If you want one sim-racing shifter to work in both H-pattern and sequential modes, first check how it connects to your wheel and platform. The phrase “two-component H-shifter” is not a standardized product category; the practical choice is a dual-mode shifter with a connection path supported by your PC or console. Thrustmaster TH8A, Fanatec ClubSport Shifter SQ V1.5, and SHH HUBB document both modes, but their compatibility differs. MOZA HGP is an H-pattern-only comparison based on its official documentation.
Which shifter works with your platform and wheel?
Start with the platform you play on, then check your wheel-base ecosystem and the required cable or adapter. A shifter that supports both gear patterns is not automatically compatible with every wheel or console.
| Shifter | Modes and layout | PC connection | Console route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thrustmaster TH8A | H-pattern 7+1 and sequential (+/−), using the included shift plates | Thrustmaster recommends connecting directly to a Windows PC by USB. Its support guidance warns that connecting through a Thrustmaster wheel base on PC may enable only sequential mode. | Connect through a Thrustmaster base; check the manufacturer’s compatibility details. |
| Fanatec ClubSport Shifter SQ V1.5 | Seven forward gears and reverse with an inhibitor, plus sequential mode | Connect to a compatible Fanatec wheel base with a shifter port, or use the ClubSport USB Adapter to connect to a PC with another brand’s wheel. Verify current package contents before assuming the adapter is included. | Connect through a Fanatec wheel base or racing wheel. The USB Adapter is not a console connection route. |
| SHH HUBB | H-pattern and sequential modes; choose a 7+R, 6+R, or 5+R plate | PC-only; the product page lists a USB cable. | Not supported as a console option: the manufacturer labels this version PC-only. |
| MOZA HGP | 7+R H-pattern; the official support page does not describe a sequential mode | USB to PC, or RJ11 to a compatible MOZA wheel base | Console support is not stated on the cited product support page. |
Specifications and connection routes above are manufacturer-documented, not comparative hands-on test results. Check the current product page for regional compatibility details and package contents before buying.
How to choose based on your setup
If you play on a PC
All three documented dual-mode options have a PC connection route, but the details matter. For the TH8A, use direct USB if you want to avoid the mode limitation Thrustmaster warns about when routing through a wheel base. The Fanatec shifter can use a compatible Fanatec base or, with the ClubSport USB Adapter, a PC setup using another wheel brand. HUBB is a PC-only choice with a USB connection. MOZA HGP also connects by USB, but its cited documentation describes H-pattern operation rather than sequential shifting.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you play on a console
The cited guidance describes console routes through a compatible wheel ecosystem: Thrustmaster directs TH8A users to connect through a Thrustmaster base, while Fanatec specifies a Fanatec wheel base or racing wheel for the ClubSport Shifter. SHH labels HUBB PC-only. MOZA’s cited support page does not establish console support, so do not assume it works on a console.
If you want to use a different brand of wheel
For a PC setup, check whether the shifter can connect independently rather than relying on a proprietary wheel-base port. Fanatec documents its optional ClubSport USB Adapter for PC use with another brand’s wheel. TH8A’s manufacturer recommends direct USB on PC. SHH lists USB, and MOZA lists USB for PC. These are connection options, not guarantees that every game will recognize the shifter without configuration.

What the manufacturers document about each option
Thrustmaster TH8A
The TH8A includes shift plates for H-pattern (7+1) and sequential (+/−) use. Thrustmaster says it can be used with racing wheels on PC and provides separate console compatibility guidance. Its support page recommends the DIN/USB cable directly to a Windows PC; it cautions that the Mini-DIN/DIN connection through a wheel base on PC may enable only sequential mode. The manual describes PC USB as plug and play, while noting that some games may require an update or control mapping.

Fanatec ClubSport Shifter SQ V1.5
Fanatec lists seven forward gears, reverse with an inhibitor, and sequential mode. Its documentation describes PC operation through a Fanatec product with a shifter port, or through the optional ClubSport USB Adapter when using another brand’s wheel. Console operation uses a Fanatec wheel base or racing wheel; the adapter is not a console route. The product page lists H-pattern and sequential knobs and describes adapter and cables in the package, but contents can vary by regional listing, so confirm what is included with the actual offer.

SHH HUBB
SHH identifies HUBB as PC-only and documents H-pattern and sequential modes. Buyers select a 7+R, 6+R, or 5+R plate and a mount. The product page also lists long sequential and short H-pattern knobs, an adapter for commercial knobs, and a 180 cm USB cable. SHH describes reversible plates, mode locking, and independent H/SQ adjustment; these are manufacturer-stated features, not independently tested findings.

MOZA HGP
MOZA describes HGP as a 7+R H-pattern shifter. Its support page lists PC USB and RJ11 connection to a compatible MOZA wheel base, along with features including a non-contact 15-bit angle sensor and adjustable intelligent downshift throttle-blip system. The page does not identify HGP as a sequential-mode shifter, so treat it as an H-pattern option unless the manufacturer confirms otherwise for your exact model.

Check the gear layout, mounting, and game setup
- Forward gears and reverse: Choose a plate or layout that suits the cars you drive. HUBB offers 7+R, 6+R, and 5+R choices; the TH8A uses a 7+1 H-pattern plate; Fanatec lists seven forward gears and reverse; MOZA HGP is 7+R.
- Mount: Confirm the shifter can be secured to your rig or desk. HUBB asks buyers to select a mount; check the current listing and your rig’s mounting points for other models.
- Included parts: Regional package contents can differ. Verify the exact listing for adapters, cables, plates, knobs, and mounting hardware rather than relying on a general product description.
- Game recognition: Even a plug-and-play USB connection may require a game update or control mapping. Consult the shifter manual and the game’s input settings if the device connects but does not shift as expected.
A quick pre-purchase compatibility check
- Identify your platform: PC, PlayStation, or Xbox. Do not infer console support from a PC USB connection.
- Check the wheel-base route: Confirm whether the manufacturer requires a compatible base or supports direct USB for your platform.
- Confirm the desired modes: For both H-pattern and sequential shifting, select a model whose documentation explicitly lists both modes.
- Match the gate and reverse layout: Pick the available forward-gear count and reverse arrangement for your use.
- Verify the exact regional package: Check current compatibility notes, included cables or adapters, and mounting options before ordering.
- After connection, configure the game: If inputs are missing, check for a game update and assign the shifter controls in the game’s input menu.
