Grand Theft Auto VI is officially announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a current release date of November 19, 2026. Rockstar has not published PC system requirements, a PC release date, an install-size figure, or a guaranteed frame-rate target. The physical console edition also requires a download: its box contains a redemption code, not a game disc.
That means you can make a reliable launch decision today—choose a supported current-generation console and reserve substantial free storage—but you cannot yet honestly specify a PC graphics card, processor, RAM capacity, or exact number of gigabytes.
What is officially confirmed for GTA 6

PlayStation 5 footage and the “best” label
Rockstar’s extended-look article says its footage was “Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.” The official GTA VI site separately displays “Plays Best On PlayStation 5.” These statements establish the platform used for the showcased footage and Rockstar’s qualitative preference; they do not state a particular resolution, graphics preset or frame-rate advantage over Xbox Series X.
PC system requirements: why no honest specification exists yet
Rockstar has not published a PC build in the cited official sources. Consequently, there is no confirmed minimum or recommended CPU, graphics card, RAM amount, Windows version, graphics API, ray-tracing requirement or PC release date.
Lists circulating online that name particular GeForce or Radeon models, Core or Ryzen processors, memory capacities, SSD capacities or a 60-FPS target are estimates unless Rockstar later publishes those figures. A component list can look precise while having no evidentiary basis: PC requirements depend on the final engine build, asset streaming, shader compilation, graphics settings and the performance target Rockstar chooses.

How to evaluate a future PC requirements announcement
When an official PC page appears, check whether it distinguishes minimum, recommended and high-refresh targets. Look for the tested resolution, preset, upscaling method, ray-tracing setting, storage type and operating-system build. A requirement that merely names a GPU without those conditions cannot tell you whether it targets 30 FPS at 1080p or 60 FPS at a higher resolution.
- Confirm the exact model, not only a product family. Different memory sizes and laptop versions can perform differently.
- Check whether system RAM and video memory are listed separately.
- Verify that the stated storage requirement includes patches and temporary installation space.
- Wait for independent benchmarks using a released PC build before treating a 60-FPS expectation as practical advice.
How much storage will GTA 6 need?
No official GTA VI install-size figure has been published. Do not treat a guessed 150 GB, 200 GB or any other number as a confirmed requirement. The final package may include high-resolution audio, texture data and streaming files, but those possibilities do not establish a number.
The boxed edition still needs a full download
Rockstar Support says the physical version contains a download code and that “A disc will not be included in the box.” Redeeming that code therefore requires an internet connection, sufficient console storage and enough download capacity. Buying a box does not let you install the game from a disc or play an offline disc copy.
Pre-load timing
For eligible redeemed codes, pre-loading begins November 12, 2026—seven days before the announced launch. Pre-loading reduces launch-day waiting but does not remove the need for free space. Keep additional capacity available for temporary download files and updates; Rockstar has not stated how much extra headroom will be required.

Practical storage preparation
- Open your console’s storage-management screen and record both total free space and the capacity of any expansion drive.
- Delete or move games you can reinstall, while keeping saved data and captures backed up through your platform’s normal cloud or USB options.
- Leave more space than the eventual download number because installation and patching can require temporary working room.
- Use a wired connection or a stable 5-GHz Wi-Fi network where possible, and avoid scheduling the download during a period when your connection has a data cap.
- Start the pre-load as soon as your store makes it available on November 12, then allow time for any launch update.
Do not buy an expansion SSD solely on the basis of an unverified size rumor. Wait for Rockstar to publish the install figure and for your console manufacturer to confirm the drive’s compatibility and installation procedure.
Will GTA 6 run at 60 FPS?
There is no official guaranteed frame-rate target. Rockstar has shown PS5 footage, but the footage announcement does not promise 30 FPS, 60 FPS, a performance mode or a choice between quality and performance modes.
Tom’s Hardware reported that launch-console play was expected to be capped at 30 FPS and that no performance mode had been promised. That is secondary reporting, not a Rockstar specification, so treat it as an expectation rather than a universal rule. The final retail build could clarify frame-rate modes, dynamic resolution and any differences between consoles.
Why a frame-rate answer needs conditions
“60 FPS” can describe a target, an unlocked result or a mode that drops below its target in demanding scenes. It also depends on resolution, reconstruction or upscaling, visual-quality settings and whether ray-traced effects are enabled. Until Rockstar publishes those details or the game is tested, no exact combination of resolution and frame rate can be promised.

You do not need a PS5 Pro or a particular Xbox model based on any published GTA VI requirement. The confirmed launch family is PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s only explicit qualitative comparison is that GTA VI “Plays Best On PlayStation 5”; it has not published a resolution or frame-rate advantage for PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.

- Set a budget that makes sense for the games and applications you can run today.
- Prefer a balanced system with a modern processor, adequate memory, fast solid-state storage and a graphics card suited to your current monitor; these are general PC-buying principles, not GTA VI requirements.
- Keep your operating system, graphics driver and motherboard firmware maintainable, but do not assume a particular future API or Windows version until Rockstar states it.
- Reassess after Rockstar announces a PC version and publishes tested requirements. Compare those requirements with independent launch benchmarks rather than with rumor spreadsheets.
Common GTA 6 hardware mistakes
Confusing a console announcement with a PC announcement
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S support does not imply that a Windows version launches at the same time. No PC release date is established by the current announcements.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Repeating an unverified storage number
Because no official install size exists, a precise gigabyte figure is not useful purchasing advice. Plan for free space and a download, then adjust when Rockstar provides the number.
Assuming a box contains playable media
The announced physical package has a code and no disc. If your connection is limited, verify that you can complete a large download before buying.
Interpreting cinematic footage as a performance test
Rockstar’s extended look was captured from in-game footage on PS5, but it is not a published benchmark. It does not prove a retail frame rate, resolution or graphics mode.
Buying storage before compatibility is documented
Console expansion products have platform-specific compatibility rules. Wait for the game’s storage requirement and the platform holder’s current compatibility guidance before committing money to an expansion drive.
A launch-readiness checklist
- Use a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S; those are the officially announced launch platforms.
- Mark November 19, 2026 as the current release date.
- Have an internet connection capable of downloading the game, including if you buy the physical edition.
- Free enough internal or approved expansion storage for the unknown installation and temporary update space.
- If you pre-order an eligible code, plan to start pre-loading on November 12, 2026.
- Do not rely on unofficial PC requirements, install-size figures or 60-FPS claims.
- Recheck Rockstar’s platform, storage and performance announcements as launch approaches.
Bottom line for hardware decisions
For launch, the safe answer is a current PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S with ample free storage and a reliable broadband connection. PlayStation 5 is the only system Rockstar explicitly labels as playing best, but no measurable advantage has been published. Every exact PC requirement, GTA VI install-size number and guaranteed frame-rate claim currently circulating without Rockstar’s specification should be treated as unconfirmed.
