Hard Boiled earns a place among the most impressive 4K presentations I’ve encountered, with vivid color, fine texture and an immersive Cantonese Dolby Atmos option. That verdict applies to Arrow Video’s UK Limited Edition—not every release of the film—and reflects both the disc’s listed features and TechRadar reviewer James Davidson’s hands-on assessment.
What this review covers
This is a review of Arrow Video’s UK Hard Boiled Limited Edition 4K UHD. Arrow lists a 2160p presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR10 compatibility, alongside several audio and subtitle options. TechRadar’s review, published 28 August 2026, describes the picture and Cantonese Atmos track favorably. Those listening and viewing comments are reviewer impressions, not lab measurements or a guarantee of how the disc will look and sound on every setup.
Arrow’s UK product listing is the source for the format specifications; the findings below are attributed to Davidson’s review and AVForums’ comparison with the separate Shout! US release. Arrow Video’s UK listing · TechRadar’s review.
How the picture looks
Davidson praises the disc’s refined textures and vivid color, calling attention to visible skin detail, neon signs and the contrast between a dim jazz club and its lights. That combination makes the presentation feel alive without reducing the review to resolution alone: shadow and colored light help define the film’s atmosphere as well as its action.

Color preference is not universal. AVForums says Arrow’s UK grade can appear cooler and bluer than the Shout! US version, and treats the choice between them as a matter of perception. That distinction is about the respective editions and their grading, not a claim that one transfer is objectively correct for every viewer. AVForums’ Arrow UK versus Shout! US comparison.
Does the Arrow 4K have Dolby Atmos?
Yes. Arrow lists Cantonese Dolby Atmos as an option on the UK Limited Edition, as well as original lossless Cantonese mono and English mono. Davidson listened to the Cantonese Atmos track on a Samsung HW-Q990C 11.1.4-channel soundbar system. He reports spatially precise gunfire and ricochets, including bullets moving across the rear channels, with shell casings, dialogue and score remaining balanced amid the action.

He also notes that some explosions did not always resonate through that system’s subwoofer, which he attributed to the older mix. That is a listening impression on one stated setup; it is not an independent measurement or a promise of identical results on another sound system. AVForums identifies Atmos as an addition on Arrow’s UK release that is not present on Shout!’s US disc, so do not assume the US edition has the same soundtrack options.

What comes in the Limited Edition
The UK Limited Edition includes two discs: a 4K UHD disc with the feature and extras, and a Blu-ray containing additional extras. Its listed physical contents are a reversible sleeve, foldout poster, collector’s booklet and six artcards. Listed video extras include two new commentaries, two archival commentaries, deleted and extended scenes, trailers, an image gallery, interviews and a 2025 American Cinematheque Q&A with John Woo.
These contents describe Arrow’s listed Limited Edition package; do not assume a later standard edition includes the same physical items or bonus material without checking its own listing.

How it compares with the Shout! US release
The key practical differences established by the available comparison are the sound option and the image grade: Arrow’s UK disc adds Cantonese Atmos, while AVForums describes its grade as potentially cooler and bluer than Shout!’s US version. Which presentation looks preferable is subjective. The editions are distinct, so check the exact release rather than applying Arrow’s UK specifications to the US disc.

Should you buy Arrow’s UK Limited Edition?
It is an especially compelling choice if you want the Cantonese Atmos option, value a detailed, colorful HDR presentation, and want the listed Limited Edition extras and physical collectibles. If you prefer Cantonese mono, or your priority is a particular color grade, compare the actual UK and US editions rather than relying on the shared film title.

Arrow lists a UK release date of 30 March 2026. TechRadar reports that the standard edition arrived in July 2026. Stock and availability can change, so confirm the edition and current listing before ordering. The UK Limited Edition is listed as Region B; verify both the disc’s coding and your player’s compatibility, especially if you are buying or playing it outside the intended region.
