Hela’s demo is a self-contained adventure that takes roughly 30–60 minutes for most players, depending on how thoroughly they explore. It can be played alone or in two-player local split-screen, and it introduces the Froggy backpack, environmental puzzles, glimmer gathering and the Shade System. The demo does not have a published save-transfer policy, so progress should be treated as separate from the planned full game.
The full release is planned for December 1, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. It is intended to expand the demo into a larger open world with more quests, Brewing and Remedies, a richer story and online co-op for up to four players.
How long does the Hela demo take?
Plan for about 30 to 60 minutes. That figure comes from Inven Global’s 2026 estimate and is an observed range rather than a time limit or developer guarantee. Players who move directly from objective to objective will finish sooner; those who investigate the environment and experiment with traversal can spend longer in the area.

Instead, it uses a bespoke map built for the demo, with its own contained objective and conclusion.

What changes the playtime?
- Exploration: Looking around the Northern Sweden-inspired setting and testing alternate routes takes longer than following the obvious path.
- Puzzle experimentation: The Froggy backpack supports environmental interaction, so trying different ways to manipulate objects can add time.
- Co-op coordination: A second player may solve some interactions quickly or spend time experimenting together.
Because the estimate is not an official completion target, it is more useful as a planning range than as a promise about the exact number of minutes every player will receive.
What is included in the demo?
The demo centers on restoring a witch’s protective magic in one forest area. You gather enough glimmer to return to her cottage while learning how Hela’s traversal and puzzle interactions work.
The Froggy backpack
The Froggy backpack is the main interaction tool in the demo. It is used to collect items, manipulate parts of the environment, solve puzzles and uncover movement possibilities. The demo’s challenges are designed to teach those uses through play rather than through a combat tutorial.
A Northern Sweden-inspired setting
The environment draws on Northern Sweden for its visual and atmospheric identity. The demo does not attempt to represent the complete world planned for the finished game; it gives you one deliberately constructed forest space in which to learn the core ideas.
A peaceful objective instead of combat
Hela is built around exploration, cooperation and acts of help. The demo has no traditional combat system. Its tension comes from navigation, environmental problems and figuring out how to restore the protective magic.
Can you play the Hela demo solo?
Yes. Solo play is supported. Hela’s Shade System lets one player create magical copies that assist with puzzles and interactions normally designed for multiple characters. Xbox Wire describes the system as a way for a solo player to handle traversal and puzzle challenges without needing another person present.

This is more than a difficulty toggle: it is a built-in solution for puzzles that depend on several characters acting in sequence or at the same time. The official developer FAQ also says every puzzle in the full game can be completed solo, so the cooperative design is not intended to block a single-player campaign.

Does the Hela demo support split-screen or online co-op?
Local split-screen in the demo
The demo supports two-player local split-screen. Two people can share the same system and work through the forest objective together. This is the multiplayer mode confirmed for the demo itself.
Online co-op in the full game
The planned full game expands multiplayer to online co-op for up to four players. Solo play and local split-screen are also planned to remain available. The four-player online feature is listed as a full-game addition, not as a mode promised for the demo.
That distinction matters if you are deciding how to try Hela: the demo is suitable for a solo session or a same-room two-player session, while a larger group will need to wait for the complete release.
Does Hela demo progress carry over to the full game?
Save transfer has not been announced in the available official documentation. The official Xbox description labels the demo a self-contained story, and neither the searched Steam pages nor the developer FAQ states that demo saves, unlocks or collectibles transfer to the finished game.
Do not assume that completing the demo will unlock items or skip an opening section in the full release. The accurate position is that continuity is unconfirmed. If the developers publish a transfer policy later, that policy should take precedence over any assumption based on the demo’s save behavior.

What accessibility features are confirmed?
The confirmed design features are primarily about how the game can be played, rather than a published inventory of formal accessibility settings.
- No traditional combat: The official FAQ presents Hela as a relaxed exploration and cooperation experience, without a conventional combat loop.
- Solo support through Shades: The Shade System supplies magical copies for puzzles and traversal that might otherwise require multiple characters.
- Controller support on Steam: The Steam listing identifies full controller support.
What has not been documented?
The searched official materials do not provide a complete list of subtitle controls, key or button remapping, color-vision modes, text scaling, audio sliders, contrast options or difficulty settings. Their absence from the published information does not prove that those options will not exist; it means they should not be presented as confirmed features.
If you require a particular accommodation, check the platform listing and the developer’s latest FAQ or support information close to release. At present, the reliable information is the non-combat structure, the solo Shade System and Steam’s full-controller-support label.
How does the demo compare with the planned full game?

The demo therefore functions as an introduction to the game’s interaction model, not as a miniature version of the entire campaign. Its single forest and short objective cannot represent the scale, quest variety or progression systems planned for the full release.
What are Brewing and Remedies?
The full game’s progression is built around gathering ingredients and brewing Remedies. Xbox Wire explains that Remedies expand movement, puzzle-solving and environmental interaction. In practical terms, they are intended to give exploration a growing set of possibilities rather than serving as a conventional weapon or combat upgrade.
Brewing is listed among the systems absent from the demo but planned for the full game. The demo can show you how Hela asks you to observe a space, collect useful materials and test interactions; the finished game is expected to connect those activities to a broader ingredient-and-remedy progression loop.

How open-ended is the full game?
The developer FAQ describes Hela as open-world and nonlinear. Players are meant to explore at their own pace rather than follow one mandatory sequence of objectives. The full journey is described as leading to a handcrafted ending that remains the same for every player.
That combination means the route through the world can differ, even though the final destination is not presented as a branching set of alternate endings. The larger map, additional quests and acts of kindness are the main ways the full game broadens what the demo introduces.
When does Hela release, and on which platforms?
Hela: of Mice & Magic is planned for December 1, 2026. The announced platforms are:
- PC
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Nintendo Switch 2
This is a planned date, so platform storefronts and the developer’s announcements remain the appropriate places to verify launch timing if plans change.

Xbox Series S and PC are described as digital-only in the announcement. The physical-edition information does not apply to those formats, while the listed console versions are the ones identified for the boxed release.

Who should try the demo?
The demo is a good fit if you want to evaluate Hela’s relaxed, puzzle-focused structure before the larger release. It lets you see whether you enjoy:
- Exploring a compact natural environment without traditional combat
- Using a backpack-based interaction system to gather and manipulate objects
- Solving environmental puzzles alone or with a local partner
- Learning movement and cooperation systems at your own pace
It is less useful as a measure of the finished game’s total scale. The open world, broader quest structure, Brewing, Remedies and four-player online co-op are planned additions, so the short demo cannot answer how those systems will feel over a complete campaign.
