Guild Home Elite is contents insurance for eligible Australian renters, not a home warranty. It covers accidental loss or damage to contents in the home, subject to policy terms, exclusions and the cover shown on your schedule. Whether it suits you depends on the limits and options you need, your excess and the premium Guild quotes for your circumstances.
What Guild Home Elite covers for renters
Guild describes Home Elite as comprehensive cover. The July 2024 Home Elite Insurance PDS and Policy says contents in the home are covered for accidental loss or damage, except where the policy excludes it. A claim may be settled by repair, replacement or payment of reasonable repair or replacement costs, subject to the policy.
Flood is covered only if it is included on your policy schedule. Check the schedule rather than assuming flood cover is part of your policy.
Belongings away from home
The PDS also describes accidental loss or damage cover for unspecified personal property in Australia and for up to 90 consecutive days elsewhere. The stated limits are $2,500 per item, pair or set and $15,000 in total, unless belongings are insured as specified personal property. These are limits, not a guarantee that every item or cause of loss is covered; policy terms and exclusions still apply. See the PDS section on unspecified personal property and check how higher-value belongings should be listed on your schedule.

Liability
Legal liability is separate from cover for your belongings. The PDS states a maximum of $20 million for covered legal liability, subject to its terms and exclusions. CHOICE’s renter-specific summary says the policy includes renter liability relating to damage to landlord fixtures, fittings and contents. What the policy does not cover
The PDS lists exclusions and conditions that can rule out a claim even when damage seems accidental. Examples include wear and tear, depreciation, lack of maintenance, inherent defects, structural defects and faulty workmanship. The policy also has other exclusions, schedule limits and conditions, including a condition for homes unoccupied for 60 or more continuous days. How to assess whether it suits you
CHOICE describes the renters policy as sum-insured cover with accidental damage cover. Those labels do not establish that a particular sum insured is enough for your belongings or that every accidental event is covered. Estimate the replacement cost of your contents, then check the policy schedule and terms against the items and risks that matter to you.

- Contents amount and settlement: Check the sum insured and how repair, replacement or payment is determined.
- Accidental damage and flood: Confirm the scope of accidental-damage cover and whether flood appears as included on your schedule.
- Portable belongings: Compare the per-item and total limits for unspecified property with the value of items you take out of the home. Check whether valuable items need to be specified.
- Liability: Read the conditions and exclusions for covered legal liability, including the renter-related cover described by CHOICE.
- Other policy details: Compare temporary accommodation, excess, exclusions, eligibility and any other limits that affect your needs.

How much does Guild Home Elite cost?
There is no single general premium established by the public information. The amount you pay depends on your circumstances and policy choices, so obtain a quote from Guild and review the premium and excess information on Guild’s insurance disclosure documents page. Do not treat a regional price band as the price you will be offered.
When comparing quotes, use the same contents sum insured and compare the excess, location, options, limits, eligibility and exclusions—not just the premium or a headline liability limit. Confirm that any cover you need, especially flood or protection for higher-value belongings, is actually shown in the policy schedule.

Documents to check before buying
The cited policy terms are from Guild’s July 2024 PDS, and its target market determination is dated November 2023. Check Guild’s disclosure page for the current PDS and related documents before buying; policy terms, eligibility and underwriting determine what is available. Guild’s Home Insurance Target Market Determination says the products may only be sold by Guild Insurance and are subject to eligibility and underwriting.
