At Hexacon in Paris on October 16, 2026, security team Calif reportedly demonstrated an untethered jailbreak on an iPhone 18 Pro running iOS 27.0.1. After a complete restart, the phone returned to the lock screen, accepted its normal passcode, and restored root access without a computer.
What Calif showed at Hexacon
The demonstration involved rebooting the handset during a live presentation. The iPhone booted normally, displayed the lock screen, and became available after the presenter entered the device’s ordinary passcode. An SSH session then showed root privileges on the phone.
That sequence matters because an untethered jailbreak is expected to remain active through a restart. A tethered or semi-tethered jailbreak typically needs a computer or a manual utility step after every reboot; the reported Calif setup did not.

The reported technical snapshot identified the device as iPhone19,2, with a T8160 chip, iOS 27.0.1 build 24A446, and Darwin kernel 27.0.0. SSH was listening on port 2222, the shell reported uid=0, and 67 packages were installed through dpkg.

Reports noted roughly two minutes of uptime after the restart. That is a timestamp taken after boot, not evidence that the exploit itself takes exactly two minutes to run.
What the reboot proves—and what it does not
| Question | What the presentation established | What remains unestablished |
|---|---|---|
| Does the jailbreak persist after a restart? | Root access was reportedly available after a full reboot without reconnecting a computer. | Long-term reboot reliability, power-loss behavior, and recovery from failed boots were not shown. |
| Was the passcode bypassed? | No. The phone reached the lock screen and the normal passcode was entered. | There is no evidence of access to a stranger’s locked iPhone or a lock-screen bypass. |
| Can anyone install it? | No public installer or tool was released in the reporting. | Installation, signing, exploit steps, and safety checks are unavailable. |
| Which devices are supported? | The reported target was an iPhone 18 Pro on iOS 27.0.1. | Compatibility with iPhone 18 Pro Max, other iPhone 18 models, iPhone 17, or older hardware is unconfirmed. |
Why a modern jailbreak is technically difficult
Calif has not published the exploit chain or assigned CVE identifiers. Security coverage has discussed the classes of weaknesses a current jailbreak may need, but those are general requirements rather than confirmed components of this demonstration.
- Sandbox escape: breaking out of an app or restricted process.
- Kernel control: obtaining the level of control needed to change protected operating-system behavior.
- Pointer-authentication bypass: defeating a hardware-assisted protection used to validate code pointers on Apple silicon.
- Persistence: ensuring the modified state can be restored or retained after a restart.
Without technical disclosure, it is impossible to determine which vulnerabilities were used, whether they affect other iOS releases, or how Apple might address them.

There is no verified iOS 27 jailbreak download yet
No public exploit code, jailbreak application, or vulnerability details accompanied the reported stage demonstration. A website or app claiming to jailbreak iOS 27 should therefore be treated as unverified and potentially malicious until a reputable security source confirms its provenance and behavior.
Do not enter an Apple Account password, install an unknown configuration profile, disable device protections, or pay for a supposed Calif utility based solely on the stage report. The absence of a public tool also means there are no trustworthy installation instructions to follow.
How this fits the iPhone 18 Pro launch
Apple announced iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9, 2026, with availability beginning September 18. The phones ship with iOS 27, use the A20 Pro chip, and charge through USB-C.

Does the iOS 27.0.1 jailbreak survive a reboot?
The reported demonstration indicates that this specific setup restored root access after a complete restart without a computer. It does not establish reliability across every reboot, update, battery failure, or device configuration.
Was the passcode bypassed?
No. The presenter entered the phone’s normal passcode after the device returned to the lock screen. The presentation showed post-unlock root access, not unauthorized entry through the lock screen.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

That is unknown. Only the reported iPhone 18 Pro running iOS 27.0.1 was identified, so claims about earlier models or other versions need separate evidence.
What to check if a public release appears
A legitimate release should document the exact model identifiers and iOS builds, explain whether it is tethered or untethered, identify the vulnerabilities or provide a credible disclosure record, and describe signing, reboot behavior, failure recovery, and known risks. Until those details exist, the safest conclusion is that Calif demonstrated a significant research result, not a consumer-ready jailbreak.
