Grand Theft Auto VI is currently listed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with an announced release date of November 19, 2026. Rockstar has not published official PC system requirements, and the current listings do not establish a PS4, Xbox One, PC or Nintendo Switch version. If you are buying hardware specifically for the game, start by verifying the exact console family and your account region on the live store listing—not by relying on rumored CPU, GPU or storage specifications.
The safest purchase is usually the supported console you already own. If you own neither, choose between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S using ecosystem, local pricing, availability and account compatibility. PlayStation says the game will “play best on PS5,” but that is a platform-holder positioning statement, not an independent frame-rate or resolution comparison.
Which platforms does GTA 6 support?
Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI listing currently names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are the platform families a buyer can verify today. The listing does not name PS4, Xbox One, PC or Nintendo Switch.
That omission should be read precisely. It means those versions are not confirmed on the current official page; it does not prove that Rockstar could never announce another version later. Do not buy an older console on the assumption that a future port will arrive, and do not treat internet speculation as a system requirement.

| Xbox Series X|S | Listed by Rockstar and Xbox | Confirm whether the offer is for Series X or Series S and check your Microsoft account region. |
| PlayStation 4 | Not listed on the current Rockstar page | Do not purchase a PS4 for GTA 6 on the assumption of compatibility. |

Use the Rockstar listing as the primary compatibility check because retailer pages can be incomplete, region-specific or updated at different times.
Is there an official PC version or system requirement?
Not in the official material currently available for this launch. No authoritative CPU, graphics-card, memory, operating-system or storage requirement has been established. A console announcement also cannot be converted into a PC specification: console hardware, operating-system overhead, graphics settings and storage behavior are different variables.
That makes any detailed PC list circulating online—such as a particular processor generation, graphics card, RAM amount or SSD capacity—speculative unless it is later published by Rockstar or an authorized platform page. Treat a “minimum” or “recommended” table without an official source as a rumor, not a buying specification.

Buy a console only if you want a platform that is currently listed. Do not buy PC components specifically for GTA 6 until an official PC product page supplies requirements and a release plan. The absence of requirements is an information gap, not evidence that any modern gaming PC will run the game.
When is GTA 6 scheduled to launch?
PlayStation, Xbox and Take-Two’s announcement state November 19, 2026 as the release date. PlayStation’s announcement is dated June 24, 2026; the date is also shown on the Xbox listing and in Take-Two’s announcement.

A date shown in an announcement is not a guarantee that every country, edition or retailer will deliver at the same local time. Before you place an order, open the store page for your country and check the current release information, edition name and delivery terms. If a retailer shows a different date, ask whether it is displaying a time-zone conversion, an estimated shipping date or an outdated listing.
What price and editions should you expect?
Take-Two’s pre-order announcement listed $79.99. That is the price stated in that announcement, not a universal price for every country, tax regime, edition or later store listing. Currency conversion, sales tax, local pricing and special editions can change the amount shown at checkout.
Check the edition title rather than relying on a product thumbnail. Confirm whether the listing is the base game, a bundle, a pre-order entitlement or a physical code-in-box product. Compare the final displayed price in your own country and currency, including delivery or tax where applicable. The official announcements do not establish a complete worldwide edition-and-price table.
PS5 or Xbox Series X|S: how to choose
Both platform families are officially listed, but the sources do not provide a neutral, measured comparison of resolution, frame rate, loading time or image quality. Your decision should therefore be based on ownership, ecosystem and purchase conditions rather than an invented performance ranking.
| Decision factor | Choose PS5 when… | Choose Xbox Series X|S when… |
|---|---|---|
| You already own a console | You already have a PS5 and want to avoid buying duplicate hardware. | You already have a Series X or Series S and want the lowest additional hardware cost. |
| Friends and account history | Your friends, purchases and preferred online identity are on PlayStation. | Your friends, purchases and preferred online identity are on Xbox. |
| Platform messaging | You value PlayStation’s statement that the game will “play best on PS5.” This is PlayStation’s claim, not an independent benchmark. | You prefer the Xbox ecosystem and the Series model that fits your budget and display. |
| Local price and stock | The PS5 bundle and game price are better or more available in your country. | The Series X|S bundle and game price are better or more available in your country. |
| Digital-store region | Your account and retailer operate in the same country or region. | Your Microsoft account and retailer operate in the same country or region. |
| Model choice | You can verify that the specific PS5 offer is a currently supported model. | You can verify whether the offer is Series X or Series S and that it is the model you intend to buy. |
PlayStation.Blog says, “Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19.” Read that as PlayStation’s product positioning. It does not specify a frame-rate target, resolution target or measured advantage over Xbox Series X|S. The official pages reviewed likewise do not publish model-level performance targets.

Do you need a particular PS5 or Xbox model?
The current listings establish the console families, not a complete model specification. They do not state a required storage capacity, frame-rate mode, resolution, disc-drive configuration or other hardware threshold. Consequently, verify the exact model on the live product page before purchase.

PS5 checks
- Make sure the listing identifies a PlayStation 5 rather than a PS4.
- Check whether the package is the digital or disc-equipped configuration and whether that affects how you intend to buy the game.
- Confirm the seller, country and return terms.
- Recheck the official Rockstar and PlayStation pages if the retailer uses an abbreviated model name.
Xbox checks
- Make sure the listing identifies Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, not Xbox One.
- Confirm which Series model is in the box; “Series X|S” is the supported family, not a single hardware configuration.
- Check the Microsoft account country and the store region attached to the purchase.
- Review the final edition, delivery and return information at checkout.
Do not infer unsupported details from a console’s marketing tier. The available GTA 6 pages do not promise a particular mode on one Series model or a particular PS5 configuration.
Digital purchase or physical box: an important distinction
Rockstar Support explains that the physical version contains a download code for the digital download. It is therefore not safe to assume that a box contains a game disc that can install independently of an account or network connection.
Read the complete platform-and-editions guidance in Rockstar’s support article before ordering a code-in-box product. Confirm the platform printed in the listing, the country in which the code is sold and the account that will redeem it.
Why retailer country and account country matter
Rockstar recommends buying and playing from a retailer in the country of the platform account to avoid potential activation problems. Platform and country can affect how a digital code works. A cheaper imported box may therefore create a larger problem than its apparent saving if its code cannot be redeemed by your account.

- Explore uncharted virtual territories and slay dragons with this sleek Sony PlayStation 5 gaming console.
Before checkout, record three pieces of information:
- The country or region set on your PlayStation Network or Microsoft account.
- The country in which the retailer operates and the code is issued.
- Whether the product is a direct digital purchase or a physical package containing a download code.
If those details do not align, choose a same-country listing where possible or ask the retailer for written confirmation of redemption eligibility. Do not redeem an unfamiliar code merely to test it; once activated, digital products may be difficult or impossible to return.
A safe buying process, step by step
- Open the current official listing. Start with Rockstar’s GTA 6 page and verify that PS5 or Xbox Series X|S is still named.
- Identify your exact console. Record whether it is PS5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S. Reject PS4 and Xbox One listings for this purchase because they are not currently listed.
- Check the regional store. Sign in to the account that will own the game and verify its country or region.
- Choose digital or code-in-box deliberately. For a physical package, read Rockstar’s activation guidance and confirm that it contains a download code rather than assuming it contains a disc.
- Compare the final local price. Use the retailer’s checkout currency and include tax, delivery and any bundle difference. Treat the $79.99 figure from Take-Two as an announced reference, not a worldwide guarantee.
- Confirm the date and edition. Check that the listing still states November 19, 2026 and that the edition name matches what you intend to buy.
- Save proof of purchase. Keep the receipt, order number, product region and code-in-box packaging until the game has redeemed and launched successfully.
- Recheck shortly before launch. Official store terms, stock, prices and edition details can change; verify them again before the payment becomes nonrefundable.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying an older-generation console because it is cheaper
A discounted PS4 or Xbox One is not a GTA 6 purchase strategy. Those platforms are absent from the current official listing. Buy one only for other games you explicitly want, not because a seller suggests compatibility that Rockstar has not confirmed.
Using rumor-based PC requirements
Unverified hardware tables can lead to an expensive, mismatched PC upgrade. No official requirements were established in the current pages. Wait for a publisher or platform-holder specification before selecting components for this title.

Assuming “plays best” means a measured technical lead
PlayStation’s wording concerns use of PS5 immersive features and the single-player experience. It does not publish comparative frame-rate or resolution data. Use it as one preference factor, not proof that Xbox performance is inferior.

Importing a code from another country
Country mismatch is a stated activation risk. The same-country retailer recommendation is safer than relying on a discount whose redemption conditions are unclear.
Confusing a code-in-box package with a disc
Rockstar says the physical version contains a download code. Check the package description and plan for the account redemption and download process.
What to do if a code will not activate
- Stop repeated redemption attempts and photograph the receipt, code packaging and error message.
- Check that the console family in the purchase matches the console you are using.
- Compare the retailer country with the country of the platform account.
- Read Rockstar’s current platform, editions and versions guidance.
- Contact the retailer first if the product was misrepresented or issued for another region; keep the order details available for escalation.
Do not publish or share an unused code while seeking help. A support agent may need the order information, but the code itself should remain private.
How to make the decision if you already own a console
If you own a PS5, buying the Xbox version as well normally adds hardware and game cost without solving a compatibility problem; verify the PlayStation listing and your account region first. If you own a Series X or Series S, the equivalent logic applies to Xbox. The official material does not establish a cross-platform performance reason that would justify replacing a listed console.
If you own both families, compare the store region, friends list, controller preference, existing account purchases and the exact local price. Keep the decision tied to the platform you will actually use. A retailer’s bundle or a temporary stock shortage can change the practical answer even when both platforms remain supported.
What is still unknown
Several purchase-critical details remain unpublished in the official pages reviewed:
- Any PC release date or PC system requirements.
- Required or recommended storage space.
- Target frame rates and resolutions for PS5, Series X and Series S.
- Whether every future edition or bundle will use identical entitlements.
- Worldwide pricing, taxes, launch-time delivery and regional store terms.
These are genuine unknowns. A careful buyer should leave them unresolved rather than replacing them with a confident-looking estimate.
