The Haier HRF520FHC is a 489L, non-plumbed French door refrigerator freezer with a refillable chilled-water tank, a three-setting adjustable drawer and a manual ice tray. Haier lists a 4.5-star energy rating and 336 kWh annual consumption. Its practical appeal is the relatively shallow cabinet and flexible storage; its main trade-offs are no automatic ice maker and limited independent performance evidence.

These capacity and energy figures are manufacturer-published, not independently verified test results. One retailer’s descriptive copy calls the model 492L, while its specification table agrees with Haier’s 489L figure; use the manufacturer’s figure when comparing models. Haier’s product page also carries a claim that the refrigerator won Finder’s “Best Energy Efficient French Door Fridge” award in 2021; this is a historical manufacturer claim, not a current award.
Will it fit your kitchen?
The cabinet measures 1725 mm high, 790 mm wide and 686 mm deep. Its depth is useful to check against the available space, but the listed measurement alone does not establish the installed clearance needed for ventilation or doors to open fully. Appliances Online says Haier advises 5 cm of clearance above and on either side; check the current user guide before relying on that retailer installation note.

- Measure the installation space, including ventilation clearance and room for the doors and freezer drawers to open.
- Check the delivery route through entrances, hallways and turns; cabinet dimensions do not include the space needed to manoeuvre it.
- Verify the model code and dimensions for the unit currently sold in your region, since Haier says specifications may change.
Water dispenser and ice: tank-fed water, manual ice
The door dispenser draws from a refillable internal tank, so the refrigerator does not need a plumbing connection. Appliances Online describes the tank as a manually filled 2.5L container and says it has no water filter. Haier’s guide describes it as “Cold water from the door with the refillable interior water tank.” That is a manufacturer feature description, not a claim of filtered water.
Ice is made using the manual ice tray listed in Haier’s guide. Appliances Online confirms there is no ice dispenser: the model dispenses water only, and ice must be made manually. If filtered water or automatic ice is important, check those exact features in the competing model’s specifications rather than assuming they come with a door dispenser.

Storage and adjustable temperature features
Haier lists three adjustable glass shelves, five door shelves, a full-width door shelf, humidity-controlled crisper bins and three freezer drawers. These describe the layout and adjustment options; they do not by themselves establish how well the refrigerator maintains temperature or preserves food.

My Zone drawer
The “My Zone adjustable temperature drawer with three settings” is Haier’s description of a compartment with selectable settings. Haier says it can be adjusted for uses such as chilling drinks or storing meat and seafood. The accessible specifications do not establish independently measured temperatures or temperature uniformity, so consult the current manual for the permitted settings and food-storage guidance.

Super Freeze and frost-free freezer
Haier says Super Freeze freezes food quickly; that is a manufacturer claim, not a measured result. The freezer is listed as frost-free, with three drawers for separating stored items.
Energy use, controls and warranty
Haier lists a 4.5-star energy rating and annual consumption of 336 kWh. No separate official energy-register result was available to corroborate those figures, so treat them as the manufacturer’s published values rather than an independent comparison. For a useful shortlist, compare energy figures on the same jurisdiction and test basis.

Other listed features include an external LED display, door alarm, LED interior lighting, fingerprint-resistant finish and R600a refrigerant. The warranty is two years for parts and labour, followed by an additional ten years covering compressor parts only. The longer compressor-parts term is not ten years of full-appliance coverage.

Who should consider the HRF520FHC?
The HRF520FHC is worth considering if you want a French door layout, a tank-fed chilled-water dispenser without plumbing, flexible storage and a relatively shallow listed depth. It is a weaker match if you expect an automatic ice maker, filtered water, or a long full-appliance warranty.
When comparing another French door refrigerator of similar width and capacity, check cabinet dimensions and installation clearances, usable fridge/freezer split, dispenser and filtration type, ice system, energy figures on a like-for-like basis, warranty coverage and current delivered price. Haier’s product page showed an outlet designation and required a postcode for delivery and stock information; any displayed price or availability should be checked locally rather than treated as a stable national offer.
