Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling has modest published requirements. A basic Windows or SteamOS/Linux computer with an older dual-core processor, 4 GB of memory and integrated graphics meets the minimum specification; the recommended tier remains low by current PC standards. The game is planned for December 2026, and a downloadable demo is available on Steam, but requirements and compatibility can still change before launch.

Requirements at a glance

The official Steam listing separates requirements by Windows, macOS and SteamOS/Linux. The Windows and SteamOS/Linux tiers are identical, while macOS asks for more memory and a larger storage allocation.

Platform Minimum Recommended
Windows PC Windows 10; Intel Core 2 Duo; 4 GB RAM; integrated graphics such as Intel HD 3000; DirectX 11; 300 MB available storage Windows 10; Intel Core i3; 8 GB RAM; dedicated graphics such as NVIDIA GTX 650; DirectX 11; 300 MB available storage
macOS macOS 11 or newer; Intel Core i5 or Apple M1; 8 GB RAM; Intel Iris or AMD Radeon Pro graphics; 400 MB storage macOS 12 or newer; Apple M1 or Intel Core i7; 16 GB RAM; Apple Silicon GPU or AMD Radeon Pro 5300M; 400 MB storage
SteamOS/Linux SteamOS or Ubuntu 20.04 (64-bit); Intel Core 2 Duo; 4 GB RAM; integrated graphics such as Intel HD 3000; 300 MB storage SteamOS or Ubuntu 20.04 (64-bit); Intel Core i3; 8 GB RAM; dedicated graphics such as NVIDIA GTX 650; 300 MB storage

These are the specifications shown in the official Steam system-requirements panel, accessed October 16, 2026. They describe supported hardware tiers, not measured frame rates or image-quality targets.

Windows PC requirements

Minimum specification

The minimum Windows configuration is Windows 10 with an Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB of RAM, integrated graphics comparable to Intel HD 3000, DirectX 11 support and 300 MB of free storage. This is an unusually light requirement for a modern PC release. Office laptops and older desktops may qualify if their graphics driver exposes DirectX 11 correctly and the machine is running a 64-bit-capable Windows installation.

  • 6 nm AMD APU, CPU: Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz (up to 448 GFlops FP32

Meeting a minimum specification means the game should be able to start within the developer’s target range; it does not promise a particular frame rate, resolution, loading time or visual preset. Integrated graphics also share system memory, so a computer with many browser tabs, recording software or other applications open may have less headroom than its installed RAM suggests.

Recommended specification

The recommended Windows tier moves to an Intel Core i3, 8 GB of RAM and a dedicated GPU in the class of an NVIDIA GTX 650. DirectX 11 and Windows 10 remain the stated software baseline, and the listed storage allocation does not increase. A dedicated graphics processor gives the game its own video-memory resources instead of borrowing from system RAM, which is the main reason to prefer this tier for steadier play.

The GTX 650 example is a class reference, not a requirement for a particular manufacturer model. Newer entry-level GPUs normally exceed that age and feature level, but the exact result depends on drivers, laptop power limits and the rest of the system. The listing does not publish a target resolution, quality preset or frame-rate floor, so those details should not be inferred from the word “recommended.”

macOS requirements

Minimum configuration

On Mac, the minimum is macOS 11 or newer, an Intel Core i5 or Apple M1 processor, 8 GB of RAM, Intel Iris or AMD Radeon Pro graphics and 400 MB of storage. Apple Silicon and Intel Macs are both represented, so ownership of an M1 Mac is not mandatory. The operating-system version is part of the requirement: a capable processor running an older macOS release may still fall outside the published support range.

Recommended configuration

The recommended Mac tier raises the operating system to macOS 12 or newer, the processor to Apple M1 or Intel Core i7, memory to 16 GB and graphics to an Apple Silicon GPU or AMD Radeon Pro 5300M. The 400 MB storage figure remains the same. The higher memory recommendation is useful on Macs that are also running creative applications, virtual machines or large numbers of background services, although the listing does not provide application-specific performance measurements.

Because the Mac requirements name both Apple Silicon and Intel graphics families, check the exact model rather than relying only on the MacBook or iMac product name. Use Apple menu → About This Mac to see the chip, memory and macOS version, then compare those fields with the table.

SteamOS, Linux and Steam Deck

What the Linux listing establishes

The SteamOS/Linux requirements match the Windows CPU, memory, graphics and storage tiers. The stated operating systems are SteamOS or Ubuntu 20.04 (64-bit). That makes the Linux entry directly relevant to Steam Deck, which runs a SteamOS-based Linux environment, as well as to desktop Linux users who stay close to the listed Ubuntu baseline.

The store’s Linux entry is evidence that the developer intends to support this platform family. It is not a guarantee that every distribution, graphics driver or compatibility layer will behave identically. If you use a different distribution, keep the system and GPU drivers current and use the downloadable demo as a practical compatibility check before release.

Steam Deck evidence and limits

The published requirements are light enough for Steam Deck to be a plausible platform, and SteamDB records full controller support together with Windows, macOS and Linux support in its configuration and platform metadata. However, the captured Steam store page does not show a title-specific Steam Deck Verified or Playable badge. Do not treat the Linux requirements as proof of certification.

Valve’s Steam Deck Verified program checks practical factors including default-resolution support, default settings and whether text is legible. A game can meet published PC requirements and still need control, display or launcher adjustments on the handheld. Check the compatibility badge on the store page and recent player reports again near the planned release date.

How a Steam Deck owner should evaluate the game

  1. Open the game’s Steam store page on the Deck or in the desktop client and look for the current compatibility badge.
  2. Install the downloadable demo, when available to you, and test the complete loop you care about: launching, navigating menus, reading dialogue, saving, waking the Deck from sleep and resuming play.
  3. Confirm that the controls are comfortable at the Deck’s default display settings. SteamDB’s full-controller-support entry is encouraging, but it does not replace hands-on testing of text size and menus.
  4. Recheck the store page after updates. The game is planned for December 2026, so certification and compatibility information may change before the full release.

PC versus Steam Deck: what the requirements mean

Comparison point Windows PC Steam Deck
Operating system Windows 10 and DirectX 11 are listed. SteamOS is covered by the SteamOS/Linux listing.
Processor and graphics headroom You can choose hardware above the minimum and recommended examples. Hardware is fixed, so the question is practical compatibility rather than upgrading a component.
Memory The listing has separate 4 GB minimum and 8 GB recommended tiers. The Linux requirements use the same tiers, but the Deck’s fixed memory is shared by the system and graphics workload.
Storage footprint The listed Windows allocation is 300 MB. The Linux allocation is also 300 MB; leave additional free space for Steam’s download and update process.
Controls Keyboard and mouse operation is the normal PC setup, with any controller behavior depending on the game build. SteamDB records full controller support.
Verified/Playable status Steam Deck badges do not apply to a conventional Windows installation. No title-specific Verified or Playable badge is established in the accessed store evidence.

The comparison is therefore less about raw minimum specifications than about flexibility. A desktop or laptop can add memory, change graphics settings and use different input devices. A Deck owner should focus on the live badge, demo behavior, readable text and reliable suspend/resume operation.

Release status, demo and game scope

Steam lists Humble Reeds as developer and publisher, with Vsoo Games (China) also listed as a publisher. The planned release window is December 2026; the full game is not yet available, while a downloadable demo is offered on the store page. The listing describes the project as “a cozy narrative sim where you care for goats, craft mountain goods, and help villagers rebuild their lives.” Its systems include branching dialogue, relationships, goat care, crafting, exploration, fishing and village rebuilding.

Best Value
Valve Steam Deck 1TB Upgraded Handheld Gaming Console with Carring case, 1280 x 800 OLED Display Silicone Soft Cover Protector & Joystic Cap & Tempered Glass Film Bundle
  • Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
  • Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
  • Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
  • Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
  • The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.

For the current release state, use the Steam store page to access the demo and wishlist controls. A demo is especially valuable here because the published figures are requirements, not independent benchmarks; it lets you check your own display, controls and stability without assuming that a specification table predicts every machine’s experience.

Graphics technology and what it does—and does not—tell you

Developer updates report a switch from Godot Forward+ to Compatibility mode so the game can support a wider range of systems. The team says the change made the demo run more smoothly on more machines. That is a developer statement about an implementation decision, not an independently measured frame-rate result. It should increase confidence that low-end hardware is part of the design target, but it cannot establish a universal performance level.

If the demo performs poorly, first verify that the game is using the intended GPU, update the graphics driver and close applications competing for memory. Then try the game’s available resolution or quality controls. Do not assume that lowering one setting will solve every issue: an old CPU, thermal throttling, a laptop’s battery mode or a driver problem can be the limiting factor.

How to check your computer before installing

Windows

  1. Press Windows key + R, enter dxdiag and press Enter.
  2. On the System tab, record the Windows version, processor and memory.
  3. Open the Display tab to identify the active GPU and confirm DirectX information.
  4. In File Explorer, right-click the drive where Steam is installed and choose Properties to check available space.
  5. Compare each item with the minimum row first. If all items meet the recommended row, you have more hardware headroom, but no published frame-rate guarantee.

macOS

  1. Choose Apple menu → About This Mac and note the macOS version, chip or processor, memory and graphics information.
  2. Use System Settings → General → Storage to verify free space on the installation volume.
  3. Compare the Mac’s operating system and hardware with the minimum and recommended rows, paying particular attention to whether the machine is Intel or Apple Silicon.

Steam Deck

  1. Open the store page in Steam and read the current compatibility badge rather than relying only on the Linux specification.
  2. Install and play the demo through the same control layout and display mode you plan to use for the full game.
  3. Test suspend/resume, text legibility and controller navigation, then check for updates before making a purchase decision.

Common requirement pitfalls

  • Confusing minimum with recommended: the minimum tier indicates the published entry point, while the recommended tier is the safer target for smoother operation and fewer compromises.
  • Ignoring the operating-system line: a processor and GPU can qualify while the installed Windows, macOS or Linux version does not.
  • Treating example GPUs as exact cutoffs: Intel HD 3000 and GTX 650 are examples of graphics level. Driver support, laptop power limits and architecture also matter.
  • Reading storage as the entire download footprint: 300 MB for Windows or SteamOS/Linux and 400 MB for macOS are the listed allocations. Steam may need additional working space while downloading or updating.
  • Assuming Linux support equals Deck certification: SteamOS/Linux support and a Verified badge are separate signals. Confirm the badge and test the demo.
  • Expecting a benchmark from a specification: no independent frame-rate, resolution or quality-setting test is established in the available official material.

Bottom line for each platform

  • Windows: older dual-core systems with integrated graphics are within the published minimum; a Core i3-class processor, 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 650-class dedicated GPU match the recommended tier.
  • macOS: support covers both Intel and Apple Silicon, with 8 GB as the minimum memory figure and 16 GB recommended.
  • SteamOS/Linux: the published tiers mirror Windows and make the game a reasonable candidate for Linux and Steam Deck, subject to distribution, driver and compatibility checks.
  • Steam Deck: controller support and light requirements are positive signs, but the captured listing does not establish Verified or Playable status. Use the badge and demo as the final checks.

Because the full release is scheduled for December 2026, revisit the Steam page near launch for any revised requirements, updated compatibility badge or changes introduced after the demo.
