As of October 11, 2026, Amazon US was reported to show the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S boxed pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI as unavailable. These are “physical” editions because the game is sold in a box—not because the box contains a disc. Rockstar says it contains a code for a digital download. The reported Amazon status is a dated snapshot, not proof that copies are gone everywhere or that Amazon will not restock.
What “physical” means for GTA 6
Rockstar says the boxed version of Grand Theft Auto VI contains a code that can be redeemed for a digital download; no disc is included. That makes it a retail box with a digital game code, rather than a disc-based copy. Rockstar Support states: “The physical version of GTAVI will contain a code that can be redeemed for the digital download of the game. A disc will not be included in the box.” Rockstar Support’s platform and version details also describe a physical code-in-box version.

The practical distinction is the packaging. A box may suit someone who wants a boxed item to give or display, but the game itself is delivered digitally after redeeming its code. Do not expect a disc or the offline disc-based ownership associated with a conventional physical game.

Why Amazon’s GTA 6 boxed listings appeared unavailable
RockstarINTEL and VICE reported on October 12, 2026, that Amazon US showed the boxed PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions as unavailable; the reporting described the status as of October 11 or at report time. RockstarINTEL quoted an Amazon listing message saying the items were currently unavailable and Amazon did not know when or if they would return.

That evidence establishes only what the US listings showed at that point. It does not establish how many copies were allocated, why the listings became unavailable, whether the editions sold through, or whether Amazon will restock them. It also says nothing about digital availability or boxed stock at every retailer. Check the live listing for the correct console version, seller, price, and availability before ordering.
GTA 6 release and boxed-version dates
Rockstar’s June 24, 2026 announcement schedules Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player experience for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with launch on November 19, 2026. Rockstar says digital preloads begin November 12 and that the boxed version, containing a download code, will be available starting November 12 to support preloading. November 12 is the stated boxed-version availability and preload date—not the announced play date.

Amazon US was the subject of the dated unavailability reports, not a confirmed ongoing stock check. Best Buy also has a PS5 code-in-box product listing that identifies delivery on November 12, 2026, and playability on November 19, 2026. That listing shows another retailer listing exists; its stock status is not established here. Verify the console variant, seller, delivery terms, price, and live availability directly with any retailer.
