The available public materials do not establish that HashKey Exchange operates a publicly identifiable smart-contract system, and they do not include a contract inventory or independent smart-contract audit reports. They describe a Hong Kong virtual-asset exchange with centralized trading and custody services. That supports an analysis of its disclosed custody and blockchain-facing risk surface—not a code-level verdict about contracts that have not been identified.

Is HashKey Exchange a smart-contract platform or a centralized exchange?

HashKey Exchange describes itself as a Hong Kong virtual-asset trading platform. Its homepage describes fiat transfers, digital-asset trading pairs, segregated client funds, and insurance, and lists Type 1 and Type 7 SFC licences, a TCSP licence, and ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certifications. These are company disclosures, not an independent assessment of the exchange’s systems.

HashKey’s support article, dated January 14, 2025, describes services for retail and professional investors and discusses Type 1, Type 7, and AMLO virtual-asset trading-platform permissions. Licensing and geographic availability can change; the article does not by itself establish the current status of every permission or where the service is available today.

The distinction matters for security analysis. In a centralized exchange, users generally interact with platform accounts, trading services, and custody arrangements. Blockchain transactions are part of the service’s perimeter, but their existence does not prove that the exchange’s matching, account ledger, or custody system is implemented as smart contracts. The reviewed materials describe exchange services and custody; they do not publish Exchange-operated matching or custody contract code.

Does HashKey Exchange publish smart-contract audits?

The reviewed public sources do not identify Exchange-operated contract addresses or provide independent audit reports for such contracts. Without a verified contract inventory, source repository or verified bytecode, and deployment details, it is not possible to establish which contracts—if any—should be audited or to assess their code for vulnerabilities.

This is an evidence limit, not proof that HashKey Exchange has no contracts, that its systems are insecure, or that a particular contract has been exploited. The available material supports neither a finding of a smart-contract defect nor an assurance that Exchange-operated contracts are vulnerability-free.

How does HashKey Exchange say it stores customer crypto?

Exchange rules describe segregated custody

An accessible copy of the “HashKey PRO Exchange Rules” says client virtual assets are held in segregated accounts through an associated entity and describes hot and cold wallets. It states that no less than 98% of client virtual assets should be stored in cold storage, defined there as private keys kept offline. The document’s publication date is not clear in the accessible copy, so the figure should not be treated as a verified current policy without confirming that these are the applicable rules.

The same rules caution that virtual assets may not receive the same protections as securities under the cited Hong Kong statutes, and distinguish client money held overseas. These are important qualifications to the custody description; they do not independently validate how assets are held in practice.

Custody-provider disclosures describe controls, not Exchange implementation evidence

HashKey Custody’s official site describes multi-role and multi-user approvals, address whitelisting, risk controls, HSM-based key generation and storage, hot/cold wallet architecture, and operational logs. It also states support for 20+ blockchains and 500+ tokens, figures checked on October 7, 2026. These are vendor descriptions of the custody platform; they do not independently demonstrate that each control is configured in a particular way for HashKey Exchange or that any Exchange smart contract was audited.

HashKey’s May 2025 announcement of SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2 certifications describes controls relating to security, availability, confidentiality, financial reporting, and data integrity. The announcement says HashKey Custody Services Limited safeguards custodial client assets for HashKey Exchange. Such service and organizational controls are different from a published smart-contract audit: they do not establish that specific contract code was reviewed or is free from vulnerabilities.

Where would security review focus?

The following are investigation areas suggested by the disclosed service boundaries, not findings that vulnerabilities exist.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Custody entities and key control

  • Confirm which legal entity holds each asset and how the associated custody entity’s responsibilities relate to the exchange.
  • Request details on authorization roles and approval thresholds, key generation and backup, HSM configuration, recovery procedures, and separation of hot and cold storage.
  • Seek independent evidence of implementation and configuration. The public descriptions do not provide key-ceremony records or comparable configuration evidence.

Wallet operations and transaction authorization

  • Examine how deposit addresses are assigned and reconciled to customer accounts, and what controls authorize withdrawals.
  • Determine how whitelisting, transaction screening, policy enforcement, and exception handling work in ordinary operations and under emergency conditions.
  • Verify which roles can approve or override a transaction and how those actions are logged. The available disclosures mention custody and risk-control features but do not expose the operational procedures or code needed to verify them.

Blockchain and token interfaces

  • For every supported asset and network, review deposit-confirmation rules, handling of chain reorganizations, and the assumptions made about token contracts.
  • Assess how the service responds to token upgrades, freezes, forks, and other asset-specific events, and how withdrawals are constructed and failures handled on each network.
  • Ask for a current network and token inventory. The exchange rules discuss custody and handling of forks and other token events, but the reviewed material does not supply a full current inventory.

Centralized exchange services and fiat rails

Keep matching, account and ledger controls, internal transfers, and fiat rails distinct from on-chain contracts. The homepage describes fiat and digital-asset exchange services, while the rules describe client custody. Security review of the centralized platform may be important, but it is not interchangeable with a smart-contract audit.

Group-level plans and Exchange operations

Do not attribute every HashKey Group initiative to HashKey Exchange. A 2025 HKEX filing discusses an ETH vault and a healthcare asset-tokenization strategy, and says a transaction was executed through HashKey Exchange. It does not identify the Exchange as operator of the planned on-chain contracts, name deployed contract addresses, or provide an audit of those contracts.

What evidence would support a code-level assessment?

A useful contract review starts with a verified scope. Before drawing conclusions about smart-contract vulnerabilities, a reviewer would need:

  • A verified inventory of Exchange-operated contract addresses and the networks on which they are deployed.
  • Source repositories or verified bytecode that can be matched to deployed contracts.
  • Deployment, upgrade, and administrative authority details, including who can change contract behavior.
  • Independent audit reports with the contracts covered, review scope, and dates.
  • Current Exchange rules and supported network and token lists, so the code scope can be compared with the actual service.

Without those materials, the responsible conclusion is limited: public disclosures describe a centralized exchange and custody operation, but do not allow a public code-level assessment of an Exchange-operated smart-contract system.
