How many people can play the physical board game?
Days of Wonder’s official product page and the core rulebook both specify a range of 1–6 players. That is the capacity of the base tabletop game, so six people can sit down as human drivers without adding another product.

With six people, every available driver position can be occupied by a human. This is the straightforward maximum-player setup for the tabletop edition. The published play time is about 60 minutes, although the actual evening can be longer when players are learning, discussing rules or running more than one race.

Groups below six
A smaller group does not need to leave the other positions empty. Automated Legends can be added as additional opponents, allowing two, three, four or five human players to race against a fuller field. This is especially useful when a group wants more traffic and competition than its human headcount would otherwise create.
The publisher’s product information describes the Legends Module as a way to add automated drivers both for solo games and for multiplayer games. The advanced rulebook provides the bot framework; the automated drivers are not extra human seats and do not require another person to manage a complete player turn.
Can you play Heat: Pedal to the Metal solo?
Yes. Solo tabletop play uses automated Legend drivers as opponents. Instead of requiring another person, the Legends Module supplies the automated competition needed to run a race.

- The base Heat: Pedal to the Metal board game.
- The Legends rules and components for automated drivers.
- A table space suitable for the normal race setup.
Heat: Legends is an expansion, not a stand-alone game. Its product page explicitly says that an original copy of Heat is required, so buying the expansion alone will not create a playable solo game.
Solo versus a small group
Legends serve two related purposes. In a solo race they are your opponents. In a multiplayer race they can fill open positions so that a small human group still has a competitive field. Decide how many human drivers are present first, then add only the automated positions you want; the purpose is to provide competition, not to change the physical game’s six-player limit.

Does the physical game include bots?
The base game is designed for human drivers, but the official Legends rules add automated drivers. In everyday terms, these are the game’s bots. They allow one person to race alone and let a smaller group add opponents without recruiting more players.
What “automated” means here
A Legend follows the procedures in the Legends rules rather than making decisions like a human at the table. The rules determine how that opponent participates, so players can administer the automated driver from the same table. Shared and split-screen PvP

Remote Play Together

What “mobile” may mean in search results
People sometimes use “mobile” to mean playing away from a tabletop, using a laptop, or accessing a digital game through a portable device. Can two people play?

Can three, four or five people play?

Yes. Six is the base physical game’s published maximum, so six humans can play the boxed game. The expansion is relevant when you want solo opponents or automated additions, not to unlock the sixth human seat.

Can more than six people play the board game?
