Not confirmed. As of October 13, 2026, Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and says it “Plays Best On PlayStation 5,” but neither Rockstar nor Sony has announced a GTA 6-specific PS5 Pro mode or performance advantage. PS5 Pro is a plausible premium choice, not a proven best way to play this game. If you already own a base PS5, the official information available gives you no game-specific reason to upgrade before launch.
What is confirmed for GTA 6 at launch?
Rockstar currently lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a scheduled release date of November 19, 2026. Its page also labels the game “Plays Best On PlayStation 5.” That is Rockstar’s official platform positioning, not a published comparison of PS5 and PS5 Pro performance. Rockstar’s GTA VI page

Rockstar’s August 27, 2026 extended look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PS5. That establishes the platform used for the showcase; it does not establish that the footage came from a PS5 Pro or show how the game performs on one. Rockstar’s extended look announcement
Sony’s June 24, 2026 post repeats that GTA 6 will play best on PS5. Sony executive Mary Yee attributes that experience to the partnership with Rockstar and PS5’s immersive features. This is marketing language from Sony, not independent testing or a base-versus-Pro comparison. Sony’s PlayStation Blog announcement

What could PS5 Pro improve—and what is unknown?
Sony says PS5 Pro has 67% more GPU compute units than the current PS5 and 28% faster memory, enabling up to 45% faster rendering. Sony also cites upgraded ray tracing and its PSSR image-upscaling technology. These are general PS5 Pro hardware claims, not GTA 6 benchmarks or promised results for this game. Sony’s PS5 Pro announcement
Sony explicitly qualifies Pro benefits: “Features only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with the PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.” The hardware may give developers more room to improve a game, but a title-specific enhancement needs to be disclosed or demonstrated before it can be treated as a real benefit.
| Question | What official sources establish as of October 13, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Is GTA 6 coming to PS5 Pro? | Rockstar confirms PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It does not separately list PS5 Pro as a launch platform; PS5 Pro-specific support is not announced in the official sources reviewed. |
| Does GTA 6 have a Pro-enhanced mode? | Not announced in the official sources reviewed. |
| Will PS5 Pro run GTA 6 at 60 FPS? | No GTA 6 frame-rate figure is stated in the official sources reviewed. |
| Will the Pro version have higher resolution, better ray tracing, or faster loading? | No GTA 6-specific resolution, ray-tracing comparison, or load-time measurement is stated in the official sources reviewed. |
| What PlayStation features are described for the game? | Sony names DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, controller-speaker effects, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and the PS5 high-speed SSD for near-instant loading. These are PlayStation feature claims, not Pro-only comparisons. |
Should you buy a PS5 Pro for GTA 6?
If you already own a PS5
There is no evidence-based reason in the official sources reviewed to upgrade solely for GTA 6. Rockstar’s “Plays Best On PlayStation 5” wording does not distinguish the base console from the Pro, and no GTA 6-specific Pro performance data has been disclosed. Reconsider when Rockstar or Sony publishes game-specific details or when post-launch comparisons are available.

If you are choosing a console now
The official information supports PS5 as a confirmed platform and reflects Sony and Rockstar’s stated preference for the PlayStation experience. Choosing a Pro may make sense if you value its broader hardware capabilities across games, but its extra value for GTA 6 remains unconfirmed. The available sources do not establish whether the game will look or run better on Pro.
If you are waiting for performance details
Look for an explicit PS5 Pro-enhanced designation and comparable, game-specific information such as resolution, frame-rate modes, image quality, ray tracing, and loading. Those details matter more to this decision than console-wide specifications. The game’s announced release is November 19, 2026, so launch-build testing and real-world comparisons were not available in the official material reviewed as of October 13.
