Version 17 is a fan-built reconstruction of GTA 6’s Leonida, not an official Rockstar map release. The update expands the community map with newly identified places, more precise district naming, additional inland detail and a dedicated interiors layer. Its labels are useful for organizing trailer and screenshot evidence, but they remain provisional until the game ships.

What Version 17 represents

The project combines official trailers and screenshots with community analysis. A contemporaneous r/GTA6 post describes the Version 17 convention that blue buildings represent structures believed to have an interior. That convention is an interpretation by the mapping community, not a published Rockstar rule.

Several map projects contribute to the picture. Leonida Explorer’s change log uses the GTADB community dataset (licensed CC BY 4.0), while GTAMI presents a YANIS V16 basemap marked “WIP Official media + community positions.” GTAMI also warns that its pins are approximate and have not been checked against a released game. Those qualifications matter because GTA 6 is still unreleased.

What changed in the Version 17 dataset

Leonida Explorer’s October 13, 2026 update provides the clearest dated measurement of the expansion:

Measure Version 17 update evidence
Mapped points 3,149 points in the current community dataset
New places 206 added places
District identification 72 names resolved to exact districts
Repositioning Hundreds of existing pins moved to better locations
Dataset activity The mapping dataset moved forward 21 commits

These figures describe the community database, not an official Rockstar location count. The same change log separates community structures from finds taken from trailers and screenshots. Pins based on leaks can be hidden by default and are labeled separately, allowing readers to distinguish lower-confidence claims from visible official media.

Which regions and areas are covered?

PC Gamer’s guide, updated August 18, 2026, identifies six known regions in the fan reconstruction:

Rank #2
Grand Theft Auto V - PC
  • Will take full advantage of the power of new generation systems and PC to deliver across-the-board enhancements including increased resolution and graphical detail, denser traffic, greater draw distances, upgraded AI, new wildlife, and advanced weather and damage effects for the ultimate open world experience.
  • The biggest, most dynamic and most diverse open world ever created and now packed with layers of new detail.
  • Grand Theft Auto V blends storytelling and gameplay in new ways as players repeatedly jump in and out of the lives of the game’s three lead characters, playing all sides of the game’s interwoven story.
  • Includes Grand Theft Auto Online, the ever-evolving Grand Theft Auto universe.
  • All new content and gameplay created and released since the launch of Grand Theft Auto Online including new Jobs, an arsenal of new weapons, scores of new vehicles, new properties and player customizations
Region What the map coverage means
Vice City The principal urban area represented in official media and community reconstruction.
Mount Kalaga National Park A named region included in the wider Leonida layout.
Grassrivers A separate known region in the community geography.
Leonida Keys The island and coastal area identified by the mapping guides.
Ambrosia One of the named regions outside the central city.
Port Gellhorn A distinct region included in the known map coverage.

WikiGTAVI’s October 15, 2026 update says Version 17 was adding an interiors layer while filling in previously less-detailed inland areas. No cited source supplies a complete itemized list of every new building, so individual pins should be treated as evidence-ranked observations rather than a definitive changelog.

How many interiors are shown?

WikiGTAVI counts about 296 confirmed interiors in its community analysis. That is a community tally, not a Rockstar statistic. Rockstar has only said that the number of enterable interiors is “in the hundreds” and has not published an exact total.

Rank #3
Grand Theft Auto VI - Xbox Series X|S (Code in Box, Delivers 11/12/26, Playable 11/19/26)
  • This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19.
  • Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
  • Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.

The interiors examples described by the guide include apartments, a nightclub, a strip club, a diner, airport spaces, gas stations and vehicle garages. They are examples visible in footage or inferred through map analysis, not a complete Version 17 inventory.

What do blue and grey buildings mean?

In the community convention, a blue building indicates a known or suspected interior, while a grey building has no known interior identified by the project. On maps that provide a 3D view, approaching a blue building can expose a floor-plan representation. That visualization helps mapmakers record likely rooms and entrances; it does not prove that the final game will let players enter the structure.

Rank #4
Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition (PS4)
  • Grand Theft Auto III: It all starts in Liberty City
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City: Welcome to the 1980s
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: Five years ago, Carl 'CJ' Johnson escaped the haze of Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs, and corruption.

A blue marker can therefore mean different things depending on its evidence label: an interior shown in official footage, one inferred from screenshots and architectural clues, or one proposed by the community. The color alone is not an access guarantee.

How to read a Version 17 pin safely

  1. Open the Version 17 map and enable the interiors layer if the project provides separate layer controls.
  2. Check whether the structure is blue (interior identified) or grey (no known interior), then open the pin’s notes.
  3. Look for the evidence category: official trailer or screenshot, community identification, or leak-derived claim.
  4. Use the 3D view and floor-plan overlay as a spatial reference, not as confirmation of a gameplay mechanic.
  5. For leak-derived pins, verify that the map has not hidden them by default and keep them separate from official-media findings.

How reliable is the map?

Evidence label What it establishes What it does not establish
Official media A location or interior is visible in Rockstar-released footage or images. Its final name, exact position or full access rules.
Community identification Multiple analysts have matched architecture, landmarks or geography. That the interpretation is error-free or final.
Leak-derived claim A reported location exists in the project’s separately labeled leak data. That Rockstar will ship it or that the leak is authentic.

Community maps can change as contributors correct coordinates and add new media. GTAMI explicitly calls its map a work in progress, and the r/GTA6 discussion also cautions that fan mapping is not guaranteed to be perfectly accurate.

What Version 17 cannot answer yet

  • There is no authoritative, itemized Rockstar changelog naming every Version 17 building or interior.
  • The approximately 296-interior count can rise or fall as the community changes its criteria.
  • Rockstar has not published an exact enterable-interior total beyond saying it is in the hundreds.
  • Neither blue coloring nor a community floor plan guarantees access in the released game.
  • Leak-based pins and unverified coordinates should not be presented as confirmed GTA 6 content.

For now, Version 17 is best used as an organized evidence map: it shows where the community believes places and interiors are located, identifies the source quality behind each claim, and records changes as new information appears. It does not replace Rockstar’s eventual in-game map or a final list of enterable buildings.
