Rockstar says its new Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. The statement names PS5, not PS5 Pro, so the trailer is not official evidence of Pro-hardware capture. Sony nevertheless lists the game for both PS5 and PS5 Pro, with release set for November 19, 2026.

What Rockstar actually confirmed

Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look page describes the video as “Captured entirely from in-game footage on the PlayStation 5.” The page labels Trailer 2 with a May 6, 2025 date and presents the footage as an extended look at the game’s world and technology.

That wording is the strongest available evidence about the recording hardware. It explicitly identifies PlayStation 5 and does not identify PlayStation 5 Pro. In practical terms, viewers should read the trailer as PS5-captured footage, not as a demonstration recorded on Sony’s upgraded console.

Does “PS5” mean the regular, base console?

It is reasonable to describe the footage as captured on a standard PS5 rather than a PS5 Pro because Rockstar names only “PlayStation 5.” However, the company does not use the phrase “base PS5,” provide a model number, or explain its capture setup. The precise development hardware configuration is therefore not disclosed beyond the official PS5 wording.

That distinction matters because a trailer can be rendered, edited and compressed for presentation in ways that do not reveal a game’s final retail settings. The capture statement identifies the platform used for the footage; it does not publish a performance specification.

PS5 and PS5 Pro support are separate claims

Sony’s official game page lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro. This is a platform-support and release listing, not confirmation that the Extended Look was recorded on PS5 Pro. Rockstar’s August 6, 2026 Newswire announcement likewise reiterated the November 19, 2026 launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S while discussing the trailer’s distribution.

What the trailer does not tell us

Neither Rockstar’s capture statement nor Sony’s platform listing supplies a retail resolution, frame-rate target, graphics-mode breakdown or list of PS5 Pro enhancements. There is also no cited benchmark or independent performance test establishing how the game will run on either console.

  • The footage does not establish a locked 30 or 60 frames per second.
  • It does not establish a native or output resolution.
  • It does not confirm ray-tracing settings, visual modes or whether features differ between consoles.
  • It does not prove that PS5 Pro will receive a higher resolution, steadier frame rate or other specific enhancement.

Those details require a later technical announcement, a published specification or testing of the finished game. Inferring them from trailer footage would overstate what Rockstar and Sony have confirmed.

Release, platforms and price

Sony currently lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5 and PS5 Pro with a November 19, 2026 release date. Rockstar’s August 6, 2026 Newswire post also repeated the November 19 launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two’s preorder announcement gives an announced launch price of US$79.99 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions.

Prices can vary by country, taxes, edition and retailer, so the US$79.99 figure should be treated as the publisher’s announced price rather than a universal checkout total. The cited announcements do not establish separate pricing for a PS5 Pro version.

What this means if you own a PS5

The capture wording supports the straightforward conclusion that Rockstar is developing and showcasing the game on PS5 hardware. You do not need a PS5 Pro to match the platform identified for this trailer. The footage is not a promise that every visual setting or performance target will be identical on release, but it does show that PS5 is a primary launch platform rather than an afterthought.

What this means if you are considering a PS5 Pro

There is an official PS5 Pro listing, but no enhancement list. Until Rockstar or Sony publishes supported modes, resolution targets or frame-rate information, a PS5 Pro purchase cannot be justified on the basis of this trailer alone. Compare the consoles using confirmed information—game support, announced enhancements, price, storage and availability—and treat any claimed performance advantage as unverified until official specifications or testing appear.
