The Haier HRF340BS2 is a bottom-freezer refrigerator with a manual twist ice maker, but its published capacity figures vary by source and CHOICE lists the model as discontinued. Haier New Zealand’s guide dated 17 April 2026 specifies 303 L total capacity and dimensions of 1702 × 595 × 642 mm. Treat those as New Zealand guide figures, not a resolution of the conflicting listings.
What the HRF340BS2 is
Haier’s New Zealand quick reference guide describes the HRF340BS2 as a bottom-freezer refrigerator with a frost-free freezer, crisper bin, spill-proof safety-glass shelves, LED interior lighting, recessed handles and a manual twist ice maker with a collection bin. Its listed door hinge is on the right. The ice maker is not an automatic plumbed system. These are manufacturer-listed features, not independent performance findings. The capacity is not consistent across the available model documentation. CHOICE lists 342 L total, with 258 L claimed for the fridge and 84 L for the freezer. Haier Australia’s manual gives 342 L total gross volume, 308 L total storage, 253 L for the fresh-food compartment and 55 L for the freezer. The documents do not establish why those numbers differ; measurement conventions, regional variants or document revisions are possible explanations, not confirmed ones. For a New Zealand buyer, use the figures in Haier New Zealand’s dated guide and confirm the specification for the exact local unit.

CHOICE also lists 421 kWh/year, a 2.5-star rating, a two-year warranty and a $1,299 page price. The price is a value shown on its page, not a verified current offer. What the independent review does—and does not—show
CHOICE identifies the HRF340BS2 as a small (300–380 L) freezer-on-bottom refrigerator and reports a 2020 test year. Its public listing marks the model discontinued. The detailed Expert Rating, recommendation, temperature stability and evenness, temperature range, food-freshness results, heat-load processing, noise, 10-year running cost, reliability and owner-satisfaction results are members-only on the accessible page. The public information therefore confirms that an exact-model review exists, but does not support a conclusion that the refrigerator performed well or poorly on those measures.

Haier says its airflow system distributes air evenly through the refrigerator compartment. That is a manufacturer feature claim; it is not a substitute for publicly available independent temperature-performance results.

Will it fit your kitchen?
The New Zealand guide lists the appliance at 1702 mm high, 595 mm wide and 642 mm deep. Those are product dimensions, not a guarantee that it will fit a particular cabinet opening or delivery route. The Haier Australia manual, which covers HRF340BS2 and HRF340BW2, says the refrigerator is not designed for recessed installation. It calls for a hard, level floor, at least 50 mm between the refrigerator’s side and the wall, and enough room for the door to open fully. Check the latest installation instructions for your region and measure the whole path into the kitchen as well as the space where the unit will stand. Check before ordering or moving it
- Measure the opening and allow for the manual’s side clearance and the door’s full swing.
- Check the delivery route, including turns and doorways, against the appliance dimensions.
- Confirm the hinge direction and whether it works with nearby walls, counters and cabinetry.
- Plan for a hard, level floor and a freestanding installation rather than a recessed fit.
Setup, everyday operation and care
Haier’s manual advises running the refrigerator for two to three hours before loading food during setup. Its troubleshooting section says a newly delivered unit may take about 24 hours to cool completely. These are manual instructions, not measured results for a particular home. The manual also describes adjustable shelves, a removable vegetable crisper and cover, an ice cube tray and bin, two temperature controls and an automatic defrost timer.
The manual identifies vibration as a possible sign that the unit needs leveling or more even support. It also says warm cabinet surfaces and occasional defrost sounds can be normal. Before treating a sound or temperature as a fault, follow the manual’s troubleshooting guidance and check the appliance’s installation and settings.

For cleaning, the manual says to unplug the refrigerator first and not to splash water directly onto it. It directs that LED replacement be handled by the manufacturer or an authorized service agent and includes safety warnings about the R600a refrigerant circuit. Use the correct model and part identification, and rely on authorized service for work covered by those warnings.
Availability and who should consider it
CHOICE lists the HRF340BS2 as discontinued, so do not assume it is currently available from retailers. If you find one, verify the exact model, local electrical compatibility, condition, warranty and seller terms before buying. CHOICE’s listed price does not establish a current retail price.

The published feature set may suit someone seeking a bottom-freezer layout, frost-free freezer and simple manual ice making in a relatively narrow cabinet. Whether it is a good choice for your household cannot be determined from the public test information: key independent performance and reliability results are not available on the accessible CHOICE page. Use the capacity figure published for your region and compare the actual compartment split, fit and energy label with your needs.
