed graphics-menu option, exact render-scale limits, or whether a particular upscaler can be toggled in the user interface. SteamDB detects Unreal Engine and software-development-kit components associated with AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS in the October 8, 2026 demo release, but that detection does not prove that both options are available as selectable settings. Use only controls that appear in your installed build.
Split-screen, online co-op and controllers
Steam lists single-player, online co-op, and local shared/split-screen co-op. It also lists full controller support and notes that the developers recommend playing with a controller. A controller is therefore the safest input choice for couch co-op, while keyboard and mouse availability should be verified in the active build rather than assumed for every player.
Local co-op has a distinct performance cost in the official targets. On minimum hardware it is restricted to low, 1080p and 30 fps; on recommended hardware it is high, 1440p and 30 fps. When planning a living-room setup, budget for the co-op target instead of the solo target and connect all controllers before launching so each profile can be assigned cleanly.

The Hela website table conflicts with the demo listings
The official Hela website displays another table: Windows 10 64-bit, 4 GB of RAM, an RX 560 and 4 GB of storage as minimum; Windows 11 64-bit, 5 GB of RAM, an RX 560 and 4 GB of SSD storage as recommended. Those figures conflict with the dated 2026 Epic Games Store and Steam demo listings, which require 16 GB of RAM and 15 GB of storage and specify different GPUs and CPUs.
The website table may describe a different build or be stale. For downloading and upgrading specifically for the demo, use the Epic/Steam requirements above. If a store page changes, check its date and scope before treating a revised number as a general requirement for the full game.

Choosing an upgrade when your PC falls short
Start with the GPU class
Graphics hardware is the largest published distinction between tiers. A GTX 1060/RX 580-class card is the minimum reference for 1080p low, while an RTX 3070/RX 6700 XT-class card is the reference for high 1440p targets. Compare actual GPU model and VRAM before considering cosmetic features or a small CPU frequency difference.

Then check CPU headroom
The recommended processors are substantially newer and faster than the minimum pair. This matters most in split-screen, where simulation and rendering work increase together. Pairing a recommended GPU with a minimum-era CPU can produce uneven frame times even when average GPU utilization looks moderate.
Do not undersize memory or storage
Plan for 16 GB in two-channel configuration and at least 15 GB of free disk space. These are requirements shared by the current tiers, not optional extras that can be traded for a faster graphics card.
Troubleshooting poor performance
The game starts but runs below target
- Confirm the monitor resolution and refresh settings, then select the low or high preset appropriate to your tier.
- Check Task Manager to ensure the dedicated GPU is active and that another application is not consuming most of the CPU, RAM or VRAM.
- Test solo and split-screen separately. A drop that appears only in co-op is consistent with the lower published split-screen targets.
- Update graphics drivers from the GPU manufacturer’s official channel and restart before retesting.
Stutter, hitching or shader pauses
- Install the demo on a drive with more than the bare 15 GB requirement available.
- Allow the first run to complete any shader preparation, then retest the same scene.
- Disable recording overlays and unnecessary launchers while diagnosing frame-time spikes.
- If the menu exposes an upscaling option, change one setting at a time and compare image quality and frame pacing; do not assume an SDK detected by SteamDB is user-selectable.
Split-screen will not hold 30 fps
On a minimum-class PC, 30 fps at 1080p and low is the stated ceiling for split-screen. Verify dual-channel 16 GB memory, use the dedicated GPU, close background tasks and keep the low preset. If those checks do not help, the hardware may be below the effective minimum despite meeting one component’s model number.
Installation or launch errors
- Verify the installation files through the store client.
- Make sure Windows is 64-bit and fully updated.
- Reinstall or repair the current GPU driver.
- Check that the system drive has room beyond the 15 GB package requirement for temporary files.
Bottom line for your purchase decision
Use the 16 GB, GTX 1060/RX 580-class Windows 10 specification as the floor for a 1080p low experience, with 30 fps explicitly applying to minimum-tier split-screen. Choose the i7-12700K/Ryzen 7 7800X3D and RTX 3070/RX 6700 XT class when your goal is the published high 1440p target—40 fps solo or 30 fps in split-screen. Because no complete menu settings or intermediate benchmarks are published, treat PCs between those tiers as test-and-tune cases rather than guaranteed performance matches.
