As of October 9, 2026, Rockstar’s official pages list Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a November 19, 2026 release date. Treat a circulating clip, screenshot, map, platform claim, or retailer listing as unverified unless Rockstar or another identified primary authority confirms that exact claim. A realistic appearance, watermark, takedown, or viral repost is not proof.
Start with what Rockstar has actually confirmed
Use Rockstar’s GTA VI page and its official media library as the first-party baseline. When checked on October 9, 2026, the game page listed a November 19, 2026 release date and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The media library listed Trailer 1, Trailer 2, and Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, along with official clips, screenshots, artwork, wallpapers, and downloads.

These details can change. Check the pages again before relying on them, and match the exact claim to the relevant official announcement or asset. The absence of a claim from a page you checked is not, by itself, proof that the claim is false.
Label claims by their evidence
- Confirmed: Rockstar or another identified primary authority explicitly states the fact or publishes the asset.
- Reported: A named outlet reports it. Attribute the report and its date; do not present it as Rockstar confirmation.
- Unverified or rumor: The available primary-source record does not establish the claim. This label does not prove the claim false.
- Contradicted: A current primary source directly conflicts with the claim. Say what the source states and when you checked it.
How to check an alleged leak
- Find the earliest post you can. Record who posted the material first, when it appeared, and the exact wording of the claim. A repost or reaction thread may not identify the original source.
- Identify what the post says the material is. Is it alleged gameplay, a map, a screenshot, a trailer, or a claim about release plans? A clip cannot automatically authenticate a separate claim attached to it.
- Compare the original material with official material. Look for the exact video, image, or statement on Rockstar’s official pages rather than comparing cropped reposts or summaries.
- Check whether the authority actually confirmed it. If the exact material or claim is not confirmed on an appropriate official channel, describe it as unverified—not as a leak proven real or fake.
- Keep the attribution and date attached. If a news outlet reports a development, name the outlet and date, and distinguish its reporting from a first-party announcement.
Virality, takedowns, watermarks, apparent game detail, and social consensus can tell you something about how material is circulating. None of them independently authenticates it.

What the August 2026 leak coverage establishes
Axios reported on August 21, 2026, that alleged gameplay and map material was circulating online and that Rockstar had not officially confirmed the footage at the time of its report. The story also described public skepticism and posts removed after copyright claims. That dated account does not authenticate or disprove every clip, and a takedown alone does not establish that a particular video is genuine. Read Axios’s report.
GamesRadar’s August 2026 coverage also described fake clips circulating alongside alleged leaks and explained why realistic-looking footage can mislead. It discussed apparent visual tells but did not establish a reliable appearance-only test. Do not treat a watermark, HUD detail, camera movement, spelling, or any other single visual cue as proof. Is there an official third trailer?
The Rockstar media library checked on October 9, 2026 listed Trailer 1, Trailer 2, and Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. Do not call another video an official trailer unless Rockstar’s official channels identify it that way. Check the media library for updates.

Rockstar’s game page listed PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 9, 2026. That confirms the platforms listed there; it does not establish a PC or Nintendo Switch 2 release. Rockstar Support’s article, last updated August 18, 2026, lists Standard and Ultimate editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It says the physical version is a box containing a download code, not a disc. Code redemption can depend on the region associated with the platform account, so consult the full Rockstar Support article for the relevant region and edition details.

In an October 2026 report, GamesRadar quoted Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball saying GTA VI would launch on Xbox on November 19 but would not stream exclusively or to PC. This is a statement attributed to Ball in that outlet’s report, not a replacement for Rockstar’s official platform announcement.
