Realistic Driving V (RDV) is the better realism-first choice on paper. Its author says it rebuilds vehicle physics and surface behavior, including tire grip, traction, slip angle, off-road response and motorcycles. That makes it the stronger match for players seeking simulation-style behavior. However, no independent head-to-head test proves that RDV behaves more like real vehicles, and its documented support stops at GTA V version 1.50. Forza-Style Handling Overhaul instead targets quicker acceleration, higher speed, stronger grip, smoother cornering and less sliding, with explicit support for GTA V Legacy but not Enhanced. Your exact game build and the handling traits you value matter more than either mod’s name.
What “realistic” means in GTA V handling
There is no single realism slider for a game car. A handling overhaul can feel realistic in one respect and artificial in another. Before choosing a download, decide which behavior you want to change.

RDV and Forza-Style Handling Overhaul emphasize different columns in that table. RDV describes a physics and surface-response rebuild. Forza-Style describes a controlled, fast and low-slide driving experience. “More stable” or “more fun” is not automatically the same as “more physically accurate.”

What the author says it changes
Killatomate’s Realistic Driving V description says the mod changes GTA V driving physics “to be as realistic as possible.” It states that physics were created for each of 357 vehicles individually and highlights tire grip, traction, slip angle, surface properties, off-road behavior, motorcycles and vehicle-specific performance. The page also says automated braking is disabled.

Those claims make RDV the clearest realism-oriented design among the two options compared here. They indicate an attempt to model different vehicles and surfaces rather than applying one broad grip or speed adjustment. They remain author claims, not results from a published vehicle-dynamics test, so treat them as design intent rather than proof of real-world accuracy.
Coverage and exclusions
RDV was developed around vanilla GTA V 3D models. The description covers many standard cars and motorcycles but excludes heavy trucks, aircraft and boats. It warns that custom cars can handle noticeably worse when their mass centers or wheelbases differ from the original models. A custom vehicle may therefore undermine the behavior the mod was tuned to deliver even when installation is correct.
Version information
Version 2.5 of RDV lists full support for GTA V versions 1.36, 1.38, 1.39, 1.41 and 1.43, with upward compatibility through 1.50. The same page says the mod does not affect the latest downloadable-content vehicles. These are historical version notes, not a guarantee for a 2026 installation.

A mod that is theoretically the most realistic is not useful if it prevents the game from launching.

What the popularity numbers do—and do not—show
The RDV page displays 605,473 downloads, 2,053 likes and a 4.62/5 rating from 420 votes. Those figures show substantial community attention, but they do not measure tire accuracy, braking distance or correspondence with a real vehicle.
Forza-Style Handling Overhaul: controlled speed and grip
Its stated target
Forza-Style Handling Overhaul is described as a 54-vehicle pack tuned for a balance of speed, control, realism and fun. Its listed goals are faster acceleration, higher top speed, greater stability at speed, improved grip, smoother cornering and less random sliding.
This is a different proposition from RDV. The description prioritizes a predictable, high-performance feel. That can be preferable for highway driving, racing lines or controllers that make small steering corrections difficult. The same traits can also make a car less representative of a real road vehicle if the extra grip and stability remove natural weight transfer or breakaway behavior. The page does not establish that its tuning matches real-world specifications.
Vehicle and edition limits
The page presents the overhaul as covering 54 vehicles and explicitly supports GTA V Legacy. It says it is not made for GTA V Enhanced. Do not install it on Enhanced expecting a compatibility patch; choose a mod whose files and instructions target that edition instead.

Temporary and permanent installation
The mod page describes two approaches:
- Temporary testing: use the in-game handling editor described on the page to load the handling changes for a session. This lets you judge acceleration, grip and cornering before altering game files.
- Permanent installation: edit the GTA V files through OpenIV, following the mod’s file instructions and keeping a clean backup of every original file you replace.
The page warns that some vehicles have handling entries in more than one location. Editing only one entry can crash the game. If a vehicle appears in multiple handling sections, apply the change consistently as instructed rather than assuming the first matching line is sufficient.

Compatibility should decide the shortlist first
If you use GTA V Legacy
Both projects are at least aimed at the Legacy ecosystem, but their practical requirements differ. RDV’s listed support ends at 1.50, so compare that number with your installed build and read recent reports for your exact version. Forza-Style explicitly names Legacy as supported, yet you still need to follow its file structure and backup guidance.
If you use GTA V Enhanced
Exclude Forza-Style Handling Overhaul because its page says Enhanced is not supported. RDV’s available version notes also do not provide a current Enhanced guarantee. Do not infer compatibility from a mod working on another edition; Legacy and Enhanced can use different files, updates and script dependencies.

If your game recently updated
Freeze your working setup before experimenting. Record the game build, remove or disable other handling edits, and test one overhaul at a time. A crash after an update can come from a script dependency, an outdated file path or a conflict with another mod, not necessarily from the driving values themselves.

A safe way to install and evaluate a handling overhaul
- Identify the edition and build. Confirm whether the installation is Legacy or Enhanced and note the exact game version shown by your launcher or executable.
- Read the mod’s current requirements. For RDV, compare your build with the page’s 1.36–1.50 notes and look for newer compatibility comments. For Forza-Style, confirm that you are on Legacy.
- Back up unmodified files. Copy the original handling files and keep the backup outside the game directory so a failed edit can be reversed.
- Disable competing handling edits. Do not stack two overhauls while diagnosing a crash or changed behavior. Restore a known-clean baseline first.
- Test before making permanent changes. Where available, use the Forza-style in-game editor route to sample the handling. For RDV, use a disposable installation or a separately backed-up mod profile.
- Use a repeatable route. Drive the same road, dirt section and motorcycle route at similar speeds. Compare braking, turn-in, mid-corner grip, throttle response and recovery after a slide.
- Check several vehicle classes. Test a front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive car if available, then a motorcycle. Do not judge a vehicle pack from one sports car.
- Watch for failure signs. A startup crash, missing vehicle, sudden wheel lock, implausible grip or behavior that changes between identical runs points to a compatibility or installation problem.
- Keep only one permanent version. Once you choose an overhaul, remove temporary edits and document the files changed so future game updates are easier to troubleshoot.
How to judge “feels realistic” without fooling yourself
Use behavior checkpoints, not lap time
A faster lap is not proof of realism. Record whether braking distance grows naturally with speed, whether steering beyond the tire’s limit produces a progressive slide, and whether lifting the throttle changes the car’s balance. Check whether dirt reduces control without making every vehicle uncontrollable. These observations map directly to the traits the two descriptions emphasize.
Separate assistance from physics
Forza-Style’s higher stability and reduced sliding may feel more believable if your baseline game constantly snaps into random oversteer. It may feel less believable if the car remains planted under inputs that should exceed tire capacity. RDV’s slip-angle and surface claims suggest a broader physics target, but a version mismatch can create glitches that look like bad physics.
Repeat tests after changing vehicles
RDV warns that custom models with different wheelbases and mass centers can behave worse. Test the same route with vanilla vehicles before blaming the overhaul. If only a custom car misbehaves, the model’s handling data is a more likely explanation than the entire mod.
Which overhaul fits which player?
Choose RDV when physics breadth is your priority
- You want surface, off-road, motorcycle and slip-angle behavior addressed in one package.
- You mainly drive vanilla vehicles.
- Your Legacy build is within, or demonstrably compatible with, the page’s 1.50 support range.
- You are willing to troubleshoot compatibility instead of assuming a current-build guarantee.
Choose Forza-Style when predictable speed is your priority
- You prefer stronger grip, smoother cornering and fewer random slides.
- You want to try changes temporarily before editing files permanently.
- You use GTA V Legacy and accept that Enhanced is excluded.
- You value a 54-vehicle, performance-focused pack over broad physics claims.
Do not choose either solely by ratings
RDV’s download and vote totals indicate popularity, not measured realism. Community comments can reveal crashes or successful setups, but they are not a controlled comparison. Treat them as compatibility clues and verify the result on your own clean test profile.

A similarly named mod is not the same project
“True Realistic Driving V” is a separate listing, shown as version 5.5 with a 2020 file date. User comments in 2026 mention ScriptHook failures after game updates. Do not assume that its version number, support status or behavior matches Realistic Driving V 2.5. Check the exact project name and installation instructions before replacing one with the other.
Verdict
If the question is strictly which overhaul has the strongest stated realism intent, choose Realistic Driving V. Its author addresses vehicle-specific physics, tire behavior, surfaces, off-road driving and motorcycles, while Forza-Style Handling Overhaul concentrates on speed, stability and reduced sliding. That is a comparison of design goals, not an independently verified realism championship.
For a player on GTA V Legacy who wants a controlled, low-slide driving feel and a temporary way to experiment, Forza-Style may be the better practical fit. For either choice, edition and build compatibility come first: RDV’s documented support is historical and capped at 1.50, while Forza-Style excludes Enhanced. Back up the game, test one overhaul at a time and judge identical routes across several vanilla vehicles before committing.
