Hallowarrior turns a familiar besieged-home setup into a Halloween-set survival horror story about isolation, violence and the cost of fighting back. Milly Shapiro stars as Pumpkin, a survivor who has kept Halloween alive in a seemingly empty world—until scavengers arrive at her home.
What is Hallowarrior about?
Written and directed by Ben Sottak in his feature debut, Hallowarrior follows Pumpkin, who believes she is the last person alive after a humanity-ending plague. In her isolated home, she maintains Halloween rituals as a way to cope with being alone. When a group of scavengers turns up, what begins as an invitation becomes a fight to survive.
The film is an 80-minute US horror/thriller, listed by the 2026 Tribeca Festival in English. Its central conceit is a Halloween-decorated home under siege, with Pumpkin forced to decide how far she will go to defend it.
Is Hallowarrior like Home Alone?
There is a clear resemblance in the setup: someone inside a home faces intruders and must fight back. Tribeca-adjacent coverage and the SLASH Filmfestival program have used the Home Alone comparison to describe that premise. It is not a claim that the films share a genre or tone.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Hallowarrior is horror, and its violence carries emotional weight. In her review for Eye for Film, Jennie Kermode says the tone differs from Home Alone: Pumpkin is distressed by the prospect of killing and fears losing the companionship she may have found. Kermode praises the efficient early character work and pacing, while describing the ride as fun. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a measure of broader critical or audience consensus.
Who stars in Hallowarrior?
Milly Shapiro plays Pumpkin, and Shannyn Sossamon plays Thalia. Ajani Russell and AJ Bowen are also among the announced cast. Tribeca’s festival description praises Shapiro’s performance, but that promotional language should be distinguished from an independent review judgment.

What do critics and festivals say about Hallowarrior?
Tribeca describes the film as a “lean, mean and visceral” entry in the Halloween horror canon and calls it a brutal, crowd-pleasing love letter to Halloween. Those are festival-program descriptions, not evidence of a consensus or audience response. The SLASH Filmfestival program calls it a festive blend of Home Alone and survival horror, highlighting the confrontation between Shapiro and Sossamon.
Sottak described the film in AMC’s acquisition announcement as “a love letter to horror and Halloween, and I am thrilled that the film has found its home with a distributor whose brand is synonymous with both.”
