A detail on Jason’s shirt in the Grand Theft Auto VI launch trailer references North Fort Law, a combat-training location from the 1997 Grand Theft Auto. Because Lucia is associated with neighboring Liberty City, the Easter egg creates a plausible theory that the pair knew each other before the events of GTA 6. It does not, however, confirm that backstory.
What the North Fort Law reference shows
The clue appears in a trailer scene with Jason and Lucia on a car. Close inspection identifies the wording on Jason’s shirt as belonging to a combat-training school in North Fort Law. North Fort Law is a district in New Guernsey, the setting associated with the original 1997 Grand Theft Auto.
The reference is therefore more specific than a generic military joke or an invented logo. It points back to an established location in the series’ earliest game, giving Rockstar a way to connect Jason’s personal history with older GTA geography.

Why it could matter to Jason and Lucia
Current trailer coverage describes Jason as having an Army background, while Lucia’s history is tied to Liberty City. New Guernsey is generally connected geographically with New Jersey, and Liberty City is the GTA setting modeled on the New York area. That places the two references in the same broad northeastern part of the fictional United States.

From those pieces, fans have proposed a possible sequence: Jason may have trained in or around New Guernsey during his Army years, Lucia may have come from nearby Liberty City, and the two could have crossed paths before the main story. The shirt would then function as a small biographical clue rather than merely a retro callback.

| Point | Status | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|---|
| North Fort Law appears on Jason’s shirt | Visible trailer detail | The wording can be read in the released footage and is identified with a combat-training school. |

| Jason trained there | Unconfirmed | The shirt suggests an association, but no official biography says he attended the school. |

How strong is the pre-game meeting theory?
Evidence strength
The strongest evidence is the physical shirt detail itself. It is something viewers can inspect rather than a rumor about an unseen cutscene. The weakest part is the leap from a shirt logo to a documented meeting between two characters. No cited Rockstar statement supplies that missing link.
Geographic plausibility
The theory has an internally coherent map: North Fort Law is in New Guernsey, while Lucia’s background is associated with neighboring Liberty City. That proximity makes an earlier encounter possible, but it does not establish where either character lived at the relevant time. “Nearby” in GTA’s fictional geography is not the same as a confirmed shared hometown or workplace.

Narrative consequence
If Rockstar later confirms that Jason trained in the area, the shirt could add emotional history to the partnership and explain why the characters trust one another. If no such explanation appears, the detail can still work as a callback to GTA’s 1997 origins without changing the protagonists’ relationship.
Does the trailer confirm Jason and Lucia are already a couple?
No. Marketing presents Jason and Lucia as the central criminal partnership, and secondary preview coverage reports that players may be able to remain a couple or continue as accomplices, with relationship investment affecting how the story develops. Those mechanics should be treated as preview information until Rockstar publishes final documentation.

The North Fort Law shirt also does not settle the couple question. Knowing one another before the story, if that is eventually confirmed, would not by itself define whether they begin GTA 6 as romantic partners, criminal associates or something that changes during play.

- Official character biographies that specify Jason’s Army service, training locations or earlier residences.
- Trailer scenes, mission footage or dialogue that names New Guernsey, North Fort Law or a connection to Liberty City.
- Rockstar explanations of how the reported relationship system affects story branches and character interactions.
- Any distinction between a school Jason attended and a shirt he wears as a stylistic reference.
Secondary reporting currently lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a November 19, 2026 release date. Retailer listings and edition details can change before launch, so they should not be treated as final confirmation of the game’s content.
The most defensible reading right now
North Fort Law is a real callback to the first GTA’s New Guernsey, and Lucia’s Liberty City background gives the reference a geographically plausible connection to Jason. That makes an earlier meeting an intriguing theory, especially given the unusual emphasis on Jason and Lucia as a pair. The trailer has not confirmed that they met before the game, that Jason attended the North Fort Law school, or that the Easter egg will affect the plot.
