How big will Haunted Chocolatier be compared with Stardew Valley, and what will you do in it? Eric Barone says his next game is “way bigger” in specific areas—including maps, monsters, item-system depth and equipment slots—but he has not given counts or a playtime estimate. Its focus shifts from farming to running a chocolate shop, adventuring and combat. In an official update dated August 30, 2026, Barone said development was progressing but gave no release window.
How big will Haunted Chocolatier be compared with Stardew Valley?
Barone’s comparison is qualitative, not a measurement of the game’s total content or length. In a May 2026 GameSpot report on his Game Informer interview, he said: “It’s way bigger than Stardew Valley, at least in terms of the amount of maps, the amount of monsters, the depth to the whole item system, and all the equipment slots and all the stuff like this. Everything is cranked up.” (GameSpot)
That statement supports a comparison on four axes, but it does not establish how many maps, monsters or equipment slots the finished game will contain. Barone has not provided a numerical size estimate or a playtime figure in the cited material. “Bigger” should therefore be read as his description of scope in those systems, not as a promise that every aspect—or the hours needed to finish it—will exceed Stardew Valley.

The official FAQ describes Haunted Chocolatier as another “town game,” set in a new town where the player has a different way of living. Instead of centering the experience on a farm, the player’s main endeavor is a chocolate shop. Barone characterizes the game as more action-focused than Stardew Valley: “Haunted Chocolatier is more of an action-RPG compared to Stardew Valley.” (Official FAQ)

From farming and social life to adventuring and combat
October 2026 coverage of Barone’s GQ interview describes adventuring, finding equipment, growing more powerful, and fighting monsters and bosses as important parts of the game. Barone reportedly summed up the combat elements by saying, “There are monsters, there are boss fights.” The same report says he framed the game as appealing to Stardew players who enjoy going into the mines. Because this gameplay account is secondary reporting of an interview, it is best understood as a description of the intended direction, not a complete or final feature list. (GQ)
A darker setting, but not full horror
Barone has described a darker, somewhat creepy atmosphere involving ghosts, a haunted setting and a castle. He has also said he is not aiming to make a full horror game. The confirmed contrast is tonal: Haunted Chocolatier is meant to feel spookier than Stardew Valley, while its stated identity remains an action RPG and town game rather than pure horror.

Which platforms and modes are confirmed?
Barone’s official FAQ says PC is the only platform he is certain about. He intends to bring the game to other major platforms, but that intention is not the same as a confirmed platform list. The FAQ describes the game as single-player and says there are no current plans for multiplayer. (Official FAQ)
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Haunted Chocolatier connected to Stardew Valley?
They are separate games. Barone has rejected the idea that Stardew Valley updates are being used as a test bed for Haunted Chocolatier. The comparison between the titles is useful for understanding the shift in genre and scale, but it does not mean they share a development roadmap or that one is a continuation of the other.
