If you want to play Grand Theft Auto VI at launch, choose a compatible console: the official listings consulted name PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for November 19, 2026. They do not announce a PC version or PC release date. If you play only on PC and do not want to buy a console, wait for an official PC announcement rather than relying on predictions.

What platforms are confirmed for GTA 6?

As of October 13, 2026, Rockstar and the platform-holder listings consulted identify PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as the launch platforms, with a scheduled release date of November 19, 2026. PlayStation’s listing also names PS5 Pro; it does not list PS4. The official sources consulted do not list a PC platform or a PC release date. Rockstar’s platform and edition information, PlayStation’s game page, Xbox’s listing, and Take-Two’s announcement are the relevant official sources.

That is a statement about what has been announced in those listings, not proof that a PC version will never happen. No release window, PC requirements, or PC performance specifications are established by the consulted sources, so claims predicting a particular PC launch year should be treated as speculation.

The practical distinction is between a confirmed choice and a possible future one. The console listings give a platform family and a scheduled date; the PC option currently has neither an official platform confirmation nor a date. That means a launch-day decision can be made on the console information, while a PC-only player must decide whether to wait or buy compatible hardware without a confirmed PC alternative.

Choice What the official information establishes Best fit
PS5 or PS5 Pro Listed for November 19, 2026. PlayStation describes platform features including Tempest 3D Audio, SSD-enabled fast loading, DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers, and controller-speaker effects. Players who already own a listed PlayStation model, or who want the advertised DualSense and PS5 features.
Xbox Series X|S Listed for November 19, 2026. The consulted Xbox listing confirms platform availability but does not provide an equivalent feature-by-feature comparison with PlayStation. Players who already own a Series X or Series S, or prefer their existing Xbox setup.
PC No PC version or date is announced in the official listings consulted. PC requirements and comparable performance figures are not stated. PC-only players who are willing to wait for an official announcement and do not want to buy a console for launch.

The feature information is not a controlled comparison of the consoles. PlayStation’s published feature descriptions are platform-specific claims, not independent test results showing that PS5 performs better than Xbox in resolution, frame rate, loading time, or overall image quality.

There is also no listed PS4 version. If your current PlayStation is a PS4, do not assume that owning it is enough for this launch: the PlayStation game page names PS5 and PS5 Pro, not PS4. Likewise, the Xbox listing names Series X|S rather than older Xbox One systems. Check the current listing for your exact console before purchasing, especially if you are buying a game code from a third-party retailer.

Which version should you choose?

Choose a console if launch-day access matters

For someone whose priority is playing on the scheduled launch date, the listed options are PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. There is no announced PC option to select for that date. A console purchase is therefore the practical route if you do not already have compatible hardware and do not want to wait for more platform announcements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Scheduled” is important: November 19, 2026 is the date identified by the official listings and Take-Two announcement. It is reasonable to use that date for planning, but check the platform or Rockstar listing again close to purchase in case details change. No source here provides a separate launch schedule for PC.

Use the compatible console you already own

If you already own a PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S, starting with that system avoids buying another console just for this game. The sources consulted do not establish comparable GTA VI resolution or frame-rate targets across those systems, so there is no evidence-based performance ranking here. Choose based on the hardware you have, the features you value, and the platform ecosystem you already use rather than on unverified benchmark claims.

For a household that owns more than one listed console family, the available official information still does not settle a technical winner. PlayStation has published more detail about its own features, but that is not the same as proof that the PlayStation version has a particular resolution, frame rate, or visual advantage over the Xbox version. If you are choosing between systems you already own, consider which one is already part of your setup and which advertised controls or audio features you would actually use.

Wait if you are PC-only and can be patient

If you do not want to play on console, waiting is the only choice that does not require assuming a PC port will arrive. An official PC announcement could change the decision, but the consulted listings do not confirm one or say when one might happen. Avoid buying or upgrading a PC specifically for GTA VI until Rockstar publishes PC requirements; these sources establish none.

This does not mean a PC version is ruled out. It means a purchase decision based on a predicted PC port would involve an unconfirmed platform and unknown timing. If you are content to wait, monitor official Rockstar announcements and platform listings rather than relying on guessed release windows, rumored system requirements, or projected performance numbers. If you need to play on November 19, the listed consoles are the available confirmed route.

Compare total cost before buying new hardware

When you need a console, compare the complete cost where you live: the system, the game, and any other purchase necessary for your setup. The consulted sources establish the game’s announced U.S.-dollar edition prices but not current local console prices or a comparable total cost for each platform. Retail prices, taxes, and availability may differ, so verify the actual listing in your market rather than treating the edition announcement as a complete system budget.

Start with what you already own, then compare the price of a compatible system against the amount you are willing to spend to play at launch. Do not compare only the game’s price across platforms: the Standard Edition and Ultimate Edition prices do not include a new console. Nor do the consulted listings establish a complete local bundle price. A system’s availability, retailer pricing, local tax, and any region terms on a game code can affect the actual checkout total.

What PS5 features has PlayStation described?

PlayStation’s game page describes Tempest 3D Audio, SSD-enabled fast loading, DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and effects through the controller speaker. These are concrete reasons a player who already owns a PS5 may find its feature set appealing. They are not proof that the game has better image quality or runs faster on PS5 than on Xbox.

These descriptions can help you decide what kind of play experience you value, but keep their scope clear. Tempest 3D Audio and the DualSense features are PlayStation-specific descriptions. The available Xbox listing confirms Series X|S availability but does not give an equivalent technical feature-by-feature comparison. That difference in published detail should not be mistaken for evidence that Xbox lacks features, or that one version is technically superior.

PlayStation Blog made the promotional statement on June 24, 2026, that “Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19.” That wording is PlayStation’s own platform announcement, not an independent comparative assessment. The post is available at PlayStation Blog. The consulted official sources provide no equivalent technical comparison with Xbox and no independently measured GTA VI benchmarks.

For a buyer, the distinction is useful: PlayStation is promoting the way the game will use PS5 hardware, while no comparable measured results have been established for the other platforms. Treat the feature list as a reason to choose a platform if those features matter to you, not as a substitute for future side-by-side tests.

How much do the editions cost, and what do you get physically?

Take-Two’s 2026 announcement lists a Standard Edition at $79.99 and an Ultimate Edition at $99.99. These are the announced prices in U.S. dollars; check the listing for your country and chosen platform for local pricing, taxes, availability, and the exact edition details. The announcement describes GTA VI as a single-player experience and schedules its launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for November 19, 2026. Read Take-Two’s announcement.

Edition or format Information established What to verify before purchase
Standard Edition $79.99 in Take-Two’s 2026 announcement. Local price, platform, edition contents, and retailer availability.
Ultimate Edition $99.99 in Take-Two’s 2026 announcement. Local price and the exact included content in the retailer’s current listing.
Physical package Rockstar says the box contains a download code and no disc. That the code is valid in your country and for the account region you use on your platform.

The $20 difference between the announced U.S. prices is the difference between the two listed edition prices, not a complete comparison of what every buyer will pay in every region. Take-Two’s announcement identifies the prices, but check the seller’s current page for the edition contents and local amount. Do not infer unlisted bonuses or extras from the word “Ultimate.”

Do not assume that buying a boxed copy means you receive a disc you can lend, resell, or use without redeeming a code. Rockstar says the physical version is a box with a download code and no disc. If you specifically want a disc, this format does not meet that expectation. A download-code package also depends on the code being redeemable on the right platform and in the relevant region, so verify those details before buying, particularly when purchasing across borders or from a retailer outside your account’s country.

Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the country associated with your platform account to avoid activation problems. Check the local retailer’s listing and Rockstar’s edition and version guidance before ordering a physical-code package. The box itself should not be treated as proof of a region-compatible code; confirm the stated territory and platform in the product details.

A practical decision process

  1. Decide whether the scheduled launch matters. The announced date is November 19, 2026, for the listed console platforms. The official listings consulted do not announce PC availability. If launch timing is essential, choose among the confirmed consoles rather than planning around an unconfirmed PC release.
  2. Check your existing hardware. The listed families are PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. PlayStation’s page does not list PS4. Xbox’s listing is for Series X|S. Identify the exact system you own rather than assuming older hardware in the same brand family will run the game.
  3. Choose your platform based on your own setup. Consider the console you already own and, for PS5 owners, whether PlayStation’s described audio, loading, and DualSense features matter to you. There is no established independent performance comparison to use as a tie-breaker. Avoid basing the choice on unsupported claims about resolution or frame rates.
  4. If you need to buy a console, calculate the local total. Check console availability and price, local game pricing, and any applicable taxes. The announced edition prices alone do not establish the cost of getting set up in your region. Compare a complete purchase in your market, not just the game price.
  5. Check the edition and format carefully. Confirm the edition contents and, for a boxed copy, remember that Rockstar describes it as a download-code box rather than a disc. Verify platform and region compatibility before paying.
  6. If you want PC, wait for official details. Do not treat a predicted date or guessed hardware requirement as confirmed. Reassess once Rockstar announces a PC version, date, and requirements. Until then, there is no official basis for buying PC parts specifically for this game.

What is not established yet

  • A PC version, a PC release date, or minimum and recommended PC specifications.
  • Comparable GTA VI resolution, frame-rate, loading-time, or image-quality measurements for PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
  • A technical feature-by-feature comparison from the consulted official sources; the published PlayStation feature descriptions do not fill that gap.
  • Current console prices in each country or the final local cost of buying a system and game together.
  • Whether any future PC release, if announced, would have the same timing or edition details as the console launch.

Those gaps matter because they limit what can responsibly guide a buying decision today. There is enough confirmed information to choose between waiting and playing on a listed console at launch, but not enough to rank the platforms by GTA VI performance or to plan a PC build for it. Revisit the official platform listings when you are ready to buy, and make the decision from confirmed details rather than a forecast.

Which console will GTA 6 be on at launch?

The official listings name PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for November 19, 2026. PlayStation’s page also names PS5 Pro. It does not list PS4, and the Xbox listing identifies Series X|S.

Should I buy a console or wait for the PC version?

If playing on the scheduled launch date matters, a listed PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S is the confirmed route. If you are PC-only and can wait, hold off on a console purchase and watch for an official PC announcement rather than relying on predicted timing.

Does GTA 6 run better on PS5 than Xbox?

The official information consulted does not provide comparable GTA VI frame rates, resolutions, loading tests, or image-quality measurements. PlayStation has described PS5-specific audio, SSD, and DualSense features, but those descriptions are not independent evidence that its version performs better than Xbox.

How much does GTA 6 cost?

Take-Two’s 2026 announcement lists the Standard Edition at $79.99 and Ultimate Edition at $99.99 in U.S. dollars. Check your local retailer for regional pricing, taxes, availability, and the exact edition contents.

Does the physical GTA 6 edition include a disc?

Rockstar says the physical package is a box containing a download code, with no disc. Confirm that the code is for your platform and compatible with your account’s region; Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the country associated with your platform account.

The Bottom Line

For launch day, choose a compatible PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S—especially if you already own one. The announced date is November 19, 2026, and there is no PC version or date in the official listings consulted. If you are PC-only and can wait, wait for Rockstar to announce actual PC details. Compare local system and game costs, and remember that Rockstar’s boxed physical version contains a download code, not a disc.
