GTA VI review access may begin before the end of October 2026, according to reporting published October 14, more than three weeks before the game’s confirmed November 19 launch. Insider Gaming reportedly learned that the review embargo will expire before release, while insider NateTheHate said PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S copies could reach selected reviewers by the end of October. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not published an official review schedule, so the timing remains an insider report rather than confirmed publisher information.
What the latest GTA 6 review-copy report says
Notebookcheck reported on October 14 that Insider Gaming had learned the Grand Theft Auto VI review embargo would end before launch. NateTheHate separately said copies for Xbox or PlayStation 5 could be available before the end of October. With the official release set for November 19, that would give some reviewers access at least three weeks early.
The exact embargo date, the number of reviewers involved and whether copies would be downloadable take-home builds or another controlled format have not been announced. Until Rockstar or Take-Two issues an embargo notice, “three weeks early” should be read as a reported access window, not a confirmed schedule.

Take-Two and Rockstar’s official announcement lists November 19, 2026 as the release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It lists the standard edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. Those are the announced prices for the editions in that release information; regional pricing, taxes and later promotions can differ.
#1 Best Overall
- This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19.
- Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
Preloading is scheduled to begin November 12, one week before launch. A preload lets a purchaser download the game files in advance, but it does not provide playable access before the publisher’s unlock time.
Why the reported timing is a change from earlier expectations
Earlier reporting pointed toward a much tighter leak-control plan. Insider Gaming summarized an unverified claim from Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe that Rockstar might hold a closed review event. Under that scenario, journalists would travel to a supervised location, play for several days in a closed room and receive no take-home key.

The newer report instead suggests that at least some controlled advance copies could be distributed. That would be a significant operational change because reviewers could potentially access the game away from Rockstar’s facilities. It does not prove that every outlet will receive a copy, that the build will be complete or that reviewers can publish immediately.

Yes. Advance access creates a real spoiler risk even when a publisher uses non-disclosure agreements, watermarking, review-specific accounts or technical restrictions. A reviewer, contractor or compromised account could expose story scenes, missions, map locations, characters or gameplay systems before the embargo expires. The Notebookcheck report notes Rockstar’s caution about leaks and points to unauthorized footage from other games in 2026.

- Rule the city streets in a thrilling open-world crime adventure.
- Drive luxury cars, bikes, and police vehicles in epic missions.
- Fight gang wars, escape police chases, and dominate turf battles.
- Explore a massive urban map packed with action and secrets.
- Play offline anytime — no internet required for crime fun!
Early access does not automatically mean a leak will occur. Publishers can limit recording, require online checks, distribute individualized builds and revoke access. However, distributing more copies generally creates more points of failure than keeping journalists together in a monitored event. Readers who want to remain spoiler-free should treat social-media clips, thumbnails and supposedly leaked details as potentially unsafe from the moment review access is reported.
Review-access scenarios compared
| Scenario | Timing | Access model | Leak exposure | Value for buyers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reported advance-copy plan | Possibly by the end of October, more than three weeks before November 19 | Selected PS5 or Xbox Series X|S reviewers may receive controlled copies; exact format is not public | Higher than a single supervised venue because access is distributed, although technical controls may reduce risk | Could give buyers substantial information before launch if the embargo is also early |
| Earlier rumored closed event | A few days before publication, with no public date established | Journalists play on site in a closed, supervised room and do not receive keys | Lower distribution risk, but leaks are still possible from people or equipment at the event | Reviews could still precede launch, but journalists would have less time and less flexible access |
| Near-launch access | Shortly before November 19 | Copies or event sessions close to release | Less time for a leak to circulate before launch | Limited opportunity to change a preorder decision before release |
The first row is the currently reported possibility, not a confirmed Rockstar policy. The other rows describe the alternatives raised by the reporting or a conventional near-launch embargo; no official schedule establishes which model will be used.

Is there a physical GTA 6 disc?
Current official information says the physical product contains a download code inside the retail box. GameSpot reported that no game disc is planned and that the code will not unlock until launch. Preloading begins November 12, but the boxed code remains unusable until the publisher’s launch unlock on November 19.
That means buying the physical edition does not provide an offline disc installation. You should expect an internet connection to redeem the code and download the game, and you should keep the code secure until release. The box is a retail package for a digital entitlement rather than a disc that can be inserted and played independently.
What buyers should watch next
- An official embargo notice: Rockstar or Take-Two could confirm the publication date and any restrictions.
- Platform confirmation: The announced launch platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- Preload instructions: The announced preload start is November 12, with playability still locked until launch.
- Leak warnings: Avoid unverified footage and screenshots if you want to experience the story without spoilers.
- Edition details: The standard edition is listed at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99 in the official announcement.
What is confirmed versus what is still reported
Confirmed publisher information covers the November 19, 2026 launch, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms, the announced edition prices, the November 12 preload date and the physical box’s download-code format. The possibility that reviewers receive copies by the end of October, and the claim that the embargo expires before launch, come from media and insider reporting. Rockstar and Take-Two have not publicly confirmed those review-access details.
