Rockstar has not announced a Windows version of Grand Theft Auto VI or published PC requirements. The game is scheduled for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, so every PC specification available now is an estimate.

For planning only, expect a modern six-core processor, 16GB of memory, a DirectX 12 graphics card with at least 6GB of VRAM and SSD storage as a lower tier. A more comfortable target is 32GB RAM, an eight-core-class CPU, an RTX 3060 Ti/RTX 4060-or RX 6700 XT-class GPU and an NVMe SSD.

What Rockstar and Take-Two have actually confirmed

Rockstar’s support page, updated August 18, 2026, lists Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It does not list Windows, PC hardware, a PC release window or system requirements.

Take-Two Interactive’s official launch announcement sets the console release for November 19, 2026. Digital pre-loading starts November 12, and the standard console edition is priced at $79.99. The announced physical edition includes a download code rather than a disc; that is a console product detail, not evidence of PC specifications.

The same announcement describes Take-Two as having sold in more than 470 million units worldwide. That scale explains why PC owners are watching closely, but it does not constitute a platform commitment.

Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick has said, “The strategy of the company is over time, generally speaking, to launch for any platforms for which there’s a meaningful audience.” He has also said, “the PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time.” Both comments describe corporate strategy, not a confirmed GTA VI PC release.

Until Rockstar publishes a Windows listing and specification sheet, no minimum or recommended requirement circulating online should be treated as official.

Component Lower planning tier More comfortable target
Processor Modern six-core CPU Modern eight-core-class CPU
Memory 16GB system RAM 32GB system RAM
Graphics DirectX 12 GPU with at least 6GB VRAM RTX 3060 Ti/RTX 4060 or RX 6700 XT-class GPU
Storage SSD NVMe SSD, preferably 1TB or larger for a games library
Resolution and frame-rate headroom Not established; intended as a baseline for planning More headroom for higher settings or resolution, but no frame-rate is promised
Official status Predicted only; Rockstar has published no PC specification

Graphics-card names in this table indicate performance classes for budgeting. They do not mean any listed model is guaranteed to run GTA VI, and the final requirement could be higher or lower.

Why these estimates are reasonable—and why they can change

The console generation sets the floor

GTA VI is being developed first for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, rather than the older PlayStation 4 and Xbox One generation. A future PC build will need to reproduce that newer console target while supporting many combinations of processors, graphics cards, drivers and memory configurations. That makes a current six-core CPU, 16GB of RAM, a DX12-class GPU and SSD storage a sensible planning floor, not a confirmed minimum.

PC optimization is unknown

Rockstar has not stated whether the eventual Windows version will launch alongside consoles, which graphics presets it will provide or how well it will scale to older hardware. Port quality, shader compilation, draw-distance settings and CPU workload can all move the requirement substantially. A well-optimized port could run below the comfortable tier; a demanding release with limited scaling could need more.

Ray tracing and display targets matter

Ray-tracing support has not been announced. If it is required for particular visual features, the GPU class and VRAM recommendation could rise. Resolution and frame-rate goals also change the answer: 1080p at a lower preset needs less graphics headroom than 1440p or 4K at a high preset. No official target exists for any of those combinations.

Why GTA V’s PC requirements are not a GTA VI answer

Rockstar’s GTA V PC page lists a GTX 660 2GB or Radeon HD 7870 2GB and 125GB of storage, while warning that requirements can change over time. Those figures are a historical baseline from an older game and should not be used as GTA VI minimums. The newer console target, larger modern-game assets and unknown PC feature set make a direct one-to-one comparison unreliable.

Can your current PC run GTA 6?

You cannot receive a definitive yes or no before Rockstar publishes Windows requirements. You can, however, use this checklist to decide whether your system is a sensible candidate for a future port:

  • CPU: Identify whether your processor is a recent six-core model or better. Older four-core chips may become a limitation in a large open-world game, but no cutoff has been announced.
  • RAM: 16GB is the lower planning point; 32GB gives more room for the game, background applications and future releases.
  • GPU: Check that the card supports DirectX 12 and has at least 6GB of VRAM for the lower estimate. Eight gigabytes or more is a more durable target for modern games, not a GTA VI guarantee.
  • Storage: Plan on an SSD rather than a hard drive. The final installation size has not been disclosed, so do not reserve space based on unverified online figures.
  • Operating system: Rockstar has not announced the supported Windows version or launcher requirements.

If your machine falls below several of these planning points, wait for an official specification before buying parts specifically for GTA VI.

Should you upgrade before the PC version is announced?

For a GTA VI-only purchase, waiting is the financially safer choice. An official Windows announcement should establish the platform, release timing, minimum and recommended tiers, storage requirement and any ray-tracing or upscaling expectations. Buying before those details risks paying for the wrong balance of CPU, GPU and memory.

If you are upgrading for current games as well, build around balanced parts rather than a single headline component:

  1. Choose a modern six- or eight-core CPU appropriate to your motherboard platform.
  2. Install at least 16GB of RAM; choose 32GB if your budget and workload justify it.
  3. Use an SSD for the operating system and games. A 1TB NVMe SSD is a practical capacity target while waiting, although GTA VI’s final install size is unknown.
  4. Select a graphics card with at least 8GB of VRAM for broader modern-game compatibility. Treat any specific RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 4060 or RX 6700 XT recommendation as an estimate, not a promise.
  5. Check power-supply capacity, case clearance and cooling before ordering a faster card or processor.

This approach improves performance in existing PC games without pretending that today’s parts list is an official GTA VI certification.

What to monitor for the real requirements

When Rockstar eventually confirms a Windows version, look for a complete specification sheet rather than a single GPU name. The useful details will include minimum and recommended CPU models, RAM capacity, GPU models and VRAM, supported DirectX features, required storage type and capacity, operating-system version, resolution and frame-rate assumptions, and whether ray tracing is optional or required.

Compare those requirements with your exact hardware model, not just its product family. Laptop and desktop versions of a GPU can perform differently, and shared system memory is not the same as dedicated VRAM. Recheck the requirements after launch as drivers and patches can change performance expectations.
