A giant Grand Theft Auto VI billboard wrapped around the Les Mercuriales towers in Bagnolet, near Paris, appears to alter the game’s standard cover art. Lucia’s pistol and an assault rifle visible in the familiar illustration are absent, while the rest of the recognizable Lucia-and-Jason composition remains. The change is real in the outdoor execution, but no published source gives an official reason for it.
What is different about the Paris billboard?
Creative Bloq and Joking Joystick describe the same visual discrepancy: the Paris installation keeps the broad GTA VI cover-art layout but removes two firearms. Lucia’s pistol is missing, as is an assault rifle shown in another panel of the standard artwork.
That makes the advert different from the source illustration without making it a different game cover. The evidence concerns one large-format advertising treatment, not a change to GTA VI’s in-game content, character designs or official key art. Photographs and reports establish what is visible on the building; they do not establish who ordered the edits.

Was the GTA 6 cover censored?
It is too strong to say that Rockstar Games censored the cover. No cited report identifies an explanation from Rockstar, the building owner, the advertising partner or a local regulator.

Venue policy, French or local advertising standards, or a decision made during production are possible explanations, but they remain hypotheses. The available reporting supports only this narrower conclusion: the Paris billboard omits the two weapons seen in the standard illustration, and the responsible parties have not publicly explained why.
Where is the billboard?
The advert is wrapped around the Les Mercuriales towers in Bagnolet, in the Paris metropolitan area. Its unusual scale makes the artwork visible from a distance, but the surrounding architecture and viewing angle can also make small differences from the official illustration easy to miss. The missing weapons become apparent when the building execution is compared directly with the standard cover art.

How the Paris execution compares with the standard artwork
| Comparison point | Standard GTA VI illustration | Paris building advert |
|---|---|---|
| Overall composition | Recognizable Lucia-and-Jason cover layout with multiple panels | Broader composition retained |
| Lucia’s pistol | Visible | Removed |
| Assault rifle in another panel | Visible | Removed |
| Reason for change | Part of the published illustration | No official explanation published |
This is a localized execution issue rather than evidence that the official key art has been globally revised. Other campaign materials may use different crops or adaptations, so a single building wrap should not be treated as proof of a wider artwork replacement.

Rockstar’s promotion extends beyond Paris. In Miami, a large “Welcome to Vice City” installation is planned for the Kaseya Center, tying the fictional setting in GTA VI to the real city that inspired it.

GamesRadar reports that Miami-Dade County would collect $975,000 from that sign arrangement. The figure applies to the Kaseya Center installation and county agreement described in the reporting; it is not a published total for every GTA VI advertisement worldwide.
What the Miami installation reveals about the campaign’s scale
Planning documents reported by iGrandTheftAuto.com provide unusually specific physical details for the Kaseya Center sign:
Rank #4
| Specification | Reported detail |
|---|---|
| Sign area | 4,690 square feet |
| New structural steel | 21,000 pounds |
| Major helicopter-lift loads | Approximately 4,200 pounds and 4,950 pounds |
| Maximum featured-copy period | Up to two years |
| Reported county payment | $975,000 to Miami-Dade County |
| Design and lighting | “WELCOME TO,” pink-and-white “Vice City” script and the VI logo, with static illumination |
The Miami-Dade Letter of Intent quoted by iGrandTheftAuto.com describes the copy as an onsite sign promoting Rockstar Games, identified there as a major arena sponsor whose merchandise would be sold at the venue alongside other promotions. That wording explains the commercial context of the Kaseya Center sign, but it does not explain the missing weapons in Paris.

Large building wraps are not always one-to-one reproductions of printed or digital key art. Artwork can be redrawn for visibility, adjusted to fit architectural surfaces, or reviewed under venue and jurisdiction-specific rules. Weapon imagery can be especially sensitive in public advertising, but no source confirms that sensitivity caused this edit in Bagnolet.
The practical takeaway is therefore limited but clear: the Paris billboard is visibly less faithful to the standard GTA VI illustration because two firearms are gone. Calling that an unexplained alteration is accurate; calling it confirmed Rockstar censorship is not.
What remains unknown
- Which party requested or approved the weapon removals.
- Whether a venue rule, regulator, advertiser preference or production constraint prompted the change.
- Whether other GTA VI outdoor executions use the same weapon-free artwork.
- Whether Rockstar intends to issue any explanation.
The Bottom Line
The Paris GTA VI billboard has a genuine design discrepancy: Lucia’s pistol and another assault rifle from the standard cover art are missing. The installation is in Bagnolet near Paris, and no official source has explained the edit. It should be reported as an unexplained advertising alteration, not as proven censorship or a change to the game itself.
