Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with an announced price of $79.99. The wait since GTA V has reached 13 years, but Take-Two says that interval covered major GTA V ports and remakes, the continued operation of GTA Online and the long development process required to make GTA VI meet Rockstar’s quality standards.
When does GTA 6 come out?
Take-Two Interactive’s current announcement lists November 19, 2026 as GTA VI’s release date. The announced launch platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the announced price is $79.99. The date is not the original target: the game was first positioned for 2025, moved to May 26, 2026, and then moved again to November 19, 2026.

The November 2025 delay notice from Rockstar said the additional months were needed to finish the game with the “level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.” Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick has similarly said that when a game needs more polish to become the best possible version, the company will give it more time.
Why has GTA 6 taken so long?
Calling the 13-year gap a “fluke” is an interpretation, not a statement Rockstar has made. Zelnick’s explanation is that Rockstar has been working continuously across several large projects and that GTA VI itself requires an unusually long production cycle.

GTA V was repeatedly expanded and rebuilt
After its 2013 release, GTA V was relaunched on PC and remade for each subsequent console generation. Those versions required engineering, optimization, testing and support rather than a single, finished release being left untouched.
GTA Online became a long-running service
Rockstar also launched and operated GTA Online, adding ongoing content and maintaining the infrastructure for a large player base. Zelnick says the company’s work during the interval cannot be reduced to asking what happened to a single sequel: “It’s not as simple as, wow, what have we been up to for 13 years? The answer is they’ve been up to quite a lot.”

GTA VI is being built to a very high technical bar
Take-Two’s stated reason for the gap is the time required to make the next game “as good as it can possibly be” for the GTA intellectual property. That is a quality and readiness claim, not a promise that every future Rockstar project will need the same amount of time.

Yes. The latest move was from May 26, 2026, to November 19, 2026—a further six months. Zelnick has said, “When we set a date, we really do believe in it,” but he has also made clear that a date can change when more polish is needed. The history therefore supports two conclusions at once: November 19 is the current official date, and previous dates have not held.

How strong are GTA V and GTA Online today?
The commercial success of the existing games helps explain why Take-Two could support such a long development interval. Take-Two reported more than 225 million GTA V units sold-in since 2013 in its 2026 update. The same update reported 27% year-over-year growth in recurrent consumer spending for the Grand Theft Auto series.
Those figures do not prove that GTA VI was intentionally delayed for commercial reasons. They do show that GTA V and GTA Online remained substantial businesses while Rockstar worked on the sequel, reducing the pressure to release an unfinished replacement on a short schedule.

Will the next Rockstar game really arrive sooner?
Zelnick says Take-Two has a plan for its labels, including Rockstar, but also says the company is “not a cadence-driven company.” In other words, it does not promise an annual or fixed release rhythm for major properties.

That makes the headline claim easy to overstate. The available statements support a plan to avoid treating every sequel as a 13-year wait, but they do not guarantee a release interval for GTA VII or identify a date for any named future game. The practical expectation is that Rockstar may adjust its production and support strategy after GTA VI, while still prioritizing quality over a rigid calendar.

Which platforms will get GTA 6?
Confirmed at launch
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
These are the only platforms identified in the current announcement. The announced price is $79.99 for the game, although regional pricing, editions and retailer availability can differ.
What about PC?
A PC version has not been given a launch date in the cited announcement. That means PC timing remains unknown rather than confirmed for November 19, 2026. Anyone planning to play on PC should wait for a specific Rockstar or Take-Two announcement instead of assuming that the console date applies.
What the delays mean for launch certainty
GTA VI has a firm announced date, but its history shows that announced dates can move. The reasons given publicly are finishing quality and technical polish. The safest reading is that November 19, 2026 is the date to plan around while recognizing that Rockstar can revise it if the game is not ready.

GTA VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The long wait reflects GTA V ports and remakes, ongoing GTA Online support and the time Rockstar says it needs to deliver the required level of polish. Take-Two’s promise is a planning philosophy—not a guarantee that GTA VII will arrive on any particular schedule.
